00:08London has confirmed. It's hoped that it will improve passenger safety, particularly
00:13for women and girls, enabling them to travel with confidence 24 hours a day.
00:19The technology will be trialled for 12 months at locations with high footfall, quiet areas,
00:24high crime spots and places where people have reported feeling unsafe.
00:29The Metropolitan Police will be able to access live footage from the cameras which will help
00:33officers prevent and detect crime. The cameras, which are integrated into the
00:38shelters themselves, will retain recordings for 31 days to support police investigations.
00:45They were first trialled at five bus shelters in the capital in March, following the introduction
00:50of night patrol officers to reassure people travelling on the network.
