00:00Oh, hello there. I'm just trying to find my CBeebies Panto review. Have you seen it?
00:07It's behind me, you say? No, it's not. It's behind me, you say? No, it's not. Oh, it's
00:15beside me. Here it is. Hi, I'm technology and TV writer Matt Von Hickson, and I have
00:25watched the CBeebies Panto for 2024. It's Beauty and the Beast this year, and these
00:31are some reasons why your kids will love going to see it. Now, obviously, going to the pantomime
00:36is expensive. We're still in a cost-of-living crisis. Inflation is still pretty high, and
00:45so you might not be able to afford to take the family to the theatre this year. Well,
00:51the CBeebies Panto is live in cinemas right now in the UK, so you can go and watch that,
00:59and it might be a bit more affordable than going to the theatre. And if you have young
01:02kids who are CBeebies fans, they'll really, really love it. It's very much aimed at children,
01:09like it's very, very much aimed at young kids. It's very, you know, they know their target
01:13audience, they're aiming for it, they've hit it. It's, you know, older audiences like the
01:19parents and older siblings might not get as much from it as the little kids, but if you've
01:24got little CBeebies fans, they're going to absolutely adore it. It's really, really fun.
01:28It's a good take on the Beauty and the Beast. Oh, whoa! Wow, I think my camera was about
01:37to head off to the CBeebies Panto there. Now I'm a bit rattled, but let's continue. Oh,
01:46there are plenty of favourites from CBeebies. I personally haven't watched CBeebies in about
01:51two decades, I think, now, and I was too old for CBeebies when it launched, so I remember
01:58my brother watching Twinkies. Twinkies? Tweenies, not Twinkies. Twinkies are an American sweet,
02:04Tweenies, watching Tweenies. And that's about my memory of CBeebies, but there's Dodge T-Dog,
02:12who I think is like a Basil Brush replacement. He starts off the thing with a very good,
02:19fun bit that your kids will absolutely adore. There's plenty of other favourites. Mr Tumble
02:24steals the show, as I imagine Mr Tumble always does. Raven, so Jamie McKenzie, yeah, James
02:33McKenzie, he plays Raven, well, he played Raven for CBeebies, CBeebies C, back in the sort of
02:412000s. He's here as Snow Raven, the host of the show, and he's really brilliant. He's a really
02:48good host, and sort of really good at delivering exposition to get audiences to know what's going
02:54on, and works as a really good narrator, and he interacts well with Dodge T-Dog, which lets them
03:01sort of reaffirm the plot, so that if your kids are really little, and they're maybe not quite
03:06followed what's just happened, they can be reaffirmed, and they know what's going on.
03:11The sets and the effects are really, really good. Like, it's really magical. It does feel very
03:16Christmassy. The town, the castle of the beast, it's, yeah, it's really magical. And when Snow
03:24Raven does his little spells, and he shoots across the stage, it's really, really, it's magical.
03:30And yeah, it's just, your kids are going to absolutely love it. It's really fun. They'll
03:35laugh a lot. There's plenty of, um, they're behind you moments for them to interact with,
03:41and get enjoyment out of. And so yeah, if, if, if a trip to the theatre isn't on this year,
03:47for whatever reasons, it's well worth going and seeing CBeebies Panto, if you've got young kids.
