The Rangers made several moves to get back into contention this weekend, trading longtime first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to Washington for reliever Robert Garcia. They then signed Lowe's replacement in DH Joc Pederson, a lefty batter who mashes right handed pitching. Mike Bacsik called in from vacation to break down both moves!

00:00I'm looking at it the other night going well son of a gun man I Nate Lowe if we
00:21compare him to Will Clark if we compare him to Raphael Palmeiro if we compare
00:24him to mark to sheriff we compare him to kind of former Ranger greats that were
00:28first baseman his numbers don't stack up tremendously well right but if you look
00:34at Nate Lowe compared to what first baseman do in today's game because it's
00:41really weird we've talked about this on how first baseman offensive numbers have
00:45gone down recently Nate Lowe is a very good hitting first baseman in the
00:52American League yeah Vladdy jr. way better there's certain guys that are
00:55better but he finishes top five in almost every statistical category from
01:00an offensive perspective at first base so I was surprised that Chris Young
01:06traded him but I didn't know he had jock Peterson up his sleeve okay and
01:10we'll get to jock in just a moment to Mike but when it comes to Nate Lowe that
01:15dude I will give him ton of credit a one World Series but be also was not known
01:21as a defensive first baseman when he got here and worked very hard on his defense
01:25and then on top of that was a very productive part at times for what turned
01:31out to be a World Series champion didn't he have like an 18 pitch at bat that
01:35really really took things the next level against Houston so I will give I'm gonna
01:39miss him it was nice to have him but I understood kind of the direction they
01:43were looking at there yeah he was a great personality to I mean we've got to
01:48know him in spring training I got to know him traveling with the team he's
01:52just he's a really fun loving guy he's a guy that probably keeps the clubhouse
01:56loose he's a guy that I know keeps the media loose he is a good personality and
02:02a good teammate and he will be missed but I think this goes to they didn't
02:08play 500 baseball last year I mean in the end in September they played better
02:13and I get it like people stopped paying attention they weren't in a race though
02:17Cowboys had started and I'm not asking people to pay attention to September
02:21baseball if the Rangers are dead and gone out of a playoff race and most
02:25people stop following it he had a nice September he improved his numbers but I
02:30think Chris Young looked at it like I talked about the other day and now Chris
02:35Young doesn't have a defending world champion he doesn't have a team that
02:39made it to the playoffs and I think Chris Young I'll compare it to a little
02:43bit of this the Philadelphia Eagles he's like I don't care what they did in 2023
02:49now that is I think to Chris Young I'm not gonna say completely dead and gone
02:54but he's changing the team we're seeing where he feels like he can change the
02:58team and he's changing to see team to see if it can be better than 2024 and
03:03not just relying on 2023
