00:00:00Hard hat's all about showing up to play hard, doing what it takes to win.
00:00:08If you want to cement legacy, win another.
00:00:10He's your third center.
00:00:11You don't want to pump him up too much, but it's hard not to.
00:00:15This is maybe the most I've ever agreed with you.
00:00:18A lot of defense, so I don't think it's over.
00:00:24Joe Mazzullo at the podium, guys.
00:00:25Sorry we're late.
00:00:26We're going to listen in real quick.
00:00:27We'll take a look at game one.
00:00:29It was our offense this game.
00:00:30It was our defensive execution, so I don't see that correlation, but we definitely have
00:00:35to be better, both ends of the floor.
00:00:38Okay, but the shooting has been better before this recent stretch, right?
00:00:42I would say last game our offense let us down significantly.
00:00:46Would you say maybe the offense to start the season maybe hid some of the things that you've
00:00:50been kind of dealing with defensively, I should say?
00:00:54No, I don't think so.
00:00:55Like I said, Bobby said, our numbers are about the same last year.
00:00:58So over the 30 games I like where we're at, but I'll continue to say it, we have to be
00:01:03better.
00:01:04Joe, what's the balance with playing the numbers with Caleb and wanting him to maybe shoot
00:01:12those shots?
00:01:13Obviously he banks the one in, but then also maybe adjusting and saying, all right, you've
00:01:18seen him do this before in this place, and now you're guarding him.
00:01:21Well, it's great that you asked that question, because to answer Gary's question, who do
00:01:25you help off of?
00:01:26You know, and he made big time shots, but if you want to slow Maxine and be down, you
00:01:30have to bring the game to someone.
00:01:32You have to have good shift activity.
00:01:34I mean, I can't really shoot a nine threesy shot, I'll go back and look and see which
00:01:40ones were like heavily contested.
00:01:43But that's the catch 22 is to what good teams who are shooting the ball where they put you
00:01:47in a tough spot.
00:01:48And that's why it's important to take away the tendencies on a guy's right hand drive,
00:01:53take away the transition, don't turn the ball over, get good shots.
00:01:56So when you're in a situation where you're not taking care of some of those details,
00:02:00you know, it doesn't make up for the margin for error, and you know, he made shots.
00:02:04So like I said, I'd go back and look.
00:02:06I know there was one where we slipped and fell on a back cut, and he was wide open on
00:02:09that one.
00:02:10But the other ones I thought were pretty contested.
00:02:12Joe, you talk about 25 point carders, obviously, I mean, they scored 30, then 36, then you
00:02:18were able to hold them to 16.
00:02:20What did you see different in that third quarter that sort of, I mean, and then you
00:02:23guys went back to another 30 point quarter for the fourth, like, what was different in
00:02:26that one that you saw?
00:02:27We kept them on a transition.
00:02:29We kept it five on five.
00:02:30We were relatively physical, kept them off the free throw line, you know, just simple
00:02:35things go into, you know, having a great defensive quarter.
00:02:39Good.
00:02:40Thanks.
00:02:41Wait, you can hear me, right?
00:02:49I can hear you.
00:02:50And I'm happy to welcome Louise back to the show.
00:02:52Louise, you've been absent a little bit and don't think I haven't noticed because I have.
00:02:55She was, she was here on, on, okay.
00:02:58I've been absent.
00:02:59I don't even know what day it is.
00:03:00I've been absent, but I don't think you guys have noticed.
00:03:02But Jimmy Toscano is here.
00:03:03I'm here.
00:03:04It's Christmas.
00:03:05It's Christmas.
00:03:06I'm at home.
00:03:07I got the paper towels in the background like the old days.
00:03:11It's Christmas.
00:03:12It's Christmas time.
00:03:13I'm not, I'm not, I'm not in a festive mood, Jimmy.
00:03:16I'm not.
00:03:17I'm not, I'm not, you know me.
00:03:18I'm not going to let it happen, but are we drinking currently?
00:03:21No, I got a ginger ale.
00:03:25Have I earlier today?
00:03:26I had a couple.
00:03:27Yeah.
00:03:28I'm going to drink a little.
00:03:29I can go run a run upstairs and it's all right.
00:03:32I think, I think, I think yeah, I need that for me, but smooth you out.
00:03:38Look, you know me, you've been mad.
00:03:41You've been mad at me.
00:03:42I've been mad at you.
00:03:45I mean, you've been annoyed that I haven't gotten angrier at like, yeah, you know, that
00:03:54I'm keeping my emotions in check.
00:03:56I'm not overreacting and not raging.
00:04:00You know what makes me mad, Jimmy?
00:04:03Not what the Celtics do, but the excuses people make for the Celtics when they do those things.
00:04:10And I've been one of the people making those excuses.
00:04:12I'm starting to get a little tired of, I don't care if it's like one-offs and you can excuse
00:04:20it, but I do care when you just say it'll work itself out.
00:04:25When you see things that aren't going well and haven't been going well for a bit of time
00:04:29and just think it's just going to work out.
00:04:31Because right now, I definitely think we're not in full-blown panic mode, but we are in
00:04:37a, should we be worried mode?
00:04:40Like we're there, right?
00:04:42Like we're at the point where it's like, my thought is always like when the Celtics play
00:04:48their best game, it's better than everybody else's.
00:04:50One, I don't know that that's certain right now.
00:04:52And two, I just think they're not reaching, they're not hitting that level that often
00:04:57for a while now where they're just playing dynamite, start to finish basketball.
00:05:03I mean, Jalen Brown, great, he had a great third quarter.
00:05:08He was asleep in the first half, asleep.
00:05:12Tatum, for long stretches in this game, just dead asleep.
00:05:15Derek White, on and off, brutal.
00:05:18All game, guys you count on, I'm not picking on one guy.
00:05:21Pritchard was brutal.
00:05:22Derek White-
00:05:23Los Angeles, once he rolled his ankle, he was going at half speed.
00:05:28Can't blame him, but I mean, another guy.
00:05:30So yeah, so I'm now officially annoyed at, I don't know what's going on there, but like
00:05:40there's dips and declines.
00:05:42Yeah, Tatum, 33 points, dead asleep.
00:05:44Tatum was assed for huge periods of this game.
00:05:47We always let the box scores, yeah, you want me to go OG, I'll go OG.
00:05:51Stop looking at the box score.
00:05:52Brown, at the end of the day, he got his points, he had a big third quarter.
00:05:57Tatum got his points, he got hot from three at times.
00:06:00But just these huge periods, huge stretches of just, ugh, like I don't want to be here
00:06:07and just not working for it, standing around on defense, complaining nonstop.
00:06:12Just a lot of that.
00:06:13There was a lot of that today.
00:06:15This was a hard game to watch.
00:06:16If you're a fan of the Celtics, this was a hard team to watch and to like watching today.
00:06:20Yeah, other than like the cool green and red, like Christmas-
00:06:24I love the red.
00:06:25Christmas-y like uniform thing going on with the Celtics, I didn't like one single thing.
00:06:31If you went to the Celtics game today, you better do something quick to save Christmas
00:06:35because that was not enjoyable.
00:06:40They did their best to put a damper on things today.
00:06:42I'm not going to let them do it.
00:06:44Hopefully everybody had a chance to spend some time with friends and family today.
00:06:47If not, maybe tomorrow or whatever this week.
00:06:50But I'll tell you what, from the very start to this game, something was off.
00:06:55The Celtics were, I think lackluster is the word that comes to mind, on both ends of the
00:06:59court.
00:07:00Just, again, pretty similar to what we've seen on offense recently.
00:07:03A lot of three-pointers, not much inside.
00:07:06Defensively, Philly was pretty much doing whatever they wanted.
00:07:10Maxey was all over the place in that first quarter, completely like set the tone for
00:07:15the Sixers early on.
00:07:16They weren't really getting much of anything from any of their other players except Maxey.
00:07:21And then, the Celtics killer, Caleb Martin, who was a 7 of 9 from 3 tonight, he had big
00:07:26shot after big shot from them.
00:07:28They let Embiid do more than what I really wanted to see Embiid do.
00:07:32Embiid, to me, is getting softer and softer as the years go, but they just let him do
00:07:36too much tonight.
00:07:38I was very disappointed.
00:07:39Jalen Brown, you already talked about it, non-existent in the first half.
00:07:42Looked like he was playing in quicksand.
00:07:44He could barely make it out there.
00:07:49You kind of went down the line.
00:07:50Everybody but Al Horford really is on my naughty list today, John, in the spirit of Christmas.
00:07:56Al Horford makes the nice list, but not an enjoyable game.
00:08:00I'll tell you what.
00:08:01I got up a few times and just kind of like, you know, like at the holidays, like family
00:08:05and I just got up and like roamed around and just kind of like poked around.
00:08:08I just like, I can't wait to get up.
00:08:11Did you have a good Christmas?
00:08:12Yeah.
00:08:13Yeah.
00:08:14I had a good Christmas.
00:08:15I had a good Christmas.
00:08:16Nothing like crazy, but you know, Santa came and it was good.
00:08:19Yeah.
00:08:20You know.
00:08:21I had an awesome Christmas.
00:08:22It's still going on.
00:08:23I got, you know, I feel bad wasting my time talking about this awful performance.
00:08:29I got, you know, I could be having, I could have had a better Christmas this today, John.
00:08:33I think you can agree.
00:08:34We could have had a better Christmas if we didn't have to watch it.
00:08:37Yeah.
00:08:38And you know what, John?
00:08:39To your point.
00:08:40Yeah.
00:08:41I think it's, we're at the point where you can start to be annoyed.
00:08:44We're starting to do things on the show that reminds me of the annoying days.
