00:00Where I am in Penrith, it's forecast to reach 39 and above and could even tickle at 40 degrees
00:07at the Mercury.
00:08Similarly, in neighbouring Richmond in the north-west of Sydney, so these are obviously
00:13very high temperatures and it's not just that they're high, it's that they're so much higher
00:17than the typical maximums you'd expect to see for around this time of the year in September
00:22in this part of the country, 12 degrees in fact, they are higher than the averages.
00:26Now, looking at other methods as well to keep cool, of course, plenty of water if you are
00:31travelling around the city today, whether that's via transport or even in cars, the
00:37obvious warnings around outdoor work as well to find shade as often as possible.
00:43Indeed, many companies and public government services also have heat policies in place
00:48to guard against that.
00:49Speaking to just a few people this morning, we've heard that people aren't just concerned
00:54about themselves but also their community here in Penrith.
00:57Oh, a few homeless people around here, mate, yeah, yeah, so you do what you can but there's
01:04not much you can do really.
01:05As I say, I don't carry water with me, I've got it in my truck.
01:08Yeah, well, it's too hot, yeah, but in the night time it's go down, yeah, like 23 today
01:16maybe but in the daytime it's 40, it's too hot, man.
01:21I'm glad it's finally arrived.
01:23I am over wet winters and summers and I'd just like to see the sunshine again.
01:31Well for about Thursday, this heat wave will dissipate depending on where you are along
01:35the east coast of New South Wales because while I'm in Sydney, it's not just affecting
01:40here, it's affecting a whole range of towns right up and down the coastline from the northern
01:44rivers near the Queensland borders right down to Eden on the far south coast of New South
01:50Wales.
01:51When it does dissipate, we're expecting some pretty significant storms.
01:55Some may even become severe depending on how the weather interacts with this heat as well
02:01as rainfall and that'll persist right through to the weekend.
02:05We've got falls forecast of 25 millimetres on Friday and Saturday here in Penrith but
02:11they really can vary quite a degree depending on where you are along the state but one thing
02:16is predicted as well as humidity so while the extreme heat might drop off, people can
02:22still expect fairly muggy conditions at least in the greater Sydney area.
