00:00:00What is going on everyone welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat
00:00:28Podcast here on the CLNS media network presented by our wonderful friends over at prize picks and game time
00:00:35Back to back episodes feels like we're back in training camp all of a sudden
00:00:39But it is Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth as promised. We'd have a Q&A for you guys today
00:00:47We'll turn it over to the chat anything you guys want to talk about
00:00:52free agency draft
00:00:54Coaching staff players all on the table start putting some stuff in the chat. We'll get to it
00:01:00We'll get to some Colts talk at the end
00:01:02I know it's early in the week
00:01:04But we'll start to get into that matchup
00:01:06and we also have some news that just came in with within the last hour that we will start with and
00:01:12That is the Patriots releasing
00:01:14Starting left guard Michael Jordan. He's played just under 90% of their snaps this season
00:01:21He's started 11 of 12 games at left guard
00:01:24But as we've talked about that level of play has kind of fallen off over the last month or so, you know
00:01:30He struggled picking up, you know line games. You saw that in Miami all season long
00:01:36Not great movement in the run game
00:01:38So the play has been declining and now it gets to the point where they released Michael Jordan
00:01:43They did claim another guard in the process Lester Cotton from the Dolphins
00:01:48Believe he was a Vegas for a little bit and he was also went to Alabama
00:01:52So a left guard out and Michael Jordan a left guard in in Lester Cotton Barth. We'll see another
00:01:58We have to see another starting five this week. So what are your what are your thoughts on the move to?
00:02:04Release Michael Jordan there. So I said I wanted to see continuity
00:02:09I wanted to see that same group until they gave you a reason where you couldn't put him back out there and last week was
00:02:13That reason and we talked about this yesterday Drake May you can't put him behind a unit like that
00:02:17You're gonna develop bad habits. The tackles were their own problem. I don't know that there's better tackle options out there
00:02:23Look the best-case scenario for Michael Jordan who most people didn't have making the team
00:02:27I remember Evan got annoyed with me that I had him on my list of like five
00:02:31Patriots who could surprise you going into training camp and make the roster look he started 11 games
00:02:35The bet the realistic best-case scenario for Michael Jordan was always that he would give you a capable bridge
00:02:41Until Cole Strange came back that was always the realistic best-case scenario
00:02:46Almost got there almost got there. He fell off last like three weeks, but all in all I think if you told me
00:02:54Back in July that this is they were gonna get 11 starts out of him and like seven of them. We're gonna be
00:03:00Serviceable I would say great
00:03:02Awesome for where they were
00:03:04You know now I would I've cut him. I don't know. I guess they needed the roster spot
00:03:09I didn't use that
00:03:11Sunday still could be a serviceable backup, but I get it
00:03:14I get why they're moving on from him my big takeaway surprise surprise Brian and I tweeted some stuff out of people want to follow
00:03:21along here is
00:03:22This is yet another example that they did not do enough to address the offensive line from the start of the season
00:03:30They had and shout out to your guys at Pat's pulpit because you were the only ones that had like a running tally of the
00:03:36Roster easily available from like during training camp. So at roster cuts
00:03:42But going into roster cuts they had 15
00:03:47Linemen on the active roster. I'm not counting Cole strange. He didn't practice with them. He wasn't on the field this summer
00:03:52They had 15 linemen on the active roster. I can read them all off if you want
00:03:56I don't know if there's any names to stand out stand out on there to you
00:03:59But people can go find it real Alex Barth on social they have 15 linemen on their roster at roster cuts
00:04:05Four of those players are left on the active roster
00:04:09That is a turnover rate of over 66 percent
00:04:13That's over two-thirds, but Darian Lowe Michael and when you laid in Robinson and city, so now to be fair
00:04:20Kane Wallace, oh, you know what to make it a nice easy number. I'll count Kane Wallace since it sounds like he'll be back soon
00:04:26I'll give him five of 15. That's still a turnover rate of two-thirds and then they've Liam for Nadell on the practice squad
00:04:34That tells me that they knew
00:04:36It wasn't enough because almost immediately after cuts outside of for Nadell. How many of those linemen?
00:04:42Kalindeesh Zuri Henry
00:04:44Antonio Maffei, how many of these guys did we think we're gonna stick around on the practice squad?
00:04:48They didn't bother with any of them
00:04:49They went out and raided other teams cuts for guys like to Monterey Jacobs and guys like Caleb Jones
00:04:56You saw that
00:04:58And it continues this is a guy that was one of their most experienced linemen in camp in terms of games started
00:05:04Most of it. Most of the linemen didn't have 10 games played in the NFL. It's not fine
00:05:09So to have him start 11 games and move on like this
00:05:14Like they know they didn't do enough because they're still
00:05:17here two days shy of Thanksgiving
00:05:21Upgrading a starter
00:05:23so that was my initial takeaway and I'm not saying that like
00:05:27Cutting Michael Jordan is
00:05:31Be all end all of it like I you guys know where I've been on the offensive line
00:05:34But this is just another example of like if you felt you had a good group
00:05:39You wouldn't be making a move like this in November
00:05:41So for all the talk on the external about they didn't do enough and I know some people will say it's not as bad
00:05:47As it looks I think their moves reflect that they don't feel like they had a good enough group coming into the season
00:05:55Yep, I mean it sums it up
00:05:57You have a guy that started 11 games for you and you just you don't even put him on the bench
00:06:03You just outright cut him right like it's not the first time they've done this. They did this with Nick Leverett
00:06:07I know like that just encapsulates how this offensive line group has gone this year
00:06:13And again, I think the level of play has warranted him moving out of the starting lineup
00:06:18But how often do you see a team just be able to flat-out cut someone who's started 11 out of 12 games again?
00:06:25I'm was played 90% of your offensive snaps like that. That is pretty rare
00:06:30I would say and as you just said, this is not the first time they've done this, you know, Nick Leverett
00:06:34They cut a few guys who have played a decent amount of snaps for them as they keep turning this roster over
00:06:40So now I guess the question is
00:06:43What's the offensive line looking like against the Colts this week?
00:06:47It seemed like maybe that would be Cole strangers spot, but then they claimed Lester cotton
00:06:52So they would need to open up another roster spot. Now. They have a couple guards that they've been, you know, bringing in
00:06:58Who was the guy from Oklahoma Tyrese the Tyrese Robinson?
00:07:03That's right the Tyree. It's Tyrese. I want to say Robinson. I should know that apologies, but they have some guards on the guys
00:07:10Keep coming in and out
00:07:12It's tough to tough to track and stay
00:07:15Sincere Haynes worth for a little bit and like yeah, it's
00:07:19Edith Smith. It is Tyrese Robinson. He's Robinson. Okay, so
00:07:23They have Tyrese Robinson
00:07:25They just claimed Lester cotton. So maybe he becomes expandable, you know, let's see
00:07:30This Smith has been the backup center maybe with Cole strange coming back. He becomes expandable
00:07:35Late in Robinson. He's been working in practice at left guard of late
00:07:40I know we've only seen him at right guard, but he started to take some reps on the left side
00:07:44So maybe he becomes an option
00:07:45But now it's it's like that Titans game where we're gonna throw him in and it's gonna be against the Forrest Buckner and this Colts
00:07:51Defensive line that that's you know challenging along the interior. So they might have some options there, but
00:07:58You might be cutting in and out. But what is your kind of your camera?
