How much attention do you pay to school league tables, and do you think they reflect the quality of education? What do you think is more important in choosing a school—its place in the league tables or the overall environment and ethos?

00:00I don't really agree with league tables to be honest. I think they put too much pressure on parents to be in the right school and I think schools just need to be judged on merits and friendliness and the overall pastoral care of children in the schools.
00:19You've got companies like Ofsted and I think, although it's a great concept in principle, I think there's been some situations where things have not ended up in certain ways and unfortunately it's gone in quite a negative way.
00:33I work in schools. I think that there are many other things that they can be judged on and not necessarily league tables. I think they're detrimental really.
00:46I always preface that regardless of where you are, sometimes you've just dealt those hands right and you've just got to get your head down and crack on.
00:52I know that's not necessarily the most thoughtful advice but whether it's a school that's ranked right at the top or right at the bottom, a lot of people will flourish if they want it, they'll go out and get it.
