00:00The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has received a report about a businessman suspected
00:06of corruption related to a mineral mining project in Sabah.
00:11MACC said preliminary investigations revealed links between several state assemblymen and
00:16the businessman, leading to five of them being summoned for statements.
00:20MACC has urged the public to refrain from speculating and allow a thorough investigation.
00:27Last Tuesday, FMT quoted a source as saying that a former senior officer of a state mining
00:31company in Sabah is alleged to have misused his position through a long-standing relationship
00:37with a broker from peninsular Malaysia.
00:40The broker allegedly facilitated mineral exploration companies in obtaining prospecting licenses
00:45corruptly across various states.
00:47The source said the collusion led Sabah's Chief Minister Hajiji North to not renew the
00:51officer's contract, prompting alleged intimidation tactics by the officer and the broker.
00:57Yesterday, MACC took statements from Sabah's Deputy Chief Minister Shahel Miyahya, Kemabung
01:02Assemblyman Rubin Balang, and Tempaso Assemblyman Arsad Bistari over the corruption allegations,
01:08with Hajiji expressing his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