00:08:03I
00:08:04Can hear you but your camera is
00:08:12But uh, what do you think this interior especially the left guard spot now is going to look like against the Colts this weekend
00:08:20Yeah, well look you talk about the late Robson going up against the Forrest Buckner and I certainly don't feel great about that
00:08:27Remember last time Cole strange faced the Forrest Buckner. That's not great
00:08:31Exactly encouraging either and that's not to say that Chris kept Michael Jordan. They should have kept Michael Jordan for this game
00:08:36I think it's gonna be strange. That just makes the most sense
00:08:40Late Robinson would make me nervous
00:08:42Now Cole strange, I guess would too. I I don't know that there's a great answer
00:08:46I'm not I'm probably not going to
00:08:49Lucita Smith or Tyrese Robinson or one of these guys. It's very new
00:08:52I'm going with the guy that's been here, but I I'd really rather it be Cole strange
00:08:57Yeah, and I don't think you're probably not throwing Lester Cotton out there
00:09:03Right away. He's only really played meaningful snaps two games this year and it was coming in week two and week ten
00:09:10So you probably don't want to him throw him right in there
00:09:12You could say city so but they might need him at right tackle because Caden Wallace isn't ready
00:09:17So unless they want to put the Montre Jacobs back in there and move city. So to left guard
00:09:23We'll kind of have to they also I just they don't seem to think city like they haven't really gone with city
00:09:28so so yeah, but
00:09:31It was just a walkthrough for them today. So
00:09:34We didn't really get a good look at how they might align this along the offensive line
00:09:39Maybe we get a better understanding of it tomorrow, but they have a spot now that they have to fill
00:09:44At that left guard spot. So we'll see what happens there. So that was the news within the last hour
00:09:50We also had some news this morning we talked about it yesterday that Jabril Peppers got reinstated off the NFL
00:09:57Commissioners exempt list. He was in the building this morning
00:10:00He was present for the media portion of that walkthrough practice while we were out there
00:10:06Just you know, we're about the out there for 10 minutes during stretch and he was there
00:10:10He wouldn't speak on the legal situation as it's still ongoing
00:10:15But he said he's happy to be back
00:10:17He indicated that he did have a conversation with Robert Kraft about it
00:10:20And you know as for the return to the field, he kind of said, you know, just taking it day by day
00:10:25He mentioned he was pretty banged up after the 49ers game, which was you know, six weeks ago
00:10:30So but he's probably gonna have to work back into football shape a little bit, too
00:10:34So he was back in the building any thoughts on the entire Jabril Peppers situation now that you know
00:10:42We heard from Gerard Mayo and we heard from Peppers earlier today
00:10:45Yeah
00:10:45I mean look the Patriots have for a long time going back to Christian Peter have had a zero tolerance policy on
00:10:52issues of domestic assault so for
00:10:56him to be back in the building is
00:10:58Pretty significant either they feel incredibly confident that
00:11:03And he's kind of said in court that he was set up and he claims that video evidence of this
00:11:07I know there's been some talk about an extortion
00:11:09situation
00:11:10They either have very clear evidence of that or this is a massive tonal shift from from ownership
00:11:15I would lean towards the former and I don't know
00:11:18I don't know the evidence but just knowing the way they've handled these things in the past
00:11:21and the fact that he talked to craft and that craft had said in an interview on the breakfast club last month if what is
00:11:26Reported is true. He's gone. That's
00:11:29Gonna look pretty bad on craft if this it does end up being true and Peppers is back with the team as we're playing in games
00:11:38neither Mayo nor Peppers
00:11:40Sounded super encouraged today when asked about him playing
00:11:44He mentioned that he's still dealing with some injuries and remember he was banged up. That was
00:11:49What a week or two removed from that hip injury where he had to go find the pool in the hotel across the street
00:11:53He was on the injury report with an ankle injury going into that Niners game the last when he played and then you know
00:11:59I he I'm sure
00:12:01Football has not been on the forefront of his mind for the last month and a half as he's had a lot of life issues
00:12:08So, you know
00:12:09What kind of shape is he and what kind of conditioning is he in I'm not expecting him to play this week
00:12:13You know, then you have the by so that essentially gives him what two weeks three weeks to get in shape really
00:12:17I would assume we see him after the by but based on the way everybody talked today
00:12:22I'd be surprised we played this week. They could use them. They need them
00:12:25They certainly need them, but I just I wonder if he's physically ready to play this week
00:12:29Yeah, I feel like what the by come in where it's at next week
00:12:33It just makes sense to kind of you know
00:12:36Give him this week to work back into things and then you have the by week and then the week after that of practice
00:12:41And maybe see him for that
00:12:44Cardinals Cardinals after the by right Cardinals
00:12:49Cardinal yeah, so maybe see him after the by week. So
00:12:54But yeah, if they're letting him back in the building, you know
00:12:57I think Mayo said when it first happened that they were gonna kind of do their own internal investigation
00:13:01So they must feel pretty good about whatever they found or uncovered or whatever evidence pepper said
00:13:07He had in order to let him back in the building because again, they have been pretty no tolerance with those domestic abuse issues
00:13:14In the past so peppers in the building now. We'll kind of see
00:13:19how he progresses throughout the week and
00:13:22When he can return to the game field for the Patriots there. So those were the two newsworthy items of the day

00:14:49Let's go to the chat. Let's see what we got
00:14:53Going back up to the top
00:14:56Let's start off with some draft talk
00:14:58Who do you want the first pick? I'm guessing this will be Patriots or maybe we can go a whole whole draft
00:15:05But who do you think who do you want the first pick to be and who do you think it will actually be right now?
00:15:10What are they at fourth? I think in the tank is on order. So if you're sitting four or five six that range
00:15:16Who are some of the names you are looking at there? Well, I'll tell you this
00:15:20Leaguewide I'll do first because it's easier. I want the first overall pick to be Ashton Janty because it'd be hilarious
00:15:26Just watching everybody's reaction and I don't think it would be totally undeserved
00:15:30I think it's probably gonna be Shudder Sanders. It probably should be Travis Hunter, but
00:15:36I think it's gonna be Shudder Sanders or Cam Ward and Hunter will go two or three depending on how the quarterbacks fall
00:15:41For the Patriots it should be a tackle and I I know people are gonna whine and moan about
00:15:47Well, you know will Campbell's not already a five-time all-pro and Oh Kelvin Banks
00:15:52I saw some guy online said he's a guard like it's crazy
00:15:55I tweeted out just a picture of Will Campbell and Kelvin Banks on Sunday because of how that game was going and
00:16:01How much and yeah, and I worked your guy or three in there
00:16:04I that was back from the Jets game originally before Earth we really broke up broke out
00:16:10Not only how much Patriots fans don't want those specific players
00:16:14Not only how much Patriots fans don't want those specific players but are like rooting against them
00:16:20And are like no like he's won't be good. He can't be good. I don't know if it's because they're they're so close
00:16:26to
00:16:27That like they see that receiver. They see Ted McMillan that guy they've wanted and they like have to downplay the tackle Patriots fans
00:16:32It's okay
00:16:34It's okay. You can take a tackle. Oh, he's not a top five pick trade down then even better
00:16:38That's a win-win you get more picks, but you know what?
00:16:41I think Banks is going to end up proving. He's a top five pick Campbell. We'll see with the arms, but the guy's talented
00:16:47The guy's immensely talented. I would take either one
00:16:50Um, you know if they move back, there's probably a better chance. It's Banks
00:16:54But I would absolutely take either one, but it should be a tackle. I I'm sorry. I know Travis Hunter's a fun player
00:17:00I know Ted McMillan's a fun player
00:17:02and by the way
00:17:02Travis Hunter might be out of range for them because again, I think he's going to be the top non-quarterback and
00:17:07Patriots
00:17:08If Jacksonville gets one and they you know have Trevor Lawrence like that would make a lot of sense for them
00:17:13Well, also I just think like Colts is a winnable game if they beat the Colts
00:17:16They're not picking Travis Hunter's gonna top three pick so he's gonna be a first non-quarterback off the board
00:17:22So that's probably it but I like I know Ted McMillan
00:17:24I know some people start talking themselves into Will Johnson Abdul Carter. Um
00:17:28No, they need tackle is their biggest need
00:17:31Veteran tackles are not a viable option. I know people have talked about Ronnie Stanley one
00:17:36I think he's going back to Baltimore
00:17:37Two he's 30 the idea of building a team is you want guys that are going to grow with Drake May in this offense
00:17:43Ronnie Stanley's 30
00:17:46so I know there's some tackles that play later, but
00:17:49I'm not investing that much in a 30 year old and you're going to need to replace that position again in two or three
00:17:53Years when you can probably take similar assets and go get a 26 year old wide receiver who will have
00:17:59Seven or eight years with Drake May. Um
00:18:02It should be one of the tackles it it should be one of the tackles absolutely and I I know I know
00:18:08Oh, well, this guy said they're both guards
00:18:12One guy says it online and you cling to it because you so desperately want the Patriots take that receiver you've been missing
00:18:18Go actually look at them for yourself Campbell again. I'll give you the arm link. Let's wait and see
00:18:24Tell the banks to tackle and also i'll say this too
00:18:27I'm kind of at the point where I don't want them to take a receiver
00:18:30And what I mean by that is
00:18:34They can't drop the receiver
00:18:36Well, not just draft. It's draft and develop
00:18:39I've said this and I know i'm kind of alone in this. I don't think they've necessarily taken the right guys
00:18:44But I think the development has been as much if not more of a problem
00:18:48You know
00:18:48Drafting the right guys only half the half the battle you have to put him in a place to succeed and work on his game
00:18:54And everybody everybody points right now at lad mcconkie
00:18:57I don't think lad mcconkie is doing here what he's doing in la right now
00:19:02You know, I a lot of these guys I don't think I go back to
00:19:06If they take in devo samuel, like the way the niners use devo samuel is brilliant
00:19:10That's not to say he would have been a total bust here
00:19:12But I don't think he becomes that player here that he became in san francisco
00:19:16And i'm just worried at this point about their ability to develop receivers
00:19:20Go get a guy that has been in the league that can prove and he
00:19:23Has proven he can do it in the league that knows how to do it in the league that you can just plug in
00:19:28and you don't need to develop and you don't need to work with so
00:19:31Yeah, I I want it to be a tackle. I think it will be a tackle again will campbell kelvin banks
00:19:36I go back and forth on the two will
00:19:39We'll see when we get there, but if either one of them i'd be happy. Um
00:19:44And this the tackles aren't a sure thing in this draft. I can't believe we're doing this again after we did this last year
00:19:50There is no
00:19:51sure thing
00:19:53in the draft
00:19:54Some things are more sure than others last year. You were all telling me joe alt was a sure thing
00:19:58They shouldn't take a quarterback joe alt's the sure thing now the tackles aren't a sure thing
00:20:02How's marvin harrison doing? I was told they were passing up on a hall of famer in marvin. He's been fine
00:20:08That's not saying he's been a bust. He's been fine, but I was told like marvin harrison would change everything
00:20:15How's that going? Like cardinals are fine. That offense is pretty good
00:20:19but
00:20:20yeah, I
00:20:21I'm, sorry. I know I got fired up take a tackle. Evan wouldn't let me talk draft on catch 22
00:20:26Well, here we go. It's we got a q a just to turn into this show
00:20:29We got a q a just to talk draft and someone too did mention like
00:20:34Uh, who are the top tackles?