00:08:46Like we played the blame pie last show.
00:08:49Oh, we're going to blame pie the crap out of this one.
00:08:51We had the, by the way, Noah, petrified of the blame pie.
00:08:54If you just show her a blame pie, she almost like melts on camera.
00:08:59We played panic meter a couple of games, like a couple of games ago.
00:09:02These are things that we used to do a lot when things were not going to sell this way.
00:09:06We didn't do it a lot last year cause we didn't have to, but now we're starting to do it a
00:09:10little bit more.
00:09:11I think the sellers are what, six and five in December.
00:09:15They're playing mediocre basketball right now.
00:09:17They're not playing mediocre teams to mediocre to bad teams, teams that are banged up teams
00:09:23that have not been playing well.
00:09:25Again, this Sixers team has not had anywhere near the start of this, of the year they wanted,
00:09:31but when they are all out there in the court, all healthy, all playing like with their lineup,
00:09:36I know that's kind of crazy to a crazy concept to the Sixers nation, but they're a lot better
00:09:43than what their record shows.
00:09:45And so this was one of the examples tonight where they just came out, whether it was Maxi,
00:09:49whether it was Martin, whether it was in beat, they didn't even get anything from Paul George
00:09:52tonight East Stonk.
00:09:55And they were still able to, they almost gave it away.
00:09:58They almost gave it away in the fourth.
00:09:59They were still able to build that double digit lead in the second half there.
00:10:02And they just play with more energy.
00:10:04There's no excuse for it.
00:10:05If you're the Boston Celtics, you're at home, it's Christmas, you're coming off a bad loss.
00:10:11Show out.
00:10:13Their last win against a team that entered competition.
00:10:15I believe this is correct.
00:10:17Their last win against a team that entered the night with a better than 500, not at 500
00:10:22better than 500 record exactly one month ago against the Clippers.
00:10:26Wow.
00:10:27And the Clippers are like fake good.
00:10:31They're not even really not good either.
00:10:33So right.
00:10:34So so yeah, a little, a little annoying, a little annoying.
00:10:38And like, it's, it's things when Noah comes on, just be like, and we're going, we're going
00:10:41to play.
00:10:42Yeah.
00:10:43All right.
00:10:44Time for blame pie.
00:10:45Let's bring in Noah.
00:10:47I forgot about the blame pie.
00:10:50We're not even going to ease into it.
00:10:51No.
00:10:52All right.
00:10:53You're up.
00:10:54We just went holiday blame pie.
00:10:57I'll tell you this before we get it.
00:10:59We're just, we're just messing with, you know, Merry Christmas, by the way.
00:11:03Happy Wednesday.
00:11:04Noah.
00:11:05Happy Wednesday.
00:11:06Christmas tree.
00:11:07Jimmy.
00:11:08So one game.
00:11:09I am.
00:11:10I got a tree.
00:11:11When?
00:11:12Because as of Monday, there was no yesterday.
00:11:13Wow.
00:11:14How did you get like heavy, heavy sale on the tree?
00:11:17I don't know.
00:11:18My parents got it.
00:11:19Did you guys decorate it?
00:11:20Is my audio?
00:11:21Okay.
00:11:22Yes.
00:11:23You sound great.
00:11:24Decorate it.
00:11:25Or is it just a tree?
00:11:26I'll send a photo.
00:11:27Okay.
00:11:28All right.
00:11:29I'll say it's Christmas then.
00:11:30I can say it then.
00:11:31As a slight, as a slight digression, my pie game is kind of like the Celtics Celtics overall
00:11:36game right now.
00:11:37I am.
00:11:38I'm, I'm searching for it a little bit right now.
00:11:40I've had two consecutive.
00:11:42What are you searching for?
00:11:43My pie game.
00:11:44Oh, really?
00:11:45Not playing pie.
00:11:46Like actual pie.
00:11:47No, my actual pie game.
00:11:48Did you, did you just go, you know, just hit him with the, with like the fastball pies
00:11:52that you do?
00:11:53I tried something different cause I wasn't happy with something that happened over Thanksgiving.
00:11:58And I think I went backwards.
00:11:59So I'm searching for it a little bit.
00:12:01I need, I need a little through handling.
00:12:03I gotta go back to the pie lab to pie school.
00:12:07Or you just gotta go back to what you like.
00:12:09Just get back in the layup line.
00:12:10You know, you gotta hit a couple of bunnies, you know, get back to the apple, get back
00:12:12to the cherry.
00:12:13Yeah.
00:12:14I get, I'm taking my own slice of blame pie anyway.
00:12:19Uh, Noah, let's, uh, let's just get your thoughts on this game.
00:12:22We haven't, we haven't gone too, too into specifics other than just to say, but, um,
00:12:31just kind of your main takeaway in this one.
00:12:33And, uh, you know, we just listened to Joe a little bit, you know, I, you know, defense
00:12:37obviously being an issue, uh, in this one throughout the game.
00:12:41And I don't know, just kind of your, your, your, your, your main takeaways for tonight
00:12:45or today.
00:12:46Lots of takeaways.
00:12:48So first this is the 76 for steam.
00:12:50I know Bobby and I, we've been joking about how we, Bobby and I, uh, picked Philadelphia
00:12:54or at least I picked Philadelphia as the biggest threat to Boston in the East.
00:12:57And this team today, I feel like you could see the pieces.
00:12:59You can see why they were scary to a lot of people because even though Paul George didn't
00:13:04really do much when Tyrese Maxey made the leap that he did, like he was a superstar
00:13:07today.
00:13:08He was, you know, maybe the best player on the floor, one of the best players on the
00:13:11floor for most of the game.
00:13:12And then in beat is clearly not a hundred percent health, but you know, still he's a
00:13:16powerhouse.
00:13:17Right.
00:13:18So first, my first thought is just this Philadelphia team.
00:13:20If they can figure out a way to stay healthy, I actually do think that they're, they're
00:13:24legit more so than maybe some of these other teams that we've been talking about, um, on
00:13:28the Celtics end, it was just a disappointing effort.
00:13:30I don't know that I've said that about any game so far this season, maybe, maybe Atlanta,
00:13:34but to come off a loss, to come off a stretch where you lost three of six games, I was just,
00:13:38I was surprised that the effort wasn't more consistent across the board, um, especially
00:13:42defensively, especially being Christmas, Christmas day on national television with all the buzz
00:13:47around it.
00:13:48And, you know, all the fan energy and everything, uh, Jalen Brown, I don't know what was going
00:13:51on in the first half, but that was a very, that was like an old Jalen Brown half.
00:13:55Like I haven't seen him play like that in a long time where just on both ends, he just
00:13:58seemed totally out of it.
00:13:59So I don't know.
00:14:00I don't, I think it was an effort thing more than anything.
00:14:03And Joe didn't say the word effort, but he did say, we've been playing inconsistent basketball,
00:14:07which is as far as he's going to go.
00:14:08So those words to me is like, that's, that's, that's Joe going as anti or as critical as
00:14:13he can possibly go.
00:14:14It's like an on and an off switch, you know, and, and it just, all of a sudden there's
00:14:18just nothing.
00:14:19And then other times you're just like, well, that was a great play or like, well, wow,
00:14:23there's Tatum, you know, um, you know, and, and then Brown obviously turning it on, you
00:14:27know, flipping that switch in the third quarter there.
00:14:29So you saw it, but yeah, inconsistent effort.
00:14:31I think the, the play that typifies the entire night, maybe above all else was that, uh,
00:14:36Tyrese maxi layup where they got smoked on the switch.
00:14:39That was so bad to me.
00:14:42And you could see the whole, there was a couple that really pissed me off one on one of like
00:14:46Caleb Bart.
00:14:47How many times did Caleb Martin catch a ball, stare, look around, say, no, one's going to
00:14:52guard me.
00:14:53Huh?
00:14:54Toe the line and shoot it.
00:14:55Joe made it sound like the Celtics were like caught in rotation and nah, they were just
00:14:59falling asleep.
00:15:00And there was one time where I think Derek white, this one, I, I, you know, I don't that
00:15:04rotation to me, white looked like he wanted to come back down into the paint and he was
00:15:09pointing to Katie to get out on the shooter, but it was clearly his switch.
00:15:14And he, he goes down and he's late and Martin drains at three and Joe calls a timeout.
00:15:18It was really pissed off.
00:15:19I think he barked something at Derek.
00:15:21There's what it looked like to me.
00:15:22There was a couple of those where it's just like, what are we doing here, guys?
00:15:26It was a lot of like buck passing, like, ah, you do it.
00:15:29You know?
00:15:30Yeah.
00:15:31And just falling asleep.
00:15:32But that, that play that, that maxi play to me was brutal and really just typified the
00:15:35whole night, which is just not focused in the moments where you absolutely needed to
00:15:39the most.
00:15:40I mean, not only did maxi blow by Pritchard who fell asleep on that, on the, on the, on
00:15:44the roll, but he, he caught the ball, stumbled and still got a shot off in 1.1 seconds, which
00:15:50was ridiculous.
00:15:51So I don't know.
00:15:52It's just, it was frustrating.
00:15:54It's frustrating.
00:15:55I guess the over the bigger question rather than like specific game stuff, Noah, and that's
00:15:58kind of, I think where people are going to be trying to figure out at what point is it
00:16:04okay to look at a recent body of work here and say, I don't like it, not just three or
00:16:09four losses.
00:16:10Cause I think overreacting to a small stretch of results is a little bit, you know, reactionary,
00:16:18but maybe taking a step back in a snapshot and looking at a few things, they're not defending
00:16:22consistently at an elite level.
00:16:24Doesn't mean they can't.
00:16:25They're not shooting consistently at an elite level.
