00:00Neither you or I like the Eraldus Chapman signing.
00:02No.
00:03Uh, bad guy.
00:04He's 100 years old.
00:05Old.
00:06Bad dude.
00:07Not great.
00:08And decent money for one year.
00:09Not great the last couple of years.
00:10I stand by all those things.
00:11The money, though, we were called to task for, and this is somewhat fair, I think.
00:15We complain about the Red Sox not spending money.
00:17Yes.
00:18And then they sign someone and we go, that guy stinks.
00:21We don't like that signing.
00:22Well, we're not going to like every signing.
00:23Okay, but also we specifically reference that's too much money for this guy.
00:27Now I personally, I personally think you can say they didn't really spend.
00:33This is a one year, $11 million signing.
00:35But are we being hypocrites by saying sign, sign, sign, spend, spend, spend.
00:39Then they sign somebody and spend and we go too much money.
00:42Is that it?
00:43Uh, so I don't think so.
00:45I think like every single contract isn't going to be great.
00:49See, there's a commitment to the team, like a commitment to the team and like a longterm
00:54commitment is one of these like mega deals, which they haven't signed in a long time.
00:57I mean, re-signing Devers, sure.
00:59But like a 12, 13 year deal to Soto or six plus years, let's say to like Corbin Burns
01:05or somebody like that.
01:06That is a big time commitment.
01:08They spent more money for Chris Sale to win the Cy Young somewhere else last year than
01:12they did on, on Chapman.
01:14We're just saying for a one-off guy who may or may not be your closer, that seems like
01:18a lot.
01:19And so if that takes away from some of your other big moves, I wouldn't love that.
01:22That's it.
01:23I just want them to spend.
01:24I do.
01:25I do.
01:26Yeah.
01:27If they signed Soto and Corbin Burns and then they spent $11 million on a role as Chapman,
01:28I won't care about the money aspect because they're just spending like crazy.
01:32But to be consistent, like we, neither one of us really wanted Blake Snell.
01:36So if they won the Blake Snell sweepstakes, I'm not going to be like, yay.
01:39I'd be like, really, is that the best use of your money?
01:42I would, that one, I would have applauded them for spending.
01:45I wouldn't have liked the signing.
01:46I would have nitpicked the signing.
01:47I think I would have applauded them for spending.
01:48But you're not going to like every player.
01:49Here's my point.
01:50If they have, this really is a criticism of them not spending.
01:53If they have 70 million to spend and they're not going to spend into the luxury tax.
01:58Okay.
01:59They have 70 million until they hit the CBT.
02:01Is this an indication?
02:02Number one, they're not going to spend big on Soto or Corbin Burns.
02:05They're going to spread it out.
02:07Yeah.
02:08And if you only have 70 million to spend because they refuse to go into the luxury tax.
02:12Now I need to criticize how you spend it.
02:14So I think we're okay there, but I understand the blowback saying they need to spend money
02:18and then we criticize the spending.