00:20:36You know, he said free agency and draft you mentioned ronnie staley from baltimore
00:20:40yeah, I think the top three are like him garrett bowles from denver who's
00:20:45Up there in age two. He's like he's still playing good football
00:20:48but he's like 32 33, uh, and then cam robinson who you just saw get traded from jacksonville to minnesota, so
00:20:56He's I think he's like 30 something too. So he's up there like those are
00:21:00one to two year stop gaps or bridges like if you want to talk about
00:21:04you know going to the draft and who are some of those other guys like uh,
00:21:08Is it cam williams from texas and yeah
00:21:11well
00:21:12Now we're getting those are right tackles and they need a left or like josh simmons from ohio state who has a torn acl
00:21:20like
00:21:21You know, miss campbell
00:21:23kelvin banks
00:21:24ariante ursary
00:21:26Maybe josh connerly. Let's see what happens to the play on maybe josh connerly. I'm eddie
00:21:32Simmons, it's a nice idea. Hey, this guy was really good, but he tore his acl so you can get him later
00:21:37But like that's a half measure they have been doing half measures in left tackle for a decade
00:21:42At a certain point you can't keep kicking the can down the road. This is a premium position
00:21:47You need to address it with a premium asset
00:21:50So what so okay, you're in draft simmons. What if he's not ready to go to start the season?
00:21:54Are we going back to darien low? Do you not have to?
00:21:58You know spend 10 million on a starting guard who it's gonna be hard to pitch that guy when you just took simmons
00:22:04Your future left tack is gonna be hard to sell him to come here. And then what if simmons knee isn't right?
00:22:08Then we're doing this again next year and you just blew a top 50 pick
00:22:12It's a dominic easily kind of pick
00:22:15So I get the concept. It's not a knock against simmons the player they cannot
00:22:21It's getting too cute. They can't get too cute and take that risk their premium position premium asset
00:22:29Yeah, there's just got to be a time where you have that position settled right you say all the time you haven't done this show
00:22:37And come on this show and they've had a left tackle that you can just put in there and feel confident about
00:22:43And you have to take that guy high in the draft
00:22:45So we'll see where the the range kind of falls on will campbell, you know
00:22:49Kelvin banks will play in some big playoff games
00:22:51It looks like texas or at least they'll be in did they clinch the sec or be in the sec championship game? Uh,
00:22:58No, they have to beat. Uh, they have to win one more or something. They have to beat texas
00:23:03Yeah, or they have to be texas a&m. I mean, okay, they'll probably be in the playoff either way
00:23:07Yeah, so he'll probably have some big playoff games, you know, josh connerly from oregon will have some big games
00:23:14we'll see, you know lsu's kind of falling off of will campbell minnesota isn't on that level, but
00:23:19um, although ursery just went on abdul carter who's one i was gonna say he got he
00:23:24Got abdul carter. They also played. Um
00:23:28Who's they played michigan?
00:23:30Yep
00:23:31Despite sucking this year has a good defensive front
00:23:34So he's got he's got ursery has some good tape. He's got some and when I say good
00:23:39I haven't totally dove into it yet. But like he's got against quality opponents. He's not out there
00:23:44Going up against fcs southeast every week. Yep, so
00:23:48I get like some of the hate for these guys because you want the shiny tet mcmillan
00:23:52But there's got to be a time that you just lock one of these guys down and maybe they're not top five picks
00:23:57Maybe you trade back and great you pick up another first or second round pick and you get one of these guys at 12
00:24:02But if you just get one of these guys
00:24:04And extra capital that that would be
00:24:06Uh, I think a big win there. Someone also mentioned robin fish. Thank you so much for the 10
00:24:12He also said we need to draft a guard
00:24:14In a center in the second and third round and draft the best talent in the first round
00:24:19Uh, he's not so so sure of the tackles in the first round
00:24:23Where we stand right now, so that adds to the maybe trade back but i'll say with guards and centers
00:24:29You hope you can figure it out with what you have between laden robinson cole strange coming back. David. Andrews looks like mike and winu
00:24:36We've heard them say they want him at guard long term
00:24:39Looks like he is entrenched at right guard now that they use, you know city so at right tackle
00:24:44So I hope you have enough there
00:24:47On the interior that you're comfortable that you don't need to go spend a second and third round pick
00:24:51Uh at those two spots next season
00:24:55I
00:24:56Yeah, I I so first of all, like you said they they've invested so much at guard
00:25:00They cannot take a guard high again
00:25:02They shouldn't have taken a guard high last year
00:25:04Like they have a log jam they laid rob between laden robinson in city
00:25:08So they blew one of those fourth round picks that guy's not gonna play that guy's just not gonna be a factor here
00:25:14So they don't need to take a guard again high figure it out with what you have
00:25:18They've invested way too many assets like you said cole strange laden robinson city, so um
00:25:24There's too much there center
00:25:27not the top 100
00:25:28but
00:25:29I wouldn't hate it if they drafted a developmental center late just to kind of
00:25:34I I don't know that they have that next guy for david andrews. They have jake andrews
00:25:37But he you know, he's already almost done with his rookie deal and he struggled to say stay healthy
00:25:43Maybe cole strange kicks inside but i'd like to have another you know, i'm talking six seventh round pick
00:25:47I think they have a couple sevens just a guy that you can kind of work out and see what he has. Um
00:25:52This also doesn't address tackle at all
00:25:55This says guard center second third
00:25:58Like i'm, sorry, they're gonna have to take a tackle
00:26:00I don't know why patriots fans don't want them to take a tackle and again last year
00:26:03I got yelled at saying how can you pass on joe alt will campbell's really good guys. I can't
00:26:09Express that enough kelvin banks is really good
00:26:12I I I don't know
00:26:15Yeah, I I can't believe we went through a year of everybody telling me how
00:26:19You got to pass on drake may for joe alt you look at what drake may's doing and now suddenly they can't take a tackle
00:26:24I I don't I what happened? What did I miss crazy crazy? Um another draft question different position
00:26:33I think these people might be on tackle first round because they say who are some day two wide receivers
00:26:37You like diego also added to that and say thoughts on trey harris if they don't go wide receiver first round
00:26:44Uh old miss guy. I I like trey harris. He's kind of that ex body type. He can play outside good speed
00:26:50Um, so I like him from old miss probably in that early
00:26:54Second round range, but do you have any of those day two receivers you like or you know thoughts on trey harris there?
00:27:01Well, uh, first of all day two receivers. I I like trading that pick for an established nfl player
00:27:08You know, that's what I I like if we're going to talk about that brian
00:27:11I'm going to read you the draft network does a great job
00:27:14And i'm going to read you their strengths and weaknesses on trey harris. You tell me who this reminds you
00:27:19strengths catch radius length
00:27:21dominant and contested catch situations alignment versatile red zone threat
00:27:26concerns
00:27:28ability to separate precise route running vertical speed
00:27:34Sounds like a
00:27:362018 first round pick or was that 2019?
