00:00The official that was accepted by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos
00:05is the original Murillo-Villarde 734 map, which is called the Mother of All Philippine Maps.
00:11The President also gave it the role of map in the territory and sovereignty of the Philippines.
00:17Details in the national news of Kenneth Paciente of PTV Manila.
00:22An important part of the Philippines' recognition
00:26That is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized
00:29along with his acceptance of the original Murillo-Villarde 1734 map,
00:33the Mapang Tinagorean, as the Mother of All Philippine Maps.
00:37The President also accepted First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos.
00:41According to the President, the map serves as an important proof
00:46of the deep roots of the history of the country.
00:49The map features details that go far beyond rivers and coastlines.
00:53There are depictions of indigenous Filipinos, mestizos, sangleyes,
00:58bustling ports, verdant rural landscapes as well.
01:02It is as if Murillo-Villarde, Sanchez, and Bagay sought to tell the world,
01:07yes, it is a collection of islands.
01:10But more than that, this is a nation.
01:14A nation that is in the making.
01:16But the President emphasized the role of the map
01:20in giving strength to the territory and sovereignty of the Philippines.
01:23This is especially true of the 270 maps that the country
01:27submitted to the Arbitral Tribunal in 2013
01:29that resulted in the country's victory
01:32in the 2016 Arbitral Award in the South China Sea in 2016.
01:36The 2016 Arbitral Award clarified maritime entitlements under UNCLOS,
01:42reinforcing our rights over resources within our exclusive economic zone
01:49and continental shelf.
01:51Today, we honor a foundation document
01:55that embodies the truth of our nation's maritime heritage.
01:59In addition to the executive branch,
02:01what started as a map of the Philippines during the time of the Spaniards
02:04became a strong evidence of our strengthening of rights.
02:09It reminds us that history, when taken care of,
02:12has a stronger power to give knowledge and uphold the truth.
02:18He emphasized the duty of the current generation
02:21to continue the legacy of the so-called map.
02:24Let us not only admire the artistry of the masterpiece presented to us today,
02:29but also draw inspiration from its enduring message,
02:33the call to protect and to assert what is rightfully ours.
02:37With resolve and with integrity,
02:40together, we hold a pen to write the next chapters of our nation's history,
02:46chapters that uphold the principles of justice, truth, and unity.
02:51Filipino technology entrepreneur Mel Velasco Villarde
02:55became the first woman to become president
02:58so that the so-called map can be placed under the government.
03:01Thank you, Madam First Lady.
03:04You embody the role of a true mother of the nation.
03:10Mr. President, your bold declaration,
03:15not an inch of our territory shall ever be lost,
03:21restored dignity to the highest office of the land,
03:26and united the nation in sovereignty and pride.
03:30Villarde bought the map at an auction in London in 2014
03:34and later donated it to the government.
03:36From PTV Manila,
03:38Kenneth Paciente, Balitang Pambansa.
