00:00Just last year you spoke about player trading and wanting to bring more young players in and developing assets.
00:06How often would you think you should be aiming to sell a player at a realistic target for a club?
00:14You're asking a manager that? I'd say never. Never, because you always want your best players, do you know what I mean?
00:19That's it, you want to bring in assets.
00:20It is for a club, but not for a manager. So, it's two things it's all about.
00:25The right way to run a football club is that, if that's how you want to increase your budget.
00:30It's not always the best way to win leagues or get promotions, do you know what I mean?
00:35You try and do both and I try and be open with Peter, with Craig, with the board about it and to get where we're going to be.
00:41I think to increase numbers in terms of the playing budget, we can do that, but then there's a right time to sell and there's a right time to move players on.
00:51For me, it's only when you've got that replacement. You've got that replacement, if you've not and it's going to harm your performances too much,
00:59then you don't do it, because ultimately we're a performance industry and what you do on the pitch can earn you far more money than selling a player.
01:09Do you think that kind of strategy is more for the summer than the upcoming window?
01:13Will you be looking for players to come in and play if you're bringing them in, Jamie?
01:17Yeah, players to come in and play. It's always players to come in and play.
01:21Just because someone tells you someone's a good player and they're a good age, it might not be a good player.
01:26You have to be able to see that there's a pathway into your team or how they play their certain position.
01:32It looks like they should be wearing a P&E shirt, you know?
01:36That's it and that's how you then make better decisions with the money you've got.
01:40We're looking at two number eights and we all agree that both of them are fantastic players, but they're different players.
01:46Well, do you know what? This player may be the cheapest, may be the youngest or whatever he is,
01:50but he's the one because that's the type of player we're missing in our team, for example.
01:54It's not to say that the other one's not a good player.
01:56So you have to really identify what you need and what attributes you're after.