00:27:4019
00:27:41Kind of sounds like jaylen polk a little bit too. Like that's the guy they've been chasing
00:27:46I don't look the contested catch ability is unreal and maybe with a guy like drake may it finally works. Yeah, that's a difference. Definitely
00:27:53Yeah, I trey I so I I say that just because I I think it's it's a funny. Uh to bring that report up
00:28:00It's so spot on I think that's a little harsh on trey harris
00:28:03I'm, not totally out on him just by reading that but there's guys I like better who just have a little more explosiveness
00:28:09Ayo, manor from stanford
00:28:12Xavier restrepo is not really that true ex but a guy that they could maybe make work
00:28:17Um, just because they're more explosive and they need that explosiveness. They need some speed in this offense
00:28:21Now I wouldn't go as far and this guy's probably more of a first round pick
00:28:26Um, I wouldn't go as far as I say a bond now
00:28:28We're going from nikhil harry territory to taekwon thornton territory
00:28:33I want to lake isaiah bond because I like speed but there's just not much else there to like beyond the speed
00:28:39And again, we've been down that road
00:28:41uh, but I like trading it if not ayo manor, I just think is
00:28:46I don't know that he has one trait outside of his size that really is like
00:28:51Amazing, but he's really like he can separate
00:28:55He's got a good catch radius, he's a good route runner like he just feels like a professional receiver
00:29:01I I almost feel like he's a better version of the prospect that jalen polk was
00:29:07Because that's how I felt about pulp instead of being good across the board. I'd say ayo manor's close to great across the board
00:29:12He's not excellent at anything. Um, i'm also still not giving up on tory horton. I know he's had a bad year. He's been hurt
00:29:20um
00:29:21Now what he's been hurt and that's going to be part of the evaluation
00:29:24But especially if he falls to like the third round, uh, i'm not giving up on tory horton either
00:29:28Yeah, I like him from colorado state. He's a good player, but that's two straight years
00:29:32He has had some injury concerns and I think he's ended both of the last two years, uh with injuries. So maybe that's something
00:29:39Uh, they monitored we do talking receivers
00:29:43I know you just went on the whole tackle rant, you know first round, but yeah, do you like tett mcmillan?
00:29:49You know as a potential first round pick there
00:29:53I really freaking like tett mcmillan. I do it's hard man
00:29:57It's hard to say no to him
00:29:59my comp has been mike evans which evan tells me is too far and unfair to mcmillan to put it that high but
00:30:06I just said like eric a o manor can do everything kind of good to great
00:30:10tett mcmillan is day one or a o manor is really day two tett mcmillan
00:30:15Or round two tett mcmillan and then tory horton's probably round three tett mcmillan
00:30:20This is a guy that has elite size elite body control elite speed. He can create after the catch
00:30:26He's amazing at the catch point. He's done some tremendous things this year despite being on what is a terrible arizona team
00:30:34Uh, the one knock is inconsistency
00:30:38There are some games again even against lesser opponents where he disappears now some of that may be the roster
00:30:44uh around him
00:30:45but
00:30:46That's kind of going to be the question is because he can he do it consistently. I think he's a tremendous player
00:30:51But it is going to be easier
00:30:55to
00:30:56Trade for or sign a t higgins a dk metcalf and then draft the tackle
00:31:02McMillan is essentially the dk metcalf equivalent in the draft
00:31:06There is no will campbell kelvin banks equivalent on the open market
00:31:12And that's the difference to me
00:31:15so
00:31:16Really good player and the other thing is and you you guys heard me say this last year
00:31:20The way wide receiver talent is just being churned out in college football
00:31:26Everybody told me last year that they had to take marvin harrison because he couldn't not take a guy like that
00:31:34He's so unbelievably talented
00:31:36And I I don't he was a good prospect. I don't like disagree that he's an amazing prospect
00:31:41But here's set mcmillan
00:31:43Who now we can't pass on marvin harrison is like not even the most productive receiver from that draft like with malik
00:31:50he's been doing and
00:31:53Next year
00:31:54And let's let's say they they don't get the veteran or they just want to add
00:31:58So the first guy I would tell patriots fans to look up. Here we go. We're doing 2026
00:32:02Uh casey concepcion from nc state a little bit smaller, but a good downfield threat
00:32:08But the guy you should look up is nick harbour from south carolina a true freak
00:32:15Uh, he's the guy if you heard about it. He's uh, the he's like juiced at nca 25. Um,
00:32:226 5 2 40
00:32:25Runs a low 4 3 40. He's a track star
00:32:28at 6 5 2 40
00:32:30He is kind of raw because he came into college as a defensive end
00:32:33But like this guy's gonna be top 10 pick and he's gonna be one everybody's telling next year
00:32:38You can't sleep on it. So
00:32:40I'm, not i'm not losing sleep over passing on tat mcmillan to get a tackle
00:32:46when
00:32:47There's going to be more chances in the veteran market in the draft
00:32:50Look, they need to add a wide receiver at some point and that's going to take getting aggressive
00:32:54It's going to take premium draft capital money, maybe both in a trade, but the opportunities to do that
00:33:00Are multiple every off season I don't think
00:33:04You you can't replicate what you would get from tat mcmillan
00:33:08It's going to be a lot harder to replicate what you would get from will campbell or kelvin banks
00:33:12when do we get to do the uh
00:33:15jeremiah smith ryan williams debate
00:33:17So that's 2027
00:33:19So next year when we find out they need a pass rusher
00:33:22And I have to take back what I just said about nick harbour and casey concepcion because I did this rant last year
00:33:27I I did this same rant last year
00:33:31Talking about these guys that are in this draft talking about tat mcmillan and talking about luther burden
00:33:36And next year when we do it again, and I want to kick the can down the road again
00:33:40If they somehow botch this and don't get a receiver before then we get to talk about what might be the greatest wide receiver
00:33:45class of all time
00:33:47With jeremiah smith and ryan williams there are going to be chances to add these guys. I can't stress that enough
00:33:53Wide receiver and I know this sounds crazy because the patriots haven't done it
00:33:56Wide receiver might be the easiest position in the league to add elite talent
00:34:01and frankly, it makes the patriots look that much worse than they haven't that they haven't over the last five years, but
00:34:07Yeah, they they can get there. They can absolutely get there. Yeah, hopefully by the jeremiah smith ryan williams class the patriots have
00:34:15Need somebody by that. They should be picking high enough to drive them by order in the spot
00:34:21You know, they trade down this year they have some draft capital they can oh they go so good
00:34:26They nail the next offseason
00:34:27They can move up and go get one of these guys and pair them with drake may and it's perfect and everything's
00:34:32awesome down there, uh at one patriots place, but
00:34:36um
00:34:37You know tackles receivers. Those are the two big positions probably not the deepest position
00:34:43Uh in this draft, what do you think is the deepest position in this draft?
00:34:47Definitely more of a defensive draft compared to last year, especially when it was like the first 13 14 picks
00:34:53We're all in the offensive side of the ball
00:34:55Uh this year, what do you think the deepest parts of the draft are?
00:35:00Pass rushers and running backs
00:35:03That's like this this running back class is insane. I know somebody tweeted at me today. I appreciate the tweet that they started watching. Um
00:35:11Scataboo, I don't know why i'm blanking on his first name, uh, cameron scataboo from
00:35:16Arizona state super fun running back. He's a brick. You know, what house 5 10
00:35:23215
00:35:24third in the nation and in uh forced missed tackles this year also one of the top receiving backs in the country
00:35:30He's projected to go in like the 200s now. He's older and doesn't have much of a ceiling
00:35:35but
00:35:36he's a uh
00:35:38He's a good player and again, that's just the depth of it you go up and down this class
00:35:42There's so many good good running backs top to bottom edge, you know, some of these guys are underclassmen
00:35:48So they may go back to school. I don't know that it's going to be that
00:35:52you know
00:35:53full seventh round depth that i'm talking about at running back, but
00:35:57You got the two ohio state guys currently projected to go in the second round
00:36:01uh
00:36:02Ton of ton of depth there through i'd say the top 75 picks
00:36:06I I think those are probably the two. I I you're not I don't think you're rushing
00:36:10To take e uh guys there. I think you can get with your second
00:36:14Remember, they have two third round picks you can get quality players at those positions
00:36:17They're running back even into day three. You're going to get running backs midway through day three
00:36:21That would usually be top 100 picks
00:36:22Yeah, the the edge is good because that spot or the pages need a three down guy
00:36:27and if you are hammering those other needs more important needs like
00:36:32You know tackle a wide receiver in the first round
00:36:34You still should be able to get a quality edge guy at the top of the second round there then running back could even be
00:36:41Uh, you know a need there later in in the draft. So we'll see what happens there
00:36:45There was a running back question if we go
00:36:48Um back to the current roster. Why did they not use antonio gibson more they give him the ball
00:36:53He runs well, then all of a sudden, uh, they stopped playing david
00:36:56I was saying that during the game
00:36:57He had the two big runs and I think they went three or four drives without him getting another touch
00:37:01So I would like to see gibson more. They need more explosive playmakers
00:37:06He is that if they want to run this wide zone?