00:16:27They're getting the shots up, but overall they're not shooting as they were.
00:16:31You're seeing, you know, cracks in the armor you didn't see last year.
00:16:35Some of it to do with health.
00:16:36Some of it due to maybe some players maybe look a little older than they looked last
00:16:40year or just not as able to do some of the same things.
00:16:43And when you add it all together, you have maybe not quite as invincible as last year
00:16:49and maybe not as invincible as we thought they would be entering this year or even at
00:16:55times during the season.
00:16:58I think it's fair to have those thoughts right now at this point, it's, you know, it's not
00:17:02one or two games.
00:17:03It's been a more, you know, it's been maybe a month of that.
00:17:05I haven't loved the basketball again.
00:17:08I still think this, these next few weeks at this Western conference road trip is going
00:17:11to answer a lot of questions about this team.
00:17:14But the thing that made last year seems so special beyond the fact that obviously everything
00:17:18was a good fit and guys had good individual seasons was that they were so hungry every
00:17:22single night.
00:17:23They were desperate.
00:17:24And you just can't really recreate that emotion in the NBA because the other team is always
00:17:28going to be hungry too.
00:17:29Like these are all great teams, right?
00:17:30Even if you're playing the worst team in the league, you're playing talented guys that
00:17:33on any given night can go off.
00:17:34And so I felt like this first half was a perfect example of them not being really desperate
00:17:39or they weren't playing hungry.
00:17:41They were like, there's plenty of things out there that, you know, I can point to from
00:17:45a statistical standpoint, you know, Drew Holliday obviously hasn't been shooting as well as
00:17:48last season.
00:17:49Jalen Brown, I don't think has been as consistent, you know, mid range as last year.
00:17:53But the main thing is just night in and night out there.
00:17:55It doesn't seem to me like they're playing as hard and it's probably because they just
00:17:59won a championship and it's really, really hard to emulate the embarrassment of the previous
00:18:02season.
00:18:03Yeah.
00:18:04And Joe, you know, good comment here by Joe echoing what you're saying is that's what
00:18:07it comes down to.
00:18:08Are we seeing them slipping?
00:18:09You know, maybe in the case of Holliday, maybe there is some, you know maybe a little bit
00:18:14of regression, but again, you're seeing improvements other places that should make up for any sort
00:18:18of slippage that you're getting.
00:18:19I think the easier thing to point out is consistent effort.
00:18:22And it's never an entire game.
00:18:24It's never an entire, the entire team or a player takes a whole game off.
00:18:29It's just stretches.
00:18:30They just kind of pick and choose when and where they want to do it.
00:18:35And it doesn't work that way because they have to stay connected in order to be successful.
00:18:39And when they're not, you see these sloppy runs like them just getting run off the court
00:18:44to start the fourth quarter with them beat on the bench.
00:18:46You can't, that can't happen.
00:18:48And that's, that's really where the game got away from them, right?
00:18:51Then in there where they did make a charge in the third quarter, decided they wanted
00:18:54to play a little bit and then they're like, so we're good.
00:18:57Right.
00:18:58And then that was it.
00:18:59They, they, they, they, they, they let the whole game get away from him right there.
00:19:04And the other thing is, John is ultimately in this game, they didn't have their two acquisitions
00:19:08that made last year's team different than the previous season.
00:19:11Like there was KP was not great in the first half, missed the second half again, which
00:19:15I'm sure you will talk about if we haven't yet.
00:19:18And then drew holiday out, which is something, something I don't think is super concerning,
00:19:21but ultimately like those two guys were so huge to last year's regular season success
00:19:25too, but you know, besides for the playoffs and now we're looking at a team that suddenly
00:19:28doesn't seem like as deep, you know, grabbing loop play critical minutes, you know, you're
00:19:33just, we're not seeing guys off the bench step up either.
00:19:36Yeah.
00:19:37I don't want to be mad on Christmas.
00:19:38I want to say Merry Christmas to everybody out there who's joining us on this holiday.
00:19:42It's also first day of Hanukkah out there.
00:19:45So many people might be celebrating holidays and I'm honestly do feel blessed that you're
00:19:49here watching.
00:19:50So we don't want to get too, too off the rails here and get, get crazy negative about it.
00:19:55And I'll thank you to Jason Tatum for throwing down a little Christmas gift here.
00:19:58Thank you very much.
00:19:59Super chats are shared by the host and we do appreciate it.
00:20:03And thank you all.
00:20:04As I said, again, for tuning in let's, let's talk KP a little bit because I think you want
00:20:11to talk, you want to talk, you know, panic.
00:20:21Where are we on the KP panic meter?
00:20:24I am a little bit, little bit worried at this point.
00:20:31What's your color?
00:20:34Where am I?
00:20:35Green, yellow, orange, red, maybe.
00:20:42I don't know.
00:20:43I don't, I don't like it at all.
00:20:44I mean, I mean, no, we've, we've talked about this multiple times.
00:20:51You're always worried every single time.
00:20:53You know, he steps on the court, it's like, you're just watching, like you're on eggshells.
00:20:58But now it's like, it's actually happening.
00:21:01Like, you know, it's, that's how I felt with Rob every single time Rob was out there.
00:21:03So he's going to get hurt right now.
00:21:05There it is up.
00:21:06He's out.
00:21:07I don't know what to think with KP.
00:21:08I'm almost expecting at this point just to see him pull up lame and hobble and then either
00:21:13try to gut it out and play through the game or not.
00:21:16It's happened.
00:21:17What?
00:21:18He's played 11 games.
00:21:19He's pulled up lame in like four of them.
00:21:21You know, three of them he exited and one he continued playing.
00:21:24I mean, that's a ridiculous percentage.
00:21:28Am I picking a color here?
00:21:33I'm just saying how, where are you now?
00:21:36I have no panic.
00:21:37No, no.
00:21:38It's not true.
00:21:39If people that know me in real life would be like, what are you talking about?
00:21:41But I, I think, you know, this particular injury, no, not concerned about the fact that
00:21:47he can't seem to stay healthy for multiple games in a row.
00:21:50Very concerned about it because ultimately we haven't seen him.
00:21:52We saw him miss the entire playoffs last season, green glasses on you.
00:21:56That's not cool.
00:21:57I think it was on it.
00:22:01So yeah, I am concerned about his just ability to stay on the floor.
00:22:05You kind of have to be.
00:22:06He's just, he hasn't shown, I think last season during the regular season was the most
00:22:10healthy that we've seen him on this team.
00:22:12And even then, you know, he missed games here and there.
00:22:14But since last year's the beginning of last year's playoffs, he hasn't been able to play
00:22:18a consistent stretch of a couple of games of basketball.
00:22:21And so they definitely want to be conservative with him, but it's also a tough one.
00:22:25It's like every other game he rolls something you want to just say, like, you got to push
00:22:28through it too.
00:22:29And it seems to always end up being that he can't push through it when they go back and
00:22:32evaluate him.
00:22:33So, so yeah, I'm concerned.
00:22:35It's just always something, something, it's always something.
00:22:38It's not always the same thing.
00:22:39It's not like re-injuring the same thing.
00:22:41It's just like, oh, today it's an, he rolled an ankle just like kind of randomly before
00:22:46that it was, you know, calf and it's knee and it's this, but it's, you know, typically
00:22:51lower body.
00:22:52But like every time you start- I'm orange, I'm Jimmy.
00:22:55Yeah.
00:22:56I'm orange.
00:22:57Every time you start to feel like he's rounding into form, there's like something that happens.
00:23:03And like, again, that's why you got him in the first place though, right?
00:23:07Because this is one of the things about him that's kind of hindered him throughout his
00:23:11career and the Celtics have been able to get by with it because of they've been so much,
00:23:17they've been so talented around him.
00:23:18If he was your number one or number two option, then you'd be effed, right?
00:23:22You can't really build a team around him, but he becomes a complimentary piece that
00:23:26can really, really take you to the next level when he's out there completely healthy.
00:23:30But when he's not, or when he's, you know, 75%, that's when you start to run into some
00:23:35issues.
00:23:36So I'm hopeful that this is just going to be a day-to-day thing.
00:23:39It seems like it will be, I mean, he played on it, but he played on it for, you know,
00:23:43the rest of the half, obviously it must've swollen up a little bit at halftime and they've
00:23:49said, you know, best to ice it and stay off of it, but you know, could miss the next game
00:23:54or whatever.
00:23:55I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm hopeful that it's not anything too crazy.
00:23:59But the point I think John's trying to make is the panic is not so much as injury.
00:24:04It's just like, what's next?
00:24:06Like what's the next thing going to be?
00:24:08When's it going to happen?
00:24:09And that's, is that going to put you in a position where you're looking at, you're looking
00:24:12down your bench at a bunch of players that you don't have any trust in going in the game.
00:24:16Cause right now your bench stinks.
00:24:17There's no other real word for it.
00:24:20I mean, John, you're muted, but Pritchard is the only guy that's given you anything
00:24:24off the bench.
00:24:25And right now he's not giving you anything.
00:24:27I'm saying if Horford's in the starting lineup where he has been most of this year due to
00:24:29injuries, your bench is pretty thin.
00:24:32And now, right now, Pritchard's going through a little bit of a shooting slump, Hauser's
00:24:35been injured.
00:24:36There's nobody after them.
00:24:38I mean, Cornette, give him, give him Cornette some props.
00:24:41He came in and he was serviceable today.
00:24:4210, 10 boards, you know, did his thing.
00:24:46But again, we said this last year, Cornette is not a guy you really want to see a lot
00:24:49in the playoffs.
00:24:50Same with Kata, right?
00:24:51And same with, you know, we're not even seeing Tillman.
