00:00The searing summer sun is certainly in Sydney and around the state of New South Wales, particularly
00:08hot conditions in the west of Sydney's region. You're looking at places like Penrith and
00:13Parramatta in that central west and then out to the greater west corridor of Penrith where
00:18we're going to see temperatures all the way from the mid-30s right up to the high 30s.
00:22Penrith forecast to reach 39 degrees later this afternoon, Parramatta forecast of 36
00:28a little earlier in the day. The good news is there is a southerly change coming that
00:33should bring cooling conditions, however we've spoken to some people here in Cronulla where
00:38temperatures are now exceeding 30 degrees, just how they are handling the heat.
00:43Heating, go to the water, swim between the flags, put some sunscreen on, put some protective
00:49gear so you don't get too burnt and yeah, swim in the water, you'll be alright.
00:54Accept it, what can you do?
00:56Well, we're going to go back before it gets too hot, it's already too hot for us.
01:02Beyond the greater Sydney area where heatwave conditions have passed, there are still heatwave
01:06warnings in place for the south coast, the Riverina and southern tablelands of New South
01:11Wales in regions like Batemans Bay, Eden and Bombardier as they contend with hot conditions.
01:17The advice for people is to find cool spots if they can't in their home, places that might
01:22have air conditioning and fanning facilities like community centres, libraries and some
01:26major shopping centres as well, otherwise people of course can go to the beach as we're
01:31seeing some people do here.
01:33Of course, these warnings come with particular risks for those with health conditions, women
01:38who are pregnant and or breastfeeding as well. Those warnings need to be particularly heated
01:43and people encouraged to check in on those in their community and in their social circles
01:48who they know who could be particularly adversely affected by these hot conditions.
01:52The next update from the Bureau of Meteorology comes around 3pm local time here where it's
01:57hoped that southerly change will mean an end to the heatwave and overall cooler conditions
02:02for most of New South Wales.