00:37:09He looks much more comfortable doing so than remandre stevenson. So I would like more gibson
00:37:14I do wonder he was on the injury report sometimes early in the season
00:37:18So I wonder if that had something to do with it
00:37:20And maybe he's getting a little healthier now and you see him a little bit more
00:37:23But I would like more antonio gibson down the stretch. They gave him a three-year deal. So he's gonna be here
00:37:29Although I don't know the guaranteed money off the top of my head
00:37:31But would you like to see more gibson kind of over these last five games?
00:37:35Yeah, no, it's a it's a good question and they're starting to kind of ease him in a little bit more
00:37:38I would say pick it up
00:37:39the whole point was he was supposed to be like a high quality spell back to keep stevenson fresh and
00:37:44I feel like he gets one
00:37:45Out snap remandre last game for the first time he might have but he only got like and granted last game's weird because they got
00:37:51behind so big so early and
00:37:54uh
00:37:55They couldn't really run the ball
00:37:56but like it feels like he just gets one drive a game to carry the ball and that's it and
00:38:00I the running game needs to get going. It hasn't been good. And yeah, he he should be involved more. Yep
00:38:05Uh, you also mentioned in your tet mcmillan talk
00:38:11I lost a question here. Uh t higgins
00:38:14Danny says what are your guys thoughts on t being the favorite to sign with new england?
00:38:19I don't know if that's on one of the books or something
00:38:22But obviously a target for the patriots at that extra seaver spot
00:38:27I was watching the chargers game last night and watching quentin johnson drop a bunch of passes
00:38:31Uh say man, I don't know how the chargers do not go all out for t higgins pairing him with lad mcconkie would be amazing
00:38:39so they'll have some competition if he hits the open market, but thoughts on
00:38:43Uh t higgins definitely a fit but just thoughts on him entering potentially free agency
00:38:48And then quentin johnson will end up on the patriots practice squad, but I think that uh, I mean
00:38:54I wouldn't be mad. I certainly wouldn't be mad. I think they can do better
00:38:57I would get aggressive and go to the trade market and try to get one of these pre-agents
00:39:01Is jamar chase doesn't seem super happy there and he's gonna need a new contract. Uh, but
00:39:07Higgins to me is like the baseline like if they get higgins i'd be happy. I think it's the
00:39:14Worst best case scenario. Does that make sense?
00:39:16Like they did well they could get more but i'd say they did well and I think higgins can be a number one receiver in
00:39:22This league. I don't think he's
00:39:24Uh, you know, I don't think he's dk metcalf. I don't think he's um, who are the other guys we've talked about?
00:39:30uh
00:39:31You know those other kind of pre-agent types. Um, I don't think he's uh
00:39:35Closer to iuk I guess but I don't think he's iuk but he's better than like a christian watson
00:39:39Who's another guy some people think will be available? So, um
00:39:43Yeah, he should be in consideration they should be doing their due diligence
00:39:46they should absolutely be in the mix on him doesn't mean they can't do better but
00:39:50You don't just pursue one guy and put the blinders on and and focus on nothing else. They they should be
00:39:56Right at the forefront with t higgins. Yep
00:39:59The only thing that kind of scares me with him is the injuries
00:40:02You've seen that throughout his career, but I I definitely think he could be a number one guy
00:40:06I'll say this with the injuries too. Like that's a franchise that has historically struggled with keeping players healthy
00:40:12I was actually talking to dakota randall bob sosie about this earlier today. I remember 21
00:40:18Nobody wanted hunter henry here. I was just because of the injury history and like
00:40:23Let's not say there aren't injury prone players
00:40:25There are but you also got to look at the organization the player plays for because not every medical staff is the same
00:40:31and credit to the patriots
00:40:33They have done a good they they have historically had a good medical staff and they have kept guys healthy and hunter henry talked about
00:40:39after that first year
00:40:40I think it was the first time he played a full season in like three or four years like
00:40:43he gave a ton of praise to the patriots medical staff for
00:40:46Changing up his workout regimen changing up his routine and them playing a role in him continuing to be healthy
00:40:52So I like it cincinnati again. It's an organization that's struggled. They don't have the best medical staff
00:40:57They don't invest a ton in it. The patriots medical staff is generally one of the better ones in the league
00:41:02um
00:41:03I i'm not saying I totally discount higgins injury history, but the patriots do have a track record of
00:41:10Bringing in those injury prone players and suddenly they get here and they're playing 16 17 games a year. Definitely
00:41:18Uh another speaking of injured receivers someone mentioned chris godwin question mark
00:41:23that future tennessee titan
00:41:27He's also just like
00:41:29I mean
00:41:31Yeah
00:41:32I I love chris godwin. He's a really good player. But is that just like 31?
00:41:36Yeah, too many injuries as of late and another just one of these kind of inside guys like yeah
00:41:43Yeah, it doesn't really make sense the tet and the t higgins like those are the x
00:41:48Receivers the jump ball guys that you compare with drake may like that's the thought process behind those guys are going to get dk metcalf
00:41:55or
00:41:56taylor's convinced that aj brown is going to hit the trade market so like those guys again, I like I love chris godwin, but
00:42:03Uh, just you're bringing in another one of these and I mean he'd be an upgrade over jaylen polk or maybe even kendrick born
00:42:10But like you have those guys like go get the go get the alpha x guy
00:42:14uh along the boundary, but
00:42:17um
00:42:18Tight ends speaking of tight ends
00:42:21Would you be interested in poaching michael meyer from the raiders i've brought that up I think a few shows ago
00:42:27Uh robert said meyer for jaheem bell potential trade
00:42:30I don't know if the raiders would be interested in that but just the idea of michael meyer and getting
00:42:36A young tight end in this room a high pedigree, you know high second round pick
00:42:41You know hooper
00:42:43And henry are both going to be 30. So getting a young guy
00:42:47That maybe you know the raiders signed or drafted brock bowers, so where's michael meyer on their you know
00:42:53future plans
00:42:54Any interest in in that potential idea this offseason?
00:42:58I I wouldn't be opposed to an interesting thought. I don't know about for jaheem bell
00:43:02Um, I also know what the raiders are going to quit on that might be something where they want to be a too tight end
00:43:08smash mouth offense that kind of felt like the idea to me and then bowers is just broken out, but
00:43:15I wouldn't be opposed. It's also somewhere. I think they can go in the draft
00:43:18you don't need that guy ready right now, but um
00:43:21I can't play that in class
00:43:23It's a good tight end class. It is I I think it would be too soon for the raiders to give up on meyer, too
00:43:29If they're willing to part with him, especially for that little honestly, that's kind of a red flag to me
00:43:35Because he's a good player
00:43:36but um
00:43:39Yeah, I it's an interesting thought. I just don't
00:43:42I don't know how that plays out in full. Yeah
00:43:45I mean the tight end class like colston loveland might be a late first round pick
00:43:49Tyler warren the penn state might be a late first round pick, but then you got uh,
00:43:54harold fannon bowling green drake may's guy bryson nesbitt could be like a
00:43:59three fourth fourth round pick so
00:44:01mason taylor
00:44:03Oscar delp if he comes out guys, so it's a good I still want john michael gillenborg because that's just such a good tight end name
00:44:10There you go, but yeah, maybe
00:44:13again, I like the idea like the thought process of going to get a guy like michael meyer who maybe is on the outside after
00:44:19they get bowers, but um
00:44:22Good good tight end class. Maybe you could just yeah, uh draft one of your own
00:44:26um
00:44:28Let's see what else we got here in the chat
00:44:32we mentioned edge a little bit but
00:44:36What would you do to address it the free agency class is ken asked
00:44:40kind of weak like it's matthew judan is one of the top two guys, so
00:44:44um, or he says any mid-round prospects just any more of those edge guys that that you're kind of
00:44:52Looking at or like watching in the college football
00:44:55I like the two ohio state guys. I still like patrick payton
00:44:59Although he's probably more situational than a three down player
00:45:02To me that's the third of the three big needs. So if you take a tackle at the top of the draft
00:45:08If you sign a receiver, I think that's the second round pick as a pass rusher
00:45:12If not, I even think like let's say you trade that second round pick for a receiver
00:45:15I think you use those two thirds you move back up in the late second
00:45:18I think you're gonna get a capable player
00:45:20You're not gonna get miles garrett, but I think you're gonna get a capable player and for right now
00:45:24They could just use capable on the outside defensively. So I think that's the third biggest need
00:45:29I know some people have corner in there
00:45:30I just think because you have christian gonzalez
00:45:33you at least have one spot set and you don't need it would be nice to have you know, that real elite duo, but
00:45:39matt doll who I work with at 985 sports club.com had a good take like can you just find the
00:45:45austin hooper of corners
00:45:47In free agency to pair with gonzalez
00:45:49That's a position where it's more realistic to find like a veteran bridge guy
00:45:53And I carlton davis is scheduled for agent as a player
00:45:56I like not the player he was in tampa, but I still think he can give you something him or him or dj reed
00:46:01And I know dj would be
00:46:03Yeah, they need some size. He does play bigger, but they got a lot of guys to play bigger
00:46:08They need a guy that is bigger. Yeah, carlton davis would be a good ad
00:46:11He's had a good year in detroit and has that kind of size to me
00:46:14Can they find what jason mccordie was for them in 2018?
