00:00We're celebrating all of these incredible women today, especially Nicole Kidman being
00:04honored with the Sherri Lansing Leadership Award.
00:07How would you describe Nicole as both a friend, a colleague, a co-star, and a fellow woman
00:13in entertainment?
00:14Well, I am lucky that I get to say that with a lot more time than I know you have for me
00:21today in having the honor of paying tribute to her.
00:27But to sum it up, she is a true leader, and at this event particularly, a leader in support
00:34of women.
00:35She made the commitment in 2017 to work with female directors, and she's far surpassed
00:41her commitment.
00:44And she's incredible, and Jamie and I are producing a project with she and Per Sari,
00:48her producing partner.
00:50So seeing her up close as a producing partner has been amazing.
00:56You watch her being a true advocate and leader of protecting art, and making sure films and
01:02stories get told with the right group of people.
01:06Very protective of her directors, and she's extraordinary, and an amazing friend.
01:13She's a fierce advocate and an incredible partner.
01:15She's the most involved partner you could want, and like Laura, incredibly protective
01:21of the material and what we're aiming to do with the story, and couldn't ask for a better
01:27friend and partner.
01:28It's incredible.
01:29It's a gift to get to work with her.
01:32And of course we are celebrating how far we've come as women in entertainment too.
01:36What is one thing both of you would say to your younger selves about starting out as
01:40a woman in entertainment?
01:43I would say just when you think you've achieved a plateau, you may have to start all over
01:53again, and that's okay too, because if we've learned anything from the incredible leaders
02:00like Sherry Lansing and many others that have come before us, is that sometimes growth is
02:06cyclic, and evolution is cyclic, and we just have to be determined, as Stacey Abrams said,
02:16and be fiercely committed to protecting each other, lifting each other up, and telling
02:22stories that keep us connected to our humanity.
02:26I would say if you have an instinct, it's probably for a reason, and to look for the
02:31leaders that you feel embody those instincts and follow them.
