00:00The social security organisation is facing scrutiny over the delayed implementation of
00:06a no-fault insurance scheme designed to cover injuries sustained by workers outside their
00:12employment.
00:13Sources told FMT that the scheme Kemalangan Bukan Berpunca Dari Pekerjaan, reputed to
00:18be a milestone achievement in the country's social security system, was approved by the
00:23Cabinet in March.
00:25However, Sokso has yet to enact the scheme, leaving thousands unprotected in 2024.
00:32The delay has sparked frustration among social security advocates, particularly as 3,098
00:38injured workers this year did not qualify for compensation under Sokso's employment
00:42injury scheme.
00:44A leading workers' rights advocate said the scheme would have offered financial relief
00:48and medical access to affected workers, but with each day of inaction, Sokso puts these
00:53injured workers at risk of destitution.
00:59Economic and labour policy analysts said inaction does more than strain individuals financially,
01:05with one analyst saying it could affect national productivity and public health costs, as injured
01:10workers without resources struggle to return to the workforce.
01:14She said the SKBBK is an important step forward for Malaysian workers' rights, but the onus
01:20is on Sokso to deliver on this promise by turning policy into practice.
