00:00Just spoken to Shrewsbury Town head coach Gareth Ainsworth ahead of the trip to Wigan this Saturday.
00:07The head coach was full of optimism as he usually is despite Shrewsbury's position and them losing the last three consecutive games.
00:16One of the topics in conversation was Jason McCarthy. The defender left Wickham this week and unsurprisingly after being signed multiple times by Gareth Ainsworth,
00:27he is somebody that has been linked with Shrewsbury. The manager confirmed that there is interest from the club in McCarthy,
00:36but then when asked if there had been any contact he said that if there had been then he wouldn't be telling the media.
00:42With regards to injuries, Shrewsbury have got a relatively clean bill of health going into the game at Wigan.
00:49Jason Coyote continues to make progress. The only slight doubt is on Carl Winchester, the Shrewsbury captain who did not feature last weekend.
00:58He has a knock. The hope is that he will train between now and the weekend and that he can be involved in some way, shape or form.
01:05It's no doubt been an incredibly difficult period for Shrewsbury as they continue to not pick up points and to be cut adrift at the bottom of the league table.
01:16That sits at 10 points now. The last two games, Ainsworth said, have probably been a bit closer than the scoreline has suggested when you look at the stats,
01:25but they are disappointing results nonetheless. Now and over the Christmas period he wants to see some solid performances from his team.
01:33He wants to see Shrewsbury try and get a clean sheet, try and tighten up at the back and obviously between now and May it goes really, really quickly.
01:43So they need to get some points on the board. With regards to January, he quizzed a lot about transfers.
01:51He said a lot of the stuff that he's said in previous times, but he has confirmed that he will need some reinforcements of some description now.
01:58He's had enough time to look at the squad, so some reinforcements will be coming through the door.
02:02How many? Well, that remains to be seen. We'll need to keep a close eye on that with Shrewsbury having lots of games over the next few weeks.
