00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin. A cash-strapped Derbyshire Council is set
00:05to approve its multi-million pound plans for a solar farm next to a nature reserve. Derbyshire
00:10County Council, which faces a budget black hole of £40m and an overspend of £20m, is
00:16now set to approve plans for a 25-acre solar farm next to the Williamthorpe Nature Reserve
00:21between Chesterfield and Bolsover. The plan would see 14,000 solar panels installed on
00:27two agricultural fields, historically a former colliery site, to the east of the nature reserve
00:32between Homewood and the A617. It comes as the Council is approving plans to close numerous
00:38care homes, children's centres and day centres, cutting grants to voluntary groups and charities
00:43along with more budget cutbacks. Objectors claim that the solar farm will impact the
00:48surrounding landscape and its tranquillity, see the loss of farmland needed for food production
00:53and say that brownfield sites should be developed first. They also argue that the scheme might
00:58damage the neighbouring nature reserve and associated wildlife and ecology.
01:04Award-winning Derbyshire distillery White Peak is winding the clock back for its final