00:46:18Yeah, like I think if you get that guy
00:46:21That's enough at corner for the next year or two and eventually yeah
00:46:24You'll want to find somebody better to pair with gonzalez when you when you have so many other holes
00:46:29So many other holes. I I just don't think you can invest that much at that position
00:46:35yeah, also like they they do a good job historically developing cornerbacks and
00:46:40I don't put it past them to find a guy in the fifth round or sixth round who becomes like a you know
00:46:45Maybe not a stud but like a solid number two or like a 1b kind of player. Definitely
00:46:50You know, they're like chasey jackson malcolm butler type
00:46:53Yeah, but defense I think is a good place
00:46:56To buy a little bit on on, you know in the free agency market, but that edge position, you know, I was just
00:47:02Pulling it up. It's hassan radix the top guy
00:47:05uh, matthew judon demarcus lawrence josh sweat chase young so
00:47:10not the most
00:47:11You know appealing class baron browning
00:47:14um
00:47:16So not not a not a great class maybe that and with a deep draft class
00:47:20maybe that's a spot you go to uh in the draft, but
00:47:25Is andrew ron here for wanting them to take abdul carter who might be edge one at the end of this or will johnson?
00:47:31Who might be the top cornerback?
00:47:34after all this in the draft, so that would have to be your
00:47:37First first rounder high up there
00:47:40Both really good players, but could you convince yourself to take one of them?
00:47:45Uh with your first round pick there
00:47:48uh
00:47:50Again, I just think there's too many other needs
00:47:52I I think there are I think will johnson specifically. I know he's at a down year and he's hurt but he he's freaking good
00:47:59yeah, um, but kind of like what I said with ted mcmillan like it's just
00:48:04At a certain point. I know people hate draft for need and I I'm not a believer in truly drafting for need
00:48:11I'm also not a believer in truly drafting the best player available
00:48:14I think both of those are kind of logical fallacies if you go too far to one extreme
00:48:18Well now you're just taking running backs and kickers in the first round because if we're just going off
00:48:22Who's the most talented at their position? All right, so positional factor positional value does factor in that's called drafting from need
00:48:29But you don't want to go too far in that other direction. You end up drafting cole strange in the first round
00:48:33So I I I think you got to be realistic within it
00:48:37And as good as carter and johnson are and they are very good players
00:48:41So are those top two tackles and objectively those tackles are going to help you more especially when it comes to developing the young quarterback
00:48:48um
00:48:49In such a deep edge class. I'm not sweating losing carter
00:48:53I think there were other good options down the board
00:48:55Maybe not quite as good but like guys that I think can contribute year one certainly
00:49:00Corner, I i'm honestly not super familiar with this corner class as as much as I usually am this time of year because i've just been
00:49:07Kind of more focused on other positions and we didn't think it was going to be a need
00:49:11uh as strongly as it is
00:49:13The ohio state guys are going to be tempting. They're going to be interesting
00:49:16So if people don't know ohio state is two corners denzel burke and davidson igben ozen
00:49:21I mean burke was projected to be a top 10 pick I think right like he was a
00:49:26Yeah, it was way up there on the boards. I don't think igben ozen has been very good this year
00:49:31Well, neither of them have been and that's the thing like so burke was coming into the season
00:49:36Or at the end of last season people thought was going to be like a lock to be a first round pick
00:49:39He struggled igben ozen's had a ton of penalty problems
00:49:43Um, he's gotten picked on at times. So that's going to be the one where you look at it
00:49:47You said well, he was a first round talent at one point. You can get him at 70
00:49:50um, you know those guys are going to be tempting but uh
00:49:53I think that's again corner. It makes more sense to go veteran for me
00:49:58Yep
00:49:59uh
00:50:01You'll like danny's comment they should call seattle for dk. Absolutely
00:50:05100
00:50:06This this is the move. This is the move. I feel stronger about this than I do about the tackles at the top of the draft
00:50:12He's gonna need a new contract. I know seattle just won but like it hasn't been great there this year
00:50:18Ever since going into a rebuild ever since schaefter had to come out and say on the trade deadline that dk metcalf was not getting traded
00:50:26Something's there that made him have to say that so right exactly exactly
00:50:31So let it be known somehow some way people talk at the combine. Hey, there's
00:50:3630 something million dollars a year waiting for you in new england if you don't want to resign in seattle like
00:50:42Let that be known somehow some way not the patriots would tamper
00:50:45But you know buy a billboard put it up on on route 90 out there in seattle
00:50:51and uh
00:50:52yeah, that's
00:50:54I that's the move this more than higgins
00:50:57More than talks at the top of the draft if they can make if I could have them make one move this off this off season
00:51:02I guarantee one move
00:51:04Dk metcalf here on a long-term deal
00:51:07Okay, there you go
00:51:09Am I wrong? I mean, do you disagree?
00:51:13One realistic move like yeah patrick mahomes would be great but one realistic ish move
00:51:18Is aj brown going to be available
00:51:21So I was talking to taylor about this today. He loved that idea. He is all in on that
00:51:25I know but he's like a captain and I don't think he like he's under contract, isn't he?
00:51:31I think does he need a new deal?
00:51:34i'll put um
00:51:37Adrian brown
00:51:40Let's see
00:51:41I thought he recently signed an extension. Oh my god. He has so many void years what?
00:51:48He has void years through 2034
00:51:51That's nuts
00:51:53That's absurd you're not taking those on if you're the patriots, um, oh yeah, he is kind of a pre-agent. All right. Um
00:52:03Yeah, you could
00:52:06Some of I don't know how the back end of this contract works. Honestly, it's so extreme
00:52:11Are you seeing this? Yeah
00:52:13I mean, it's all zeros
00:52:16It's all zeros from 2031 to 2034. Oh, they they prorated his signing bonus
00:52:21That's why it runs out that far. Oh, I see the prorated signing. Okay, so he's got a little um
00:52:28Bobby venea thing going on here. So the patriots wouldn't be responsible for that though. That's why the eagles
00:52:35don't believe so I again, this is where we need miguel, but
00:52:40contract aside, uh, aj brown or dk metcalf, I feel like that's
00:52:45I'll flip a coin. Give me one of them
00:52:48I would take I guess aj brown. I guess aj brown definitely in that argument, but I I wouldn't say no to uh,
00:52:56Uh dk metcalf there, but this this is a good one assuming they get
00:53:00You know one of these guys whoever it is
00:53:03How do you think the wide receiver room roster construction will work out next season?
