00:00More about the weather, the application of AI technology to work and industry yields faster and better results.
00:06Weather forecasting is no different as the scientists and meteorologists of Pagasa see a huge clash in analytics time
00:14and calibrated responses cut substantially.
00:17Philippine Information Agency Davao Region correspondent Rudolf Alama has this report.
00:24An artificial intelligence assisted weather forecasting system currently being developed in the country
00:29will help many Filipinos in public and private sectors who are dependent on accurate weather forecasting.
00:35We teamed up with Acto Incorporated to use artificial intelligence to really do big data analytics
00:42and make the analytics faster instead of every 3 hours, every 15 minutes.
00:48According to Secretary Suli Dum, they could provide local government units more detailed weather related information
00:54which could enable them to calibrate the response.
00:57The science and technology secretary added that with the adoption of the AI weather forecasting,
01:02the Philippines is the first ASEAN country to do so.
01:05The project I initiated with Acto Incorporated is just starting
01:09because we will be the first country, at least in ASEAN, to really be using all of this
01:16because compared to many other countries in ASEAN, we have lots of tropical cyclones,
01:22other weather systems compared to many other countries, and we're an archipelago.
01:27The project, which is an engagement of DOSC Advanced Science Technology Institute, is a 2-year program.
01:33Upon the development of a working prototype, Secretary Suli Dum says it will benefit many industries
01:38aside from being just used for disaster mitigation and response.
01:42In many other industries that can be assisted, for example,
01:45if you're an event coordinator and you want to schedule a garden wedding, so you can have more specific data.
01:56If you are organizing a golf tournament, you can also have the specific data.
02:02If you're in agriculture, you don't need to irrigate if there's a forecast of rain 10 days from now.
02:08Also, you can use it for many things.
02:11From PIA Davao Region, Rudolf Alama for Balitang Pambansa.