00:24:53And then the other guys are borderline, not even in the league.
00:24:58So this is the reality.
00:25:00You're still muted, John.
00:25:02I was just agreeing with you.
00:25:03For me, it's not, you know, or kind of what, you know, you're both saying here, it's not
00:25:08panic as much as it is resignation.
00:25:09Like this might be what it is.
00:25:11And I think that that was the fear when you brought in a guy like Porzingis was exactly
00:25:16that.
00:25:17What if he's not there when you need him?
00:25:19What if he goes down?
00:25:20He exceeded expectations.
00:25:21Yeah, he did.
00:25:23But then he actually fulfilled them and he came back down.
00:25:26Yeah.
00:25:27With the games played.
00:25:28Yeah.
00:25:29And you ended up being able to overcome it.
00:25:31You know, I think, you know, the way that they're playing overall, I think it would
00:25:33be a little bit too limiting if you're not able to get him back to agree with what everyone
00:25:40else is saying.
00:25:41Nothing really matters if you, you know, it really all comes down to who's healthy in
00:25:45April.
00:25:46It's just based on what we're seeing with Porzingis.
00:25:48It's just, you know, start and stop and start and stop.
00:25:50So we'll see what it is.
00:25:52Joe Mazzullo, we heard earlier questioning the team and their consistency.
00:25:58Kind of a little bit of a jab, as Noah said, on the effort.
00:26:02We've got some sound from the locker room in response to what Joe said.
00:26:05Before we get to that and hear from Al Horford, we will let you know about a couple of our
00:26:11sponsors here, beginning with PrizePix.
00:26:14And if you haven't gotten in on the PrizePix action, you should.
00:26:18It's a best place to get real money sports action.
00:26:21Over 10 million members, billions of dollars in awarded winnings.
00:26:24PrizePix has made daily fantasy accessible to all.
00:26:27Pick more, pick less.
00:26:28At least two players shot to win up to a thousand times your cash.
00:26:32Is that a typo, Jimmy?
00:26:33No.
00:26:34A thousand.
00:26:35Run your game all season long on PrizePix, America's number one daily fantasy app and
00:26:39the official partner of the CLNS Media Network.
00:26:43And I love sitting down.
00:26:44I like playing.
00:26:45I like getting into the action.
00:26:46And yeah, I'm a little bit kind of in my football vibe right now.
00:26:50You want to see my picks, Jimmy?
00:26:52Yeah, I lost.
00:26:53I lost today.
00:26:54I made picks as well.
00:26:55Here's my selections right now.
00:26:58I joined Pixmas today.
00:27:00For the up game.
00:27:01And yeah, you can join Pixmas.
00:27:03I'm just looking ahead to Sunday.
00:27:04I like Drake.
00:27:06I like Antonio Gibson because Rashad's, Ramondre Stevenson is not touching the ball.
00:27:13This is a referendum on Ramondre.
00:27:15He is not touching the ball.
00:27:17I like JSN because he's on every fantasy team I have and he's just going to keep riding
00:27:22it.
00:27:23I'm also going 0.5 TDs.
00:27:24Yep.
00:27:25Sign me up for Drake.
00:27:26I like that right there.
00:27:27If you want to sign up and get in on the action, all you have to do is, you see it down here
00:27:32on the bottom of the screen.
00:27:34Pick more, pick less.
00:27:38That's it.
00:27:39Oh, sorry.
00:27:40Play five.
00:27:41Play five, get 50 instantly.
00:27:42Sorry.
00:27:43Use the promo code CLNS.
00:27:44Play five, get 50 instantly.
00:27:45You don't have to win.
00:27:46Pick more.
00:27:47Pick less.
00:27:48That's easy.
00:27:49Run your game on prize picks.
00:27:50Also, Jimmy.
00:27:51Oh, did you have something?
00:27:52I did Pixmas today, which is what they're calling it.
00:27:55And you get the free square of Jokic.
00:27:58All he's got to do is score a point.
00:28:00I just picked so many bad picks today where like that might be the only one I get right.
00:28:06And now I'm not sure Jokic might actually, like I feel bad for Nuggets fans.
00:28:10Like he may goose egg today just because I picked him.
00:28:12That's how bad my picks were.
00:28:13Yeah.
00:28:15Yeah.
00:28:16So anyway, we'll get some more on that later.
00:28:17We did mention the inconsistency here being a major, major issue in this game.
00:28:21And again, inconsistency is a nice way of Joe Mazzullo saying we didn't try.
00:28:25We didn't play hard.
00:28:26And Al Corford was told what Joe Mazzullo said in his postgame press conference.
00:28:30And here, I believe, is Al responding to that.
00:28:32Yeah.
00:28:33I mean, I think that's a fair criticism from him.
00:28:38You know, I just think that, you know, we have to really, you know, dive into our work
00:28:43a little more and understand that, you know, that we can relax during periods of the game
00:28:52no matter the circumstance.
00:28:53So, you know, we have to make sure that we're a little better.
00:28:59Okay.
00:29:00All right.
00:29:01Pretty, pretty cut and dry there.
00:29:04That's what he said.
00:29:06Noah's going to check out the rest of the press conferences and she'll be back.
00:29:11Noah's checking out more stuff.
00:29:12Yep.
00:29:13And we're here.
00:29:14Checking out more stuff.
00:29:15And this is us now.
00:29:16Two-man game.
00:29:17Yeah.
00:29:18I mean, Al Corford reacting to, you know, a pretty black and white statement that, I
00:29:21mean, that doesn't really require much.
00:29:23I mean, it is what it is.
00:29:25Anybody who watched the game saw the inconsistency.
00:29:27That's putting it nicely.
00:29:29Inconsistent effort.
00:29:30The problem with that is it's not very inconsistent.
00:29:32It's kind of consistently bad now.
00:29:34Right?
00:29:36It's consistently inconsistent.
00:29:37That's the thing.
00:29:38Consistently inconsistent.
00:29:41And the good news is it's not based on talent.
00:29:48These guys, we know what they're all capable of.
00:29:50We've seen it.
00:29:51We know when they're playing connected basketball that they're the best team in
00:29:54the NBA.
00:29:55The bad news is, can you get them, or I guess the question is, can you get them
00:30:02to tap back into that?
00:30:04Are we going through the winter doldrums of the season here?
00:30:09A team that already knows how good they are, what they kind of need to do to win,
00:30:15and it's like they already know that they can kind of get through these games,
00:30:20and once the playoffs come around, that's really all that matters.
00:30:23So, I don't know how much of it is them just choosing not to play that way or
00:30:28them just not being able to play that way.
00:30:30I feel like it's more choosing not to play that way, and I'm hopeful that at
00:30:34some point, they will play a full 48 minutes of basketball and not be forced
00:30:38to try to make these dramatic comebacks in the end of the game.
00:30:41This is why it's hard to repeat, right?
00:30:44Anytime you've done something at a certain level, I use this analogy, and I
00:30:47don't know if it's exactly apt, but I don't know if you play cards or go to
00:30:54casinos or anything like that, but you're playing nickel, dime,
00:30:59poker with your buddies, and it is, and it's fun, and you do it,
00:31:02and that's just what you do, and then you go to the casino,
00:31:05and all of a sudden, you're throwing down big bucks,
00:31:07and you're betting 50 and 100 and 150 a hand.
00:31:11It's really hard to go back and play nickel and dime poker and feel anything
00:31:15and get a sense that it matters.
00:31:18I get why teams have a difficult time repeating.
00:31:21You've played on the biggest stage.
00:31:22You put it all out there.
00:31:23You needed maximum effort and concentration just to get to that point
00:31:28and then to win it, and then once you do, there's this great catharsis,
00:31:31and you did it, especially the Celtics who'd been on the cusp
00:31:34and chasing it recently, but really, you're going to the conference finals
00:31:39or the finals every year.
00:31:40It's really hard to get up for games, and now that you finally won one,
00:31:43I get it, and that's why I'm always fine to excuse a thing or two.
00:31:48Bottom line is things just generally don't look as good this year.
00:31:52That's the overall concern is it happens.
00:31:56Look at the conversation around the Denver Nuggets in a year.
00:32:00They went from the champs to, well, the Celtics will beat anybody
00:32:05but Denver if they play them, to just because they had a one bad quarter
00:32:10against Minnesota because they win that series, and they beat Dallas,
00:32:13and then they go to the finals against the Celtics, and who knows what there,
00:32:16and who knows what they do against Boston.
00:32:18The Celtics might still win that.
00:32:20They could have gone back to back, but people killed them
00:32:22for a bad fourth quarter in the conference semis, and they're done.
00:32:27They're washed, and they found a million reasons why,
00:32:29but they were dragging ass at the end of last year.
00:32:31They really were.
00:32:32They were limping down the stretch.
00:32:34They didn't look like the same team either, and they didn't have
00:32:36that same level of focus.
00:32:38You were seeing results all over the place.
00:32:40You're like, they lost this game to that team, and everybody played.
00:32:43There was a lot of that, and so that's why it's hard,
00:32:46and they're a team that is one of those teams that does a lot of things
00:32:51the right way and plays basketball the right way,
00:32:53and their coach was killing them for inconsistent effort, and he still is.
00:32:56It's really hard to maintain that level of focus.
00:32:58That's why it's so hard to repeat.
00:33:00I'm not saying anything people don't know, but I think that's why
00:33:03that's the challenge.
00:33:05It's just tough to do it.
00:33:09I think they were tired and worn out by the end of last season too
00:33:12after playing as hard as they did the year prior.
00:33:15It's very, very difficult to win.
00:33:17It's even that much harder to win twice.