00:53:07Who is the odd man out there in that? All right, so added guy
00:53:13Added higgins player gaff player brown, whoever right added added guy
00:53:19douglas
00:53:20born born
00:53:22Pop is still going to be here
00:53:25Booty, I think they give another chance baker booty baker would be on the baker would be on the border
00:53:31I don't know that baker's a lock for second year's fourth round pick especially because they just don't seem happy with them
00:53:35But I think that's true, you know
00:53:39the guy you're
00:53:41Signing or trading for is that kind of like big x outside receiver? That's kind of jayvon baker's role. So
00:53:49maybe they
00:53:51You know, we've we heard lots of kendrick born trade rumors this year. Maybe you know jaylen polk
00:53:57Shows something that that makes you a little bit more confident
00:54:00And then when you get one of these big guys, you can move cash on booty back inside and you're confident, you know
00:54:05trading kendrick born away and jayvon baker can be your back of x but
00:54:09Yeah
00:54:11And I guess it's a different front office, but they what was pierce strong fourth round pick fifth round pick they flipped him in the earth
00:54:17Yeah, so that jayvon baker was the fourth
00:54:20I wouldn't roll that polk's gonna be here for another year and poll
00:54:24And i'm not saying he's been good this year. I just by nature of being a second round pick taekwon thornton got a second year
00:54:28Right. It's just you got you. Well, this is this was his third year, right? Yeah, he got a third. Um
00:54:35Those guys don't move
00:54:37Baker, I don't think is a lock to be here next year whether you think that's right or wrong
00:54:41I mean and whether I think that's right or wrong i'd like to see him get a little more run down the stretch here
00:54:45So we have a better idea. I don't think that's going to happen
00:54:47But uh, yeah baker to me is not a lock to to be here next year. Yep
00:54:52uh
00:54:53I know we were talking about guards and centers earlier. This is still one of my favorite free agent targets trey smith, kansas city
00:55:02One of he's going to be one of the top guys on the market
00:55:05Sounds like he might make it to the market based off kansas city's other needs and some of their internal options
00:55:11uh behind him, but
00:55:13if this is if you're not confident in layton robinson or some of these, you know cole strange like
00:55:18pay trey smith
00:55:20Locked down. He played left guard in uh college
00:55:23He moved to the right side because kansas city signed joe tooney so you can get some guard revenge there retake their guy
00:55:30Uh, i'm a big trey smith guy sign him play him at left guard
00:55:34It's got some nastiness to him, too. He's a super bowl winner
00:55:37He's got some experience bring some super bowl experience to that offense
00:55:40Like if your interior is trey smith david andrews slash cole strange and michael winnow, I feel really solid
00:55:47About that interior and then if you can, you know add your tackle at the top of the draft
00:55:51I think you're really cooking something there
00:55:53uh with the offensive line, so are you a trey smith guy or
00:55:57Or
00:55:58Enough with guards enough with paying guards like let's figure it out with what we have
00:56:01Yeah, it's if you're gonna give that big contract you've invested so much at guard. I'm not saying it would be a bad move
00:56:09Like that's how I feel about a lot of these like if you tell me they're gonna add a good player
00:56:12I'm gonna be happy about it because they need to add good players
00:56:15If you can't take anybody else if you can't get anybody else take your money and trey smith is willing to
00:56:21Then yeah, obviously you sign trey smith, but if it's give 20 million a year to trey smith
00:56:26or give
00:56:2812 million a year to carlton davis and the 8 million a year to some like third down situational pass rusher
00:56:35I'd rather option b
00:56:37Because it it makes you more complete team. What about option c?
00:56:40Do it all because you have the money to do it all you can do it all but i'm saying like well
00:56:44You're gonna have to give what 30 something million to the receiver and that's a non-negotiable
00:56:48So there's 30
00:56:50Another 20 50 like and then they're gonna have to resign a couple guys
00:56:53Like the the cap space does kind of evaporate quick you can't make
00:56:59Like you you can make what three four splash signings maybe
00:57:02Yeah, it's not as bad in year one because you can you know
00:57:06You you can and the cap can be maneuvered. I know felger, but it's
00:57:10Like what? Uh, let me pull up mike and windu right now like his cap hit this year
00:57:17Is only 10.9 million so
00:57:20You know you can kind of finagle those early numbers now it balloons to 21 and then 25
00:57:26The next two years, but they still have money those two years
00:57:29It would all be great
00:57:30but like if you're gonna go out and you're gonna pay one of these receivers
00:57:33And then you're gonna add one of the top corners on the market
00:57:36and then
00:57:38You got out of safety. That's probably a veteran move
00:57:42And that you know, those are three premium signings i'd make
00:57:46Are you adding an edge rusher i'd do it through the draft or are you adding an ed like it it
00:57:51I I guess the right way to say it that that was a bad way to put it because you're right like they have the
00:57:55Money to spend it's more about like where that is on the list of priorities
00:57:59And and I guess money aside like you only have so much time
00:58:02You've got to recruit these guys and if you're going
00:58:04This is what happened last year where they went all in on calvin ridley and other guys are signing and they're you know
00:58:10pedal to the middle for calvin ridley and these other guys want to get signed these other teams are making moves like
00:58:15I would expend the resource not just money time. I would expend the resources elsewhere
00:58:21Before i'd expend them at guard. It's not me saying I wouldn't take the guard
00:58:24but if we find out like oh, yeah, they were all in on trey smith and carlton davis signed in the meantime and
00:58:30And you know one of these edge rushers signed in the meantime and maybe a receiver like
00:58:35They messed it up. They messed it up. Yeah
00:58:39I I just he he might be if it's not t higgins like he might be the best player on the market
00:58:43So I I wouldn't kill him for going after him
00:58:46And again, like you would feel really confident about your interior if you want to tell me they added him anti higgins great. Awesome
00:58:53Perfect. Awesome. Just don't don't get too. He's not a guy get caught up in I don't think they need
00:58:58Trey smith the way they need the receiver the way they need another corner. Yep
00:59:04um
00:59:06This is uh
00:59:07Go one just for content wise when will we start ramping up our draft talk?
00:59:12When are y'all going to start really evaluating prospects doing the mock drafts mock drafts don't start
00:59:19until
00:59:20I think when did we start last year like february? We'll do one the week after the super bowl
00:59:26And then we'll start doing them regularly in march. It's just really hard to do before free agency
00:59:30I know you guys want to see them. It's just
00:59:33it's kind of a fool's errand because as we go we have to do this whole dumb exercise of
00:59:37You know, we post the draft where we say in the video
00:59:40Oh, well, you know, we assume they're signing this guy
00:59:42We assume they're signing that guy or this guy will get re-signed or this guy won't get re-signed and then it's you know
00:59:47There's so much context we're missing. So we'll do one in february
00:59:50We take tet mcmillan first and then they sign t higgins the next week and it's like, okay, that's irrelevant now
00:59:57We'll start that but like so that being said
01:00:01We're gonna when we did a ton of draft talk tonight
01:00:04We'll get we'll talk throughout the college football playoff. This is a really new unique
01:00:09kind of
01:00:10Draft evaluation opportunity to have more elite players on elite players
01:00:15The senior bowl is the last week in january senior bowl and shrine bowl. We'll dig into those
01:00:19And then you know you get into the combine. So
01:00:21I mean now the draft talk ramps up now and next week's the bye week. So maybe we'll do more draft stuff
01:00:27Give us the final four games of the year
01:00:30to get through those and then it will kind of be
01:00:33Right back into it like this. I always say it's an off-season show and off-season basically means draft. So it's coming
01:00:39It's it's it's basically starting now. It's basically starting tonight. Yep
01:00:44Yeah, um
01:00:45I try not I mean I was
01:00:47You know, we watch a lot of college football too much college football probably and talk about it all year
01:00:52But I try not to like really sit down and dive into these guys
01:00:56Yeah until probably right about now because I and I'll yet to march
01:01:01Early on april and you're and you're just you know burnt out with some of these
01:01:04It'll be better this year because we don't have to do the quarterback. Yes
01:01:09We can extend this to a few more positions, hopefully
01:01:13um
01:01:14but yeah, probably i'll
01:01:15Probably take some time over the bye week to start sitting down and watching some of these tackles. We're also
01:01:21I mean, we're we're still in that
01:01:23You know, I I always say okay
01:01:24These are the guys to watch and it doesn't mean it's the guys that want them to draft
01:01:27It's just these the guys to be aware of these are the guys because you watch them so you can build that opinion
01:01:32Like I said with the college football playoff, like we still have ball left to play
01:01:36and
01:01:37We still have ball left to play in the nfl too and the draft board
01:01:41Independent of the patriots is going to tell us a lot about who their options are because where do the quarterback teams fall?
