00:00Jerry, you mentioned there that, uh, you know, after things have been eliminated, they still
00:19came out there and they played really hard. And I know you, you mentioned after the game
00:23that you and Mike McCarthy had spoken, uh, right after the news had become official that
00:29you guys had been eliminated and that it was just a, it was, it was a depressing conversation.
00:33You guys were both upset about it. What was that conversation like, uh, with, with Mike
00:36and, and how did you guys talk about the, the weeks ahead?
00:39Well, I think that, uh, just the, uh, reality, uh, had, uh, was there, it was, uh, uh, in
00:49the room, it was right there. We, uh, uh, weren't going to be able to advance into the
00:53playoffs. And, uh, uh, that's a primary goal of, uh, the team. And, uh, uh, when, uh, the
01:03reality of it soaked in, you mean there's no way there's not a 1% way, uh, that type
01:09of thinking. And, uh, I, uh, really was, uh, uh, it was just noted that you could cut it
01:17with a knife and our private conversation that we were having. And so, uh, uh, that's
01:23bucking up. Uh, but the big thing is it transferred over to those players and boy, they don't
01:29tell those players they weren't playing for a playoff game. They were out there as physical
01:33as I've seen us play, uh, gaining on it, exciting. And, uh, that's really a, uh, it's, it's
01:41really a, uh, a great sign here. Uh, I'll never forget. We won one football game, my
01:48first year in the NFL, 1989, one game. And I get a call and it's Al Davis and John Madden
01:55on the other end. And of course they were buddies and they, uh, uh, might have had a
02:01television personality to everybody, but they were real buddies. And Madden had coached
02:06early for Al Davis and the Raiders. And they said, we just wanted to call and tell you,
02:12boy, keep you to keep your head up. Don't get discouraged. Uh, you didn't lose the team,
02:18so to speak. And, um, I said, well, I said, guys, thank you for calling. I know what you're
02:24doing and I really appreciate it. I said, but guess what? I burned all my ships at sea.
02:31I can't go back. And so I have nothing left to do, but go forward and I'm going forward
02:37and I'm just excited about being in the future of the NFL. But, uh, that's the point is that,
02:44uh, it, it kept a level of, we're going to get better. We're going to give it everything
02:49we've got to get better. Uh, that's what that called me. That's when I got it from Al Davis
02:55and John Madden 30 something years ago.