00:33:21There's going to be some tough, young, energetic, athletic teams
00:33:26that the Celtics are going to have to play in the playoffs,
00:33:28and they're going to have to match that, at the very least match that.
00:33:31The way they're playing right now, they are not going to be able
00:33:34to match that.
00:33:35They got bullied against the Magic.
00:33:37They got out-hustled or whatever you want to call it by the Bulls,
00:33:42two teams that they should have beaten, two undermanned teams,
00:33:46and then tonight they came out of the gates,
00:33:48and they didn't match the energy and the effort from the opposing team,
00:33:55again, the Sixers.
00:33:57Home court game on Christmas, there's really no excuse.
00:33:59I don't know how you have to really dig that deep,
00:34:01but whether it was Jalen Brown sluggish out of the gates,
00:34:06whether it was Pritchard, even Pritchard just looked off,
00:34:11passing up shots even too.
00:34:13I don't know what's going on with there,
00:34:15but Horford's really the only guy that came out ready to go,
00:34:18which you expect against the Sixers.
00:34:20He always does.
00:34:22But you just weren't getting anything from the other guys.
00:34:26And, yeah, they missed Porzingis, and they missed Holiday,
00:34:29two guys that Noah pointed out drastically changed the makeup
00:34:33of this team last year.
00:34:35And maybe they fall back into some bad habits when those faces
00:34:39and those types of players, Holiday especially,
00:34:42a guy who just always plays the right way.
00:34:44He's not hitting shots the way he was last year,
00:34:47but he still plays the game the right way,
00:34:49other than that one wild one where he had like 25 field goal attempts.
00:34:53He's still a guy that you can depend on,
00:34:57certainly on the defensive end,
00:34:59and typically he's going to make the right decision
00:35:01on the offensive side of things too.
00:35:03And so not having him out there today,
00:35:05you saw what Maxie was able to do today,
00:35:07not having a guy like Holiday out there.
00:35:09Maxie did whatever he wanted.
00:35:11So that was a big loss.
00:35:13I don't think anyone's worried about Holiday,
00:35:15little shoulder thing.
00:35:17Again, maybe they thought they could get by,
00:35:20but he's a guy that's had a long, you know,
00:35:24coming in this team last year, playing the way he did,
00:35:28expanded roles, big in the playoffs, going Team US Day.
00:35:33Now he's kind of, I don't know if he's a little tired or what it is,
00:35:36but he's not really the same guy.
00:35:38But he's a guy they're going to need to lean on at some point.
00:35:41Addressing a couple of comments here.
00:35:43I don't disagree on the Olympic thing.
00:35:45It's almost like you kind of hope your guys don't make the Olympics
00:35:49because you want them to have a clean summer
00:35:51where they can just chill.
00:35:52Because, again, you play in the finals, you go deep into June,
00:35:55and by the time you decompress and pull it all together,
00:35:57yeah, that was a long road for multiple guys.
00:36:01You've got three guys playing in the Olympics
00:36:03and one guy having surgery.
00:36:05Four out of your top six players are kind of not, you know,
00:36:09able to, you know, just kind of have a normal offseason.
00:36:14And that's that.
00:36:16Another comment in here talking about, you know, they'll be fine,
00:36:18they just need a blank.
00:36:20You know, in this case it was wing.
00:36:22You know, just this isn't a news flash, but there's no help coming.
00:36:26This is it.
00:36:27This is what you've got.
00:36:28And, again, this is why there's a little bit of concern.
00:36:31This is why we went a little bit over the top.
00:36:35But this is why we made an issue of Hauser's injuries
00:36:40and what he's dealing with right now.
00:36:43They have no wing depth.
00:36:44They're not going to get wing depth.
00:36:46They're not going to go get anything.
00:36:47They're not getting anything.
00:36:49They're not in a position to make trades.
00:36:51They're not in a position to get into the buyout market.
00:36:53They can't really bring in anybody of value.
00:36:56They can't anybody making more than mid-level money who gets let go
00:36:59or bought out, they can't bring them on.
00:37:01There's no help coming here.
00:37:03Short of the Lonnie Walker miracle that we're all hoping for at some point,
00:37:07that's the best caliber player that you're going to be able to get in this door.
00:37:10It's him or, like, O'Shea Brissett.
00:37:12That's not fixing things for you.
00:37:14So I wouldn't be looking elsewhere.
00:37:16This is all going to be internal.
00:37:18But that's why you look at these teeny little things that are happening.
00:37:21Shots aren't falling quite as well.
00:37:23Holiday doesn't look as good.
00:37:24Hauser's not – Hauser's hurt all the time,
00:37:28and you have no wing depth behind him.
00:37:30You really needed him in his minutes last year.
00:37:32You put Jordan Walsh out there for a minute today,
00:37:35and then you sat his ass down.
00:37:37You're going consistently double big now with Cornette to fill
00:37:41because he's your only reliable bench guy outside of Pritchard
00:37:44when you have Hauser out as well.
00:37:46You've got problems, and now you've got Porzingis in and out with injuries.
00:37:51Add that to overall not great, not a great shooting season overall
00:37:56from Jalen Brown, inconsistent.
00:37:58There's enough things happening right now where you add them all together,
00:38:01and it's like, yeah, it's less.
00:38:03It's not panic, but it's definitely less.
00:38:06It's definitely less.
00:38:08And there's no help on the way.
00:38:11That's it.
00:38:12That's it.
00:38:13But you know what?
00:38:14They need to help themselves.
00:38:16They have what it takes.
00:38:19And, again, they probably know that, and that's probably why they're just –
00:38:23And I agree with this.
00:38:24Walsh is unplayable against good teams.
00:38:27Walsh helps you in –
00:38:28He's just a guy that runs around.
00:38:30He does cardio.
00:38:31Walsh helps you in load management games against bad teams.
00:38:35That's it.
00:38:36It's a body.
00:38:37It's a body.
00:38:38It's Drew Peterson.
00:38:39It's a guy you throw out there,
00:38:41and you're good enough everywhere else to be able to withstand it.
00:38:44You cannot count on anybody else here.
00:38:48That's it.
00:38:51That's it.
00:38:52They need their own guys to come back.
00:38:53They need their guys to stay healthy because that's the best thing
00:38:57that can happen for them.
00:38:58And they haven't really been fully healthy this year, like one through eight,
00:39:03you know, because Porzingis missed so much time beginning.
00:39:06And now they've got guys that are kind of in and out here.
00:39:08Right now I'm not really sure how serious any of these things are,
00:39:12but, you know, you had White on and off the injury report.
00:39:19You got Holiday on and off.
00:39:20You got Hauser on and off.
00:39:22You know, Tatum's sick,
00:39:23so that's nothing really to be concerned about, Brown, whatever.
00:39:26But inconsistent, that's the word of the day.
00:39:32Yeah.
00:39:33That's the word of the day.
00:39:34And that's what you saw today.
00:39:35Yep.
00:39:36You know, and also you give a Sixers team that, you know,
00:39:39you really could have just,
00:39:40if they could have really just broke their spirits today,
00:39:42just beat the hell out of them,
00:39:44make them the laughingstock of the league on Christmas,
00:39:47but complete opposite.
00:39:48You know, you give a Sixers team a reason to say, hey,
00:39:51maybe we should feel the full lineup.
00:39:53Maybe we should all play a little bit more.
00:39:55We can actually be a decent team.
00:39:56We can actually give these guys a run.
00:39:58We just need to get out there on the court.
00:40:00When they do that,
00:40:01they're a lot better than what their record shows.
00:40:04And so, again, who knows?
00:40:06I mean, we're complaining about the Celtics players in and out of
00:40:08lineup, but nobody can complain more than the Sixers.
00:40:11But they might be the extreme example of this, John,
00:40:15just trying to get to the playoffs.
00:40:17Now, I don't think it's going to work out for him because I do think
00:40:19you need to have some continuity and you do need to be able to play
00:40:23extended time and, you know,
00:40:25majority of the games together to really get a feel for what you've got.
00:40:29So I don't know if that strategy is going to work for the Sixers,
00:40:31but on a night like tonight, it was enough.
00:40:37It was enough.
00:40:39We are waiting for guys to join the show,
00:40:43but they might not because they're waiting for people to speak at the
00:40:47podium and totally cool for the Celtics to just drag out the podium on
00:40:50Christmas with every hack reporter in there who wants to get home and
00:40:55have a frigging cold piece of prime rib.
00:41:01Pretty cool, guys.
00:41:03Get to the podium, talk, and let everybody go home.
00:41:07I can't do an hour and a half in this game.
00:41:09I can tell you that.
00:41:10I won't be doing that.
00:41:11Yeah, but I'm going to start ranting about my media gripes if it goes on
00:41:15longer than that because that always drives me insane.
00:41:18I know.
00:41:19I mean, I imagine the players want to go, right?
00:41:22Yeah, let's go, man.
00:41:24Let my people go, you know?
00:41:27Let them go.
00:41:29Get them out of there.
00:41:31Yeah.
00:41:32Goodness gracious.
00:41:33I want to get to some lighthearted Christmas talk with the kids,
00:41:36you know, because like Bobby and Noah, they're still kids.
00:41:39They probably got up.
00:41:40They get excited to see Santa today.
00:41:41Yeah, they were up early.
00:41:43I guess we're open by 6 a.m., I'm sure.
00:41:45Yeah.
00:41:46These guys, come on.
00:41:48Although, John, this isn't going to shock you.
00:41:50Noah did say on Monday that they don't celebrate Christmas in her house.
00:41:57That's okay.
00:41:58Similar to not celebrating Halloween.
00:42:00But she said once in a while, they'll just end up with a Christmas tree.
00:42:04Throw it out.