01:01:46So and and who are the quarterbacks like cam ward's probably going to get a shot in the playoff
01:01:50That's going to impact his draft stock a ton and and that changes maybe what the patriots picture is
01:01:55So we're still in that players to watch phase
01:01:58it's really once we get into the senior bowl that we get more into the
01:02:02okay, like who do we like who do we not like so, um,
01:02:05yeah, we're we're
01:02:07We're still in the very early portion of the early portion of this process
01:02:12Senior bowl is a good date. That's when we really start
01:02:15Getting senior bowls when we still shrine bowl try and now there's better players going to the shrine bowl
01:02:19Like we'll dig in shrine bowl senior bowl. That's when we'll really start digging in. Yep
01:02:24And senior bowl is uh, february 1st. So I think that might be the game
01:02:29I don't know if that's the game or practice. I'm guessing that's the game but
01:02:32Uh right around the game. Is that a saturday?
01:02:35Yeah, so that that's the game so late january early february is when we we really start
01:02:41Uh kind of get into it. This is a good one again back to current roster and
01:02:47Uh, this can kind of get us we'll include a little colts talk in this one
01:02:51Uh, diego just said isaiah bolden, please. Yes
01:02:54Someone says I want to see isaiah and isaiah bolden as well six two and very fast
01:02:59this is a matchup against the colts where
01:03:03size not speed
01:03:05ad mitchell alec pierce michael pittman
01:03:08All big receivers, it doesn't sound like josh downs. They're kind of short
01:03:13slot pop douglas wide receiver is going to play so maybe not a
01:03:17John jones marcus jones game. Maybe i'd love to see some say bolden i'm with you guys
01:03:22But maybe more of an alex austin maybe get some of that size out there
01:03:26Uh at corner to try and slow down some of these colts bigger receivers
01:03:31100 100
01:03:33I've been waiting to see zay bolden. Alex. Austin was hurt. So I get that like he should be playing but
01:03:38Couldn't play him. He had bum ankle. I get it. Uh
01:03:41It's about time. We see isaiah bolden on defense
01:03:44He just did the size and athleticism combination. Maybe he sucks
01:03:48I'd rather find out i'd rather and I don't think he'll suck. I don't think he'll be great
01:03:51But I don't think he'll suck. I think he'll be a functional third corner
01:03:54They need that especially guy with that size. I'd love to see him this week
01:03:57definitely
01:03:59um, you see any other
01:04:02Hang on i'll bring this up because we we did lineman receiver talk and it's that stupid, you know that graphic
01:04:09Joe burrow anybody jamar chase jamar anyway
01:04:13Bengals have zero regrets taking chase over sewell worked out well for both teams
01:04:17correct
01:04:19Who's to say the patriots aren't the lions in this scenario?
01:04:22It's all yeah
01:04:23Who say the patriots aren't the lions? They're enjoying penny sewell. That's for sure. Yeah
01:04:29I don't think they're they're they're kicking themselves that jamar chase didn't fall to him
01:04:32Definitely now. I don't know what the patriots can find in amman raw st. Brown. I wanted him in that draft so bad
01:04:39I loved amman raw in that draft. I think I have receipts to prove that too
01:04:43I'll have to pull those up but he would have an evan was all just evan's always in on the usc guys, but
01:04:49fair
01:04:49um
01:04:51Here's another one kind of uh cults related
01:04:54um
01:04:55Latu latu has three force fumbles this year. David's scared of may fumbling more than once just
01:05:02in this colts game
01:05:04kind of
01:05:05I don't want to say similar to miami. They don't
01:05:08You know miami blitz may 15 times and a lot of it was
01:05:13From that second level like you saw jalen ramsey making a difference
01:05:16That's kind of what the colts do at times these blitzes come from corners. They come from second levels. So you could maybe see
01:05:23Gus bradley just copy and paste that miami formula kind of similar from last week heat up drake may
01:05:29We just opened the show with these offensive line changes that might be coming
01:05:33Uh, are you worried about that matchup kind of going into it drake said today they got to see everything
01:05:39You know as one on the same set of eyes, which you saw that was a worry
01:05:44Or an issue against miami, you know
01:05:46Missing pop douglas on that play
01:05:49Um and and just the line struggling to pick things up so in this matchup against the colts
01:05:53Are you worried about that?
01:05:55And I know you talked about maybe drake falling back into some of these old habits
01:06:00The unc habits that we saw a little bit there against miami. Are you worried about that in this?
01:06:05Colts front here on sunday. I mean, it's not even about the colts. I mean, I did this whole thing yesterday
01:06:09it's the turnovers and the bad habits and they got to get cleaned up and
01:06:14Lots of forces fumbles, but everybody forces fumbles against drake may right now
01:06:17He's all the more reason that that ball security has to be a point of emphasis in this game
01:06:22definitely
01:06:23Uh anything else just that that colts game that you're specifically
01:06:28You're looking at or players will the offensive line change now?
01:06:32Um penalties obviously cuts out on those
01:06:35I want to see the last
01:06:36Three weeks three last four weeks the patriots have been two different teams in the first quarter in the rest of the game
01:06:42And for a team that began the year talking about we need to start hot
01:06:46They now only start hot and then cool off and just can they capture some momentum?
01:06:52From the first 15 minutes of a football game. They're gonna be at home
01:06:55They can get the crowd on their side like it's this weird thing where they went from
01:07:00the worst possible starts imaginable to
01:07:03They had the lead in the first quarter in a couple of games recently and still ended up getting blown out
01:07:08And can they be better?
01:07:10Still start hard still start hot but then maintain it as well
01:07:15Yep. Yeah, I want to see how they bounce back the last time
01:07:18Yeah, it kind of was like a blowout and then you had mayo in the spotlight was that london game against jacksonville?
01:07:25And they came out the next week at home against the jets even when drake may got hurt and they bounced back and they got
01:07:31a win so
01:07:32Uh seeing how they bounce back. We'll be really telling he'll hear like you got five games left a bye will be nice
01:07:39Uh next week
01:07:41But it's time for you know
01:07:42Some of these fringe guys to see who can you know, make you feel good going in the offseason, you know
01:07:46We talked about laden robinson
01:07:48Doesn't sound or you know mayo said kaden wallace is close
01:07:53Might not be back this week. He wasn't at the walkthrough. We'll see going on that could probably be
01:07:58Uh something after the bye so see which players can kind of end strong and make you feel a little bit better
01:08:03uh about them, you know going to the offseason and
01:08:07Cult related it'll be interesting. I just anthony richardson like he's been so up and down
01:08:12Patriots haven't really faced a quarterback run game like this. So interesting to see how they
01:08:18uh defend that defensively, but
01:08:20um
01:08:22Should be a good one should want to see how they bounce back. So
01:08:26uh anything else for that or it's just it's it's interesting like
01:08:31richardson and may are kind of similar players richardson's much more extreme version, but
01:08:36Third quarterback taken in their draft. They were the high ceiling
01:08:39erratic option and
01:08:42We've seen a little bit with may if you think may's play has been polarizing
01:08:45Anthony richardson is the only qualified quarterback in the league among 36 players with a completion percentage under 50
01:08:53Yet he leads the league by a significant margin in yards per completion not yards per attempt
01:08:59Because he doesn't complete enough of the attempts, but he's averaging like 16 yards for completion
01:09:04Meanwhile, he's the third highest interception rate in the league. Drake may is seven
01:09:09And drake may leads the the leading quarterback fumbles despite having only played eight games
01:09:13Anthony richardson's in second despite having only played eight games. So it's
01:09:18It's gonna be
01:09:20That was weird
01:09:22It's gonna be waves. It's gonna be a roller coaster. Whatever you want to call it on sunday. Yeah, I mean he he came back
01:09:28It was the jets his first game back. Yeah, and he was really good and then last as the chest. Yeah
01:09:34last week wasn't as good but I mean we mentioned those big receivers like
01:09:38Alec pierce is averaging 23 yards of reception and you know pitman and ad mitchell. They're both
01:09:45over 12 almost 13 yards of reception, so
01:09:48They can bomb the ball and then the run game, you know, david said jonathan taylor to my guy badger. I love jonathan taylor, but
01:09:57It'll be
01:09:59It's a inconsistent offense at times as you just said, but yeah
01:10:03Um, they can strike and they can strike pretty quickly
01:10:07Uh, do you think someone said here? Do you think it will be a gonzo boundary game?
01:10:11I would imagine it is just like all those three guys, but
01:10:16Yeah, you're with you're with gonzo on the boundary
01:10:19Uh, yeah
01:10:20Yep, I would imagine that and then hopefully yeah, alex austin's a bold and some of those guys
01:10:25Uh can get involved as well. And if you want to go see colt at patriots
