00:00We will continue the internal operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines this
00:04holiday season.
00:05We will talk with Colonel Francel Margaret Padilla, the spokesperson of the AFP.
00:12Colonel Padilla, good morning and welcome to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:15Good morning to all of you.
00:17Good morning to all of our viewers.
00:19For now, what are the measures laid out by the Armed Forces of the Philippines to maintain
00:25security and peace during Christmas?
00:29Yes, ma'am.
00:31We are continuously coordinating with different law enforcement agencies.
00:35So, our PNP, our NBI, and other agencies.
00:39With the Yuletide season, our support to our law enforcement agencies is heightened
00:46to maintain peace and order.
00:48So, our members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines are there.
00:52We are manning checkpoints.
00:54We are helping in the security of buildings, bus stations, and malls.
01:00What are the requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines?
01:04We are there to provide support.
01:07There are people who monitor the security of the country during Christmas.
01:13Is that true, ma'am?
01:14And what is the AFP doing to prevent any threats?
01:18Generally, ma'am, we don't have any reports of threats that we need to monitor.
01:26But nonetheless, we are still on our toes, on the top of our toes.
01:31Because, of course, we want to celebrate the Yuletide season peacefully.
01:35So, we have dedicated soldiers.
01:39Of course, our sailors and airmen also, and our marines.
01:45Our features also continue to be manned in the West Philippine Sea.
01:49So, we will not let up.
01:50We will still be there to conduct our operations accordingly.
01:54So, the government will not stop firing on the CPP-NPA-NDF during the holiday season.
02:02What is the AFP doing regarding this, especially since it is their anniversary?
02:06Yes, ma'am.
02:07From the start of the year, we were given tall orders from our Commander-in-Chief,
02:11another very President, to finish the insurgency problem once and for all.
02:15And we are well within targets.
02:17So, within the year, from seven weekend guerrilla fronts, now we are down to one.
02:22And we are just waiting for this to be declared that they are gone.
02:27So, with that, our internal security operations will continue for us to maintain a just and lasting peace.
02:34Ma'am, for now, how many active guerrilla fronts are there in our country?
02:38And when can we expect that these will be completely eliminated?
02:43Technically, ma'am, there are zero active guerrilla fronts.
02:47What we are just waiting for, under process, is a one-weekend guerrilla front.
02:53Meaning, when they are weekend, this number is just a few.
02:57And they will not be able to launch a large operation.
03:01They will not be able to launch major operations.
03:07But nonetheless, we are looking at the possibility that these will still group up from different areas.
03:13Sometimes, even if it's just three, what they will do is just create chaos.
03:17So, this is what we are looking at.
03:19And the assurance of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we are ready in any eventuality, especially this Yuletide season.
03:27Because it cannot be avoided that the relatives of these guerrillas will recruit, even the dead ones, right?
03:34So, friends, neighbors, they are still together and they are still trying to recruit.
03:40So, what is the AFP's plan to stop this insurgency in the country?
03:44Not all of that, ma'am. Not only the AFP, but this is a whole-of-government approach.
03:49So, with other agencies, like our NTF-LCOC, our operations that we are doing this will continue.
03:56And we are giving them options to come back to the folds of the law.
04:00And let us together face a bigger challenge, which is our geopolitical tensions.
04:05So, as you can see in our reports, the largest number, other than those neutralized, is surrenderees.
04:13So, if we want them to return to the government, we have a lot of programs.
04:17We have ECLIP, we have the Barangay Development Program.
04:20So, they should avail of this.
04:22So, together, let's face a bigger challenge out there.
04:25Ma'am, in other talks, what are the efforts of the AFP to continue the activity of Vulcan Canlaon?
04:33Our different units in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we are on standby alert.
04:40Actually, ma'am, we already had different operations with our Air Force and, of course, our Army.
04:46So, the Air Force is flying them as long as it is flyable.
04:49We are delivering also goods to our displaced countrymen.
04:55So, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we are not only in defense, but also for humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
05:03So, the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Army received high trust and satisfaction ratings based on the fourth quarter survey of OCTA Research.
05:13What can the AFP say about this?
05:15Here, ma'am, we are very happy to hear this news.
05:19Actually, ma'am, eight out of ten Filipinos trust the Armed Forces of the Philippines
05:24and seven out of ten Filipinos are willing to fight with the AFP.
05:28So, this is a very good statistic.
05:30And hopefully, we will continue to see that our countrymen are supporting us.
05:36Actually, ma'am, the support of each member of our countrymen is actually the fuel that keeps us going in performing our mandate accordingly.
05:46Congratulations on that.
05:48Message to our countrymen this Christmas and New Year.
05:53To our countrymen, to all Filipinos, Merry Christmas to all of us.
05:59And I hope you remember our soldiers, our airmen, our sailors and marines who are not with their families at this time for you to enjoy this Yuletide season.
06:12So, we'd like to honor the heroism and sacrifice of our troops deployed all over, not just in the West Philippine Sea, but also with our internal security operations.
06:22So that we can continue to enjoy democracy and celebrate peacefully this Yuletide season.
06:32So, with all that said, let us all celebrate this Yuletide season peacefully as we move forward to 2025.
06:41So that we can attain a free, just and lasting peace and no more insurgency problems.
06:49So that we can focus on our territorial defense.
06:53Okay, thank you very much for your time.
06:55And Merry Christmas again, Col. Francois Margaret F. Padilla, the spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
07:01Thank you. Merry Christmas.