00:42:05That's cool.
00:42:06Sounds like this year, it sounds like they did.
00:42:07Yeah.
00:42:08So I don't know.
00:42:09I don't know what was under the tree, but.
00:42:13Yeah, I'll ask you, Jenny.
00:42:15Did Santa come to your house for your kids, John?
00:42:18Yeah.
00:42:19I mean, I got kids at a good age.
00:42:22It's still fun.
00:42:23Yeah.
00:42:24You do Elf on the Shelf?
00:42:25We do things.
00:42:27We do those calendars.
00:42:29Dude, I'm hearing Elf on the Shelf.
00:42:32If you're a parent that got stuck doing Elf on the Shelf,
00:42:34it's like the worst thing in the world.
00:42:36We don't do that.
00:42:37I guess, yeah.
00:42:38I think you're lucky.
00:42:40I've talked to some of my friends who are like,
00:42:42they're like, oh my God, like Elf on the Shelf is killing me.
00:42:45Like, I can't, my brain won't, my brain won't function.
00:42:49And like, I can't put this elf anywhere else.
00:42:52Yeah.
00:42:53I don't know.
00:42:54People at home probably know what I'm talking about, but.
00:42:56Yeah, no, I skipped it.
00:42:57I'm trying not to care, like, about that stuff.
00:43:02If your kids don't bring it up, then don't.
00:43:04No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:43:06They don't, they didn't.
00:43:09But I got one of my twins, no joke,
00:43:13legit reacts huge to everything.
00:43:17So she opens something up and just goes, oh my God.
00:43:22Just thinks that that's supposed to be the reaction, yeah.
00:43:24Yeah, and then she's like, what is it?
00:43:26It's like, but sometimes she's genuine, she's screaming.
00:43:30So they're pretty psyched right now.
00:43:31We got them a massive tent that they're in right now.
00:43:35Oh, that's awesome.
00:43:36Yeah, go to the tent.
00:43:37Go hang out in the tent.
00:43:38It's huge.
00:43:39It's awesome.
00:43:40Like for outdoors or is it like an indoor play tent?
00:43:43Yeah.
00:43:45What is it?
00:43:46Like what kind of tent are we talking about?
00:43:47Like made for the indoors or like for?
00:43:49No, it's an indoor tent.
00:43:50Okay, yeah.
00:43:51This thing wouldn't hold up to the elements.
00:43:54But it's like, it goes up like a tent, a pop-up tent.
00:43:56It's got these poles and everything.
00:43:57Yeah, I used to have one of those, absolutely.
00:43:59Bring some toys in there.
00:44:01Yeah.
00:44:02Double stuffed animals.
00:44:03It's legit.
00:44:04So yeah, no, it was good.
00:44:05It was good.
00:44:06We had, we got good, good times.
00:44:10I'll ask you a thing.
00:44:11What was your, what was your,
00:44:12we'll do a little Christmas talk here while we,
00:44:14while we filibuster and wait for the guys.
00:44:15Actually, we're going to get to Christmas presents in a little bit,
00:44:17in a little bit.
00:44:19Yeah.
00:44:20We do have to quickly tell everybody at home about game time right now.
00:44:25And if I just find it, there it is.
00:44:27Look at Jackson all over.
00:44:28And I got to say hats off to Jackson,
00:44:29Oliver and on it both working on Christmas here.
00:44:33And Jimmy,
00:44:36you and I have worked many holidays are, you know,
00:44:38in the past in this business, it just is a thing that you do,
00:44:41but it's always appreciated in the effort.
00:44:43And obviously Bobby and Noah are down there and all the, you know,
00:44:46Celtics reporters and it's, it's not, it's not awesome,
00:44:49but it is what it is.
00:44:51And you're a good team.
00:44:52You play on these big stages and everyone's got to show up.
00:44:55It would have been nice if the Celtics did as well,
00:44:57as far as game time goes.
00:44:59Awesome.
00:45:01You know, again, two past games left.
00:45:03You want to go catch your boy, Drake.
00:45:04Now is the best time to do it.
00:45:06Hold on one second, guys.
00:45:08I've got some screaming.
00:45:12Now's the best time to do it.
00:45:13Download the game time.
00:45:15Download that game time app.
00:45:17You got to do it.
00:45:18And I love it.
00:45:20I love the all in pricing.
00:45:21I love the seat view, the panoramic view chargers game.
00:45:24You can get into that bowl into the lower bowl for,
00:45:27for a little over a hundred all in right now or the last I looked,
00:45:31it's definitely worth it.
00:45:33So definitely.
00:45:34Yeah.
00:45:35That'd be a fun one.
00:45:37That'd be fun.
00:45:38Yeah.
00:45:40That'd be fun.
00:45:41Like still got the holidays going on, you know,
00:45:42get some friends together, get down there.
00:45:44Yeah.
00:45:45So check it out.
00:45:46If you want to go, you know, the drill by now,
00:45:48but if you haven't signed up, you should, you know,
00:45:50what I love on top of this, like I, you know,
00:45:53it's a sponsor on our show and it's great.
00:45:55I had someone to say to me the other day, you know, he's like, he's like,
00:45:59you know what?
00:46:00I've been using a lot.
00:46:01We were talking about going to a concert and he's like,
00:46:03you know what I've been using?
00:46:04He's like, you know, this app called game time.
00:46:05I was like, do I know game time?
00:46:07I was like, dude, CLNS, plug it in, make it happen.
00:46:13And, and, and he got it.
00:46:15So that's what you have to do.
00:46:16You download the app, use the code CLNS,
00:46:18$20 off your first purchased terms to apply once again,
00:46:21download the game time app, create an account,
00:46:23use the code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase terms do apply.
00:46:28Definitely worth it.
00:46:29Whether it's a game, whether it's a concert,
00:46:31whatever you want to get into tickets are tough to come by.
00:46:33This is the best way to go about it.
00:46:36Yeah.
00:46:37It's the best way to go about things around a little bit.
00:46:39Maybe, maybe go to these game.
00:46:41Yeah.
00:46:42Use that 20 bucks on, on, you know,
00:46:44I'm out.
00:46:45I'm out.
00:46:46I'm out right now on the bees.
00:46:47I am.
00:46:48We're going to pivot back to Christmas.
00:46:50I'll ask you here, Jimmy.
00:46:51And again,
00:46:52we wait to see if Bobby and Noah are coming on what's the best present you
00:46:55got.
00:46:56What's the best present you gave.
00:46:57Wow.
00:46:58Right on the spot.
00:46:59Best present I got.
00:47:01I had said this in the last show.
00:47:03So a lot of people know I, I do some,
00:47:06I do some part-time musicianing,
00:47:08sing and play guitar.
00:47:09I got a little pedal board for,
00:47:11I have a couple of pedals that go with my guitar,
00:47:13like a loop pedal,
00:47:14like a distortion type.
00:47:16Yeah.
00:47:19And the pedal board allows you to attach them,
00:47:21like kind of daisy chain them together and attach them to a board so that you
00:47:25don't have to like set up specific pedals.
00:47:27One pedal, one pedal.
00:47:28One.
00:47:29Yeah.
00:47:30Yeah.
00:47:31Yeah.
00:47:32You kind of, you can kind of bring them all attached.
00:47:33So I got that, which is something that I, that I asked for.
00:47:34Nice.
00:47:35Other than that, you know,
00:47:36a little custom odds and end stuff.
00:47:37It was more about who's around the tree than what's under the tree.
00:47:40John, you know,
00:47:41the people you spend it with and we,
00:47:42we exchanged gifts.
00:47:43I got some socks,
00:47:44Bobby got bought me and Bobby were talking about socks last show.
00:47:48I dig it.
00:47:49Some socks.
00:47:50I got some Jordan socks,
00:47:51like Jordan brand socks.
00:47:52Good quality,
00:47:53you know,
00:47:54neutral colors,
00:47:55nothing too crazy,
00:47:56but get the job done.
00:47:58Socks.
00:47:59Aren't going to like make or break Christmas,
00:48:02but you kind of need them,
00:48:04you know,
00:48:05a little bit of some workout gear,
00:48:08like,
00:48:09like,
00:48:10you know,
00:48:11shorts,
00:48:12things like that.
00:48:13Gym type gear,
00:48:14you know,
00:48:16stuff like that.
00:48:17I gave the best gifts.
00:48:19I gave,
00:48:20I got my mom,
00:48:21me,
00:48:22I got my mom,
00:48:26an iPad.
00:48:28Very nice.
00:48:29Can't really be everyone.
00:48:31Everyone,
00:48:32old people love iPads.
00:48:33iPads are great.
00:48:34Yeah,
00:48:35exactly.
00:48:36I mean,
00:48:37it's like,
00:48:38you don't want to be walking around with a clunky laptop.
00:48:39You know,
00:48:40sometimes the phone is too small,
00:48:41whatever you want to watch something,
00:48:42boom,
00:48:43iPad done.
00:48:44So,
00:48:45yep.
00:48:46Love that.
00:48:47Yeah.
00:48:48Love it.
00:48:49That was Christmas.
00:48:50That was Christmas.
00:48:51That's not bad.
00:48:52Some other stuff.
00:48:53What'd you get?
00:48:54You get anything?
00:48:55Uh,
00:48:56you know,
00:48:57some stuff.
00:48:58I got a cleaver.
00:48:59Not even sure what that is.
00:49:01Like a big meat cleaver.
00:49:03Oh yeah.
00:49:04Every,
00:49:05I get the same stuff.
00:49:06I get,
00:49:07I,
00:49:08I,
00:49:09I get like shirts.
00:49:10I get kitchen enhancements or,
00:49:11or whiskey.
