00:00PBOXX believes that the situation in Vulcan Canlaon could get worse following the explosion yesterday.
00:06This is the details of the national news report of ABIMALANDAIN of PTV Manila.
00:12PBOXX does not rule out the possibility that the situation in Vulcan Canlaon could get worse following the explosion yesterday.
00:19According to PBOXX Director, Teresito Bacolcol, this is stronger than the explosion in June this year and even in the past years.
00:28We are still not sure if it will get worse because we are on alert level 3 and anything.
00:32We may expect these things to escalate in the next few weeks.
00:37But of course, we are hoping that it won't.
00:39But we would expect that the possibility that this would escalate further is always there.
00:44Based on the ground deformation instrument of PBOXX, there was an eruption above the volcano.
00:50Along with the volcano that was erupted yesterday, there was a pyroclastic density current of PVC.
00:55This is what caused the volcanic ash, volcanic gases, and volcanic fragments to flow down the volcano.
01:02This is dangerous because it reached a speed of 100 kilometers per hour,
01:06which reached a distance of 3.5 kilometers from the crater of the volcano,
01:11which entered the 4-kilometer danger zone of Vulcan Canlaon.
01:15But that's the reason why we are raising the alert level because this may recur, this may happen again in the next few weeks.
01:23And maybe it will be even stronger, it will reach, it will exceed the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone.
01:29If there is an escalation of activities, we may extend the alert, the danger zone from 6 to say 8 or probably 10.
01:38The Office of the Civil Defense, Western Visayas continues to assist those affected by the eruption of the volcano.
01:45According to OCD Region 6 Director Raul Hernandez,
01:48their assessment of the affected local authorities continues.
01:52DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian was pleased.
01:55Task Force Canlaon and Interagency Coordinating Cell were also formed
02:00to address the needs of residents of DND and OCD.
02:04Residents of the 6-kilometer danger zone were also encouraged to evacuate.
02:09We have already evacuated the majority of our countrymen who are inside the 6-kilometer radius.
02:15There are only a few remaining because we are still lacking an evacuation center.
02:22So for now, that is what we are looking at now, how we can evacuate the remaining countrymen.
02:32OCD is ready to extend the 6-kilometer danger zone.
02:37That is what we are preparing for. If there is an expansion of the danger zone, it will reach 10 kilometers.
02:46We already have initial plans for that.
02:49We already have people who are willing to adapt to the evacuation of the affected countrymen.
02:57Meanwhile, Philippine Coast Guard ships are also on standby in Iloilo City
03:02that can be used for the distribution of family dens and mineral water to Negros Occidental.
03:09DSWD was also encouraged to receive immediate help from the families affected by the eruption of Volcano Canlaon.
03:17According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian,
03:20the government is ready to supply food, water, and other necessities to the evacuees
03:26according to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
03:29According to the latest report of DSWD,
03:322,000 families from 14 barangays were affected by the eruption of Volcano Canlaon.
03:381,192 families remain in 13 evacuation centers.
03:45DSWD also distributed P620,000 worth of aid including non-food and food items.
03:53From PTB, Abby Malanday for Balitang Pambansa.