00:49:12Like I got,
00:49:13I got a couple.
00:49:14It's the same thing all the time.
00:49:15I get food related things or booze related things.
00:49:17It's almost,
00:49:18it's almost it.
00:49:19Somebody has any papers,
00:49:20any papers,
00:49:21towels in my stockings.
00:49:22Frigging Bobby.
00:49:23Yep.
00:49:24And he's got some paper towels.
00:49:25Bobby,
00:49:26what's the best Christmas,
00:49:27Christmas present you got this year?
00:49:28Oh,
00:49:29there's some good stuff.
00:49:30Blenders.
00:49:31Great socks.
00:49:32I was hyping up the socks to Jimmy and get as many as I thought,
00:49:36but they were still good.
00:49:38Nonetheless.
00:49:39Uh,
00:49:40nothing crazy.
00:49:42Trying to think of some other stuff.
00:49:43Yeah.
00:49:44Mostly clothes.
00:49:47Bobby,
00:49:48where,
00:49:49where's the Santa hat that you said you were going to be wearing it to the
00:49:51game?
00:49:52He's frozen.
00:49:53Clearly frozen.
00:49:54I thought he was just really thinking.
00:49:56There he is.
00:49:57Yeah,
00:49:58he was.
00:49:59He's like,
00:50:00what was that thing?
00:50:01I got,
00:50:02he's frozen again.
00:50:03Damn it,
00:50:04Bobby.
00:50:05He's so frozen.
00:50:06I'm trying to think of something.
00:50:07I got a yoga mat,
00:50:08John.
00:50:09Oh,
00:50:10I'm getting really big into yoga.
00:50:11And so I got a,
00:50:13a yoga mat that's designed for heated yoga.
00:50:17So it's like good grip because hot yoga gets very sweaty and it can get
00:50:24slippery.
00:50:25So you don't want like a big,
00:50:26soft,
00:50:27slippery yoga mat.
00:50:28You want something with a little grip to it.
00:50:29So I got a yoga mat.
00:50:30I will be crushing core power yoga in 2025.
00:50:33Love it.
00:50:34Um,
00:50:35good.
00:50:36All right,
00:50:37Bobby quick takeaways here on the game.
00:50:38We were just kind of bullshitting here with the Christmas stuff.
00:50:40Are you worried?
00:50:44Have you hit it?
00:50:45Are you there?
00:50:46Are you there?
00:50:48Picture wifi.
00:50:49We should get Joe sway on.
00:50:52It's going to be like this.
00:50:53I don't get it.
00:50:56I'll just,
00:50:57I'll speak for Bobby.
00:50:58I already know.
00:50:59Bobby's worried.
00:51:00He's been,
00:51:01Bobby is worried.
00:51:02He is.
00:51:03And he's looking around the room.
00:51:04Other reporters wondering if people are there too,
00:51:06and they're not yet.
00:51:07But Bobby is,
00:51:09I think we're going to try it again.
00:51:10Nope.
00:51:12But Bobby definitely is.
00:51:13He's very critical of the way that they're playing defense,
00:51:16obviously.
00:51:17And Noah had mentioned it last show.
00:51:19The lack of ball movement.
00:51:22Is a,
00:51:23is a real indicator and a lack of assist,
00:51:25a lack of,
00:51:26um,
00:51:27when Hauser's playing his lack of shots is an indicator of how poor their
00:51:33offense is running right now.
00:51:34Bobby,
00:51:35can you ask me before you blink out again?
00:51:36Yeah,
00:51:37I got you.
00:51:38How worried are you?
00:51:39Bobby.
00:51:41Yeah,
00:51:42I'm concerned right now.
00:51:43And I did not like the game on Monday at all.
00:51:45I haven't liked the way this team's played for a week or two now.
00:51:48And tonight,
00:51:49another letdown,
00:51:50the energy,
00:51:51the effort,
00:51:52the focus,
00:51:53not there.
00:51:54The jump,
00:51:55you go down 14 in the first half.
00:51:56And then some similar second half lapses put you behind by 15.
00:52:00I don't know what was up with Jalen early in this game.
00:52:03And then into the second half,
00:52:04everybody's making mistakes.
00:52:06I,
00:52:07this wasn't an offensive game.
00:52:09I just heard you talking about that,
00:52:10Jimmy.
00:52:11I feel like the offense is pretty fine,
00:52:12especially producing 23s,
00:52:14but this defense,
00:52:15and this is why I asked you earlier,
00:52:17John,
00:52:18I don't think I got an answer.
00:52:20Does this season feel similar to 2023 or 2024?
00:52:25And it's,
00:52:26it's not 2023,
00:52:28but it is veering in that direction fast here.
00:52:31And some of the bumps and bumps and bruises,
00:52:34but a big part of it.
00:52:35And I know you guys probably listen to Joe off the top,
00:52:38but the defense,
00:52:40the numbers look good.
00:52:41And again,
00:52:42we had that conversation that whole year,
00:52:44and I know he kept pushing back on it,
00:52:45that the defense was fine.
00:52:46We're second in the league,
00:52:47blah,
00:52:48blah,
00:52:49blah.
00:52:50But that laughs at the end there,
00:52:51when you're coming back,
00:52:52when you've got all this momentum behind you,
00:52:53there's one on the shot clock and you just let Maxie go to the rim.
00:52:56And I was just talking to him about that.
00:52:58He said,
00:52:59yeah,
00:53:00I saw that wide open lane there and just took it.
00:53:01I unacceptable.
00:53:03I mean,
00:53:04how long are we going to let this team off the hook here?
00:53:07Like,
00:53:08it's not just malaise and boredom and whatever you want to say it is to
00:53:12excuse it.
00:53:13It's they're not playing well right now.
00:53:15They're not playing good defense.
00:53:17They're not,
00:53:18they're relying on the three to save them.
00:53:20It's just not a good effort from this team collectively right now.
00:53:23Yeah.
00:53:24I think it goes back closer to a month.
00:53:28And I think it's like,
00:53:30you know,
00:53:31as we said is there's enough,
00:53:32each game that they show you.
00:53:34And you're like,
00:53:35nah,
00:53:36I see they're there.
00:53:37That's that's,
00:53:38that's the team.
00:53:39I know I recognize those guys.
00:53:40There they are.
00:53:41And then there's just periods where they're not.
00:53:43So it's just,
00:53:44they are consistently inconsistent.
00:53:46And that's,
00:53:47what's kind of maddening is it's why it's why in comments,
00:53:50you'll see people be like,
00:53:51what are you talking about?
00:53:52This guy was good.
00:53:53Yeah,
00:53:54he was,
00:53:55there were stretches.
00:53:56He also stretches.
00:53:57He literally looked like he'd rather be anywhere else on the floor or
00:53:59totally not focused.
00:54:01And it's just not as connected as it was last year.
00:54:03There's just more lapses.
00:54:04The worst part is you're getting it from guys.
00:54:06You don't expect it as much from where like Tatum and Brown,
00:54:09you,
00:54:10they got the superstar up and downs,
00:54:12you know,
00:54:13they get those from time to time where it's superstars just kind of
00:54:15get into there,
00:54:16you know,
00:54:17thing where,
00:54:18ah,
00:54:19you know,
00:54:20I'll give it,
00:54:21I'll give it this much tonight,
00:54:22but you're getting sometimes from Derek white,
00:54:23you've seen,
00:54:24you know,
00:54:25some of the games that you haven't loved nearly as much.
00:54:27Um,
00:54:28and you know,
00:54:29I,
00:54:30Tatum's up there,
00:54:31John,
00:54:32do you want to go?
00:54:33Yeah,
00:54:34we'll,
00:54:35we'll hear from Tatum and his funny hat,
00:54:36and then we'll get back to it.
00:54:37Last few games.
00:54:38Um,
00:54:39and that's on,
00:54:40so on all of us individually,
00:54:41we gotta be better.
00:54:42Uh,
00:54:43and then,
00:54:44you know,
00:54:45it translates to,
00:54:46you know,
00:54:47us being better as a unit on defense.
00:54:48Um,
00:54:49it's just as simple as we,
00:54:50we,
00:54:51we just gotta be better as,
00:54:52as,
00:54:53as you're shooting,
00:54:54um,
00:54:55generally pretty good throughout the course of the season.
00:54:56Has that kind of like allowed you guys to lean on the offense and maybe not address some of these defensive habits?
00:55:03Uh,
00:55:04it shouldn't,
00:55:05you know,
00:55:06we've always hung our hat on being a really,
00:55:08really good defensive team,
00:55:10uh,
00:55:11that takes pride on that end of the ball.
00:55:13Um,
00:55:14and we gotta get back to that.
00:55:17Jason,
00:55:18you played 42 minutes today,
00:55:19despite the illness.
00:55:20How do you,
00:55:21how do you feel physically throughout this game?
00:55:23Can you take us through what happened before last game when you had a last minute scratch there?
00:55:27What did you,
00:55:28it seemed like just that you tried to warm up and just didn't feel like you had it.
00:55:31Yeah,
00:55:32uh,
00:55:33it was just,
00:55:34you know,
00:55:35a little virus,
00:55:3624 hour,
00:55:3748 hour bug.
00:55:38Um,
00:55:39you know,
00:55:40I felt fine the entire day,
00:55:41fine during warmups,
00:55:42and then it just hit me,
00:55:43um,
00:55:44you know,
00:55:45during our meeting right before the game.
00:55:46Um,
00:55:47and,
00:55:48you know,
00:55:49let's just say I just,
00:55:50I lost a lot of fluids over the last two days.
00:55:52So,
00:55:53um,
00:55:54you know,
00:55:55maybe we didn't need to know that fatigue,
00:55:57I guess,
00:55:58you know,
00:55:59from being sick the last few days,
00:56:00but,
00:56:01uh,
00:56:02there's definitely a little,
00:56:03you know,
00:56:04stomach thingy going around,
00:56:05just trying to push through it and catch my second win.
00:56:07Things like that.
00:56:08Jason,
00:56:09how do you get,
00:56:10uh,
00:56:11the team,
00:56:12get that fortitude back?
00:56:13It seemed like Max is cooking and then Martin's hitting threes.
00:56:17Like teams are kind of gashing you and like,
00:56:20you know,
00:56:21out hustling you for certain balls.
00:56:22And then there's just kind of the issues with the turnovers at times.
00:56:25Like,
00:56:26how do you kind of collectively get that swagger back?
00:56:29And it seems like you lost it a little bit this month.
00:56:31Yeah,
00:56:32I think,
00:56:33uh,
00:56:34we got to take some ownership.
00:56:35We,
00:56:36we got to be better.
00:56:37We got to acknowledge the things that,
00:56:38uh,
00:56:39we've done.
00:56:40Not that,
00:56:41you know,
00:56:42not so great.
00:56:43Uh,
00:56:44we got to look in the mirror and man up and we just got to be better.
00:56:47Uh,
00:56:48we fully believe in ourselves,
00:56:50you know,
00:56:51the things that we can do when we're fully locked in.
00:56:53Um,
00:56:54and we've done it time and time again.
00:56:56Uh,
00:56:57we just had some lapses recently.
00:56:59We just got to get back on track.
00:57:00Are you sensing,
00:57:01I mean,
00:57:02you didn't play the other night in Orlando,
00:57:03but they played a bunch of young guys and they came at you.
00:57:06And then Philadelphia is 10 and 17 and they still came.
00:57:10Teams are coming at you expectedly,
00:57:12but they don't seem to fear you.
00:57:14Like,
00:57:15are you seeing that teams are just,
00:57:16I don't know,
00:57:17getting up,
00:57:18but just like coming at you.
00:57:19They're,
00:57:20they're playing their best.
00:57:21I mean,
00:57:22are you sensing something different this year?
00:57:23Uh,
00:57:24no,
00:57:25I mean,
00:57:26I feel like,
00:57:27uh,
00:57:28you know,
00:57:29been three straight conference finals to five.
00:57:34I think that's all I can take.
00:57:35Uh,
00:57:36that's fine.
00:57:37No,
00:57:38there's nothing there.
00:57:39Yeah.
00:57:40They got to play better.
00:57:41They,
00:57:42they know what he acknowledges it.
00:57:43No,
00:57:44it's fine.
00:57:45I mean,
00:57:46I'm not,
00:57:47not,
00:57:48I mean,
00:57:49yeah,
00:57:50it feels a little bit more like the flip,
00:57:51the switch team than the,
00:57:52um,
00:57:53like the,
00:57:54the most impressive thing about last year's Celtics was that they never let it
00:57:59get to them.
00:58:00Like,
00:58:01right.
00:58:02Like they never got into bad stretches.
00:58:03It just didn't happen.
00:58:04Um,
00:58:05you know,
00:58:06I,
00:58:07they're in a little,
00:58:08they're not getting into a lot of them now,
00:58:09but they're,
00:58:10they're,
00:58:11they're in a,
00:58:12they're in a sustained funk and they've lost three or four.
00:58:13And so that's definitely not great here against inferior opponents.
00:58:17So,
00:58:18yeah,
00:58:19it's more on the,
00:58:20we know it's there when we want to,
00:58:22you know,
00:58:23low key,
00:58:24a comment from yesterday coming from a couple of days ago from Porzingis,
00:58:27which I liked a lot.
00:58:28Um,
00:58:29hold on one second.
00:58:30Hang on a split second guys.
00:58:33Yeah,
00:58:34I have,
00:58:35yeah,
00:58:36I was gonna,
00:58:37I was gonna say before you jumped in there,
00:58:38Jimmy,
00:58:39you,
00:58:40you got this stretch earlier in the year where they lose to Atlanta.
00:58:42Does that a bad overtime game against Brooklyn?
00:58:44They've gone through this already this season,
00:58:46right?
00:58:47Uh,
00:58:48and they corrected it pretty fast and they got back to being themselves for
00:58:50a decent amount of time there.
00:58:52Uh,
00:58:53but I think this marks two stretches pre early in the season here where
00:58:58they,
00:59:00they just expect it's going to be easy.
00:59:02And I don't know if the three point shooting contributes to that,
00:59:04John,
00:59:05that when there's zooming from three and they're hitting all those,
00:59:07you get used to it,
00:59:08you get addicted to it.
00:59:09You just assume they're going to fall.
00:59:11And,
00:59:12and Joe's Joe preaches that just keep shooting it and wait for it.
00:59:15And they just think if we just do that,
00:59:17it'll work.
00:59:18And the math has worked in their favor.
00:59:20The math is right now,
00:59:21the enemy of effort,
00:59:22because it's like,
00:59:23if we follow the system and the script and we just do this thing,
00:59:26eventually we're just going to out math this team to win this game.
00:59:29And it's just not happening consistently enough where it's not enough to
00:59:34save you.
00:59:35If you're,
00:59:36if you're having massive defensive lapses,
00:59:38you know,
00:59:39like they did throughout the game here and just falling asleep,
00:59:41you can't not do the other things too.
00:59:44It's not to just,
00:59:45they become reliant on threes as their offense.
00:59:48They become reliant on threes is the thing that's going to save them from,
00:59:51from shitty performances too.
00:59:54And that's not great.
00:59:55So it's definitely,
00:59:56like I said,
00:59:57closer to closer to what you said a couple of years ago,
00:59:59where there's more of like,
01:00:00and this is what I was getting to Porzingis said it low key last time.
01:00:04And it bothered me a little bit.
01:00:05He said,
01:00:06you know,
01:00:07this is the type of team that can do this type of stuff in the regular
01:00:09season.
01:00:10You know,
01:00:11like,
01:00:12you know,
01:00:13this,
01:00:14he used the word regular season to kind of almost like low key
01:00:16disparage Orlando for what they were doing for,
01:00:19for,
01:00:20for the performance.
01:00:21Like that was a good regular season win,
01:00:23meaning like they're not going to be there with us.
01:00:26And this isn't the type of thing you would see from us in April.
01:00:28It wasn't quite Tristan Thompson levels of flipping the switch.
01:00:31Yeah.
01:00:32Cause that was a bad Celtics team.
01:00:33Huh?
01:00:34Yeah.
01:00:35That was a bad team,
01:00:36but it was like a,
01:00:37yeah.
01:00:38Good hats off to those guys.
01:00:39They busted their asses to them.
01:00:41This matter to us.
01:00:42It didn't sort of vibe.
01:00:43Oh,
01:00:44we'll learn from this.
01:00:45It's good to see it.
01:00:46You know,
01:00:47good pat on the butt.
01:00:48Nice job sport.
01:00:49You know,
01:00:50it's like.
01:00:51No,
01:00:52that's your competitor in these.
01:00:53You're probably going to see.
01:00:54And they,
01:00:55and now it's a,
01:00:56it's the fear factor.
01:00:57And Gary was kind of getting around that question to Tatum.
01:00:59Like you think teams fear you less?
01:01:01Yeah,
01:01:02maybe.
01:01:03Well,
01:01:04I think the,
01:01:05the fact is,
01:01:06and I,
01:01:07you know,
01:01:08I've hated this before,
01:01:09John is there getting every team's best shot.
01:01:10Like teams are coming in and saying,
01:01:12let's knock off the champs here.
01:01:14Even bad teams.
01:01:15Like there's an opportunity for us to do something here,
01:01:17Jimmy.
01:01:18And I think you saw that in some of those Brooklyn,
01:01:20Atlanta type games early on the schedule,
01:01:22but you know,
01:01:23it's similar with Orlando.
01:01:24And I,
01:01:25I know you weren't here,
01:01:26John.
01:01:27I hated that game.
01:01:28And I know Joe said earlier tonight that he liked the defense in
01:01:30that game and how it saved them.
01:01:31But even in that one,
01:01:32that Orlando offense is so bad.
01:01:35I know they held them to one away in that game,
01:01:37But through all the mysteries and everything else that they went through in
01:01:40that game,
01:01:41being forced to take tough twos,
01:01:43you could have just strangled their offense and won a defensive rock
01:01:46fight and gotten out of there with a close win.
01:01:49And they just had too many lapses in that game as well.
01:01:52I like the Cole Anthony play where he's dribbling all around the world
01:01:55and a million others that you can point to from that game.
01:01:58So I don't care what their defensive rating is.
01:02:01I don't care what the analytics say,
01:02:02or,
01:02:03you know what the final numbers are coming out of these games.
01:02:06You see it in the individual lapses and big moments in big spots where one
01:02:11play could cost you the game.
01:02:12And I really do think that maxi play cost them a comeback win here.
01:02:16Like you have them there one second on the shot clock.
01:02:19He hits it with 0.2 on the clock.
01:02:22You have a stop there and it could be a whole different game.
01:02:24So this has to be a defensive team.
01:02:28I say it all the time.
01:02:29Last year,
01:02:30they figured out a way to come together and play with maximum effort on that
01:02:34end and intensity.
01:02:35And again,
01:02:36it's really the attention to detail.
01:02:37What are you doing on Martin in this game?
01:02:40Nothing.
01:02:42Like John,
01:02:44Joe made it sound like it was like,
01:02:46well,
01:02:47you know,
01:02:48we were rotating over,
01:02:49you know,
01:02:50and trying to help on players.
01:02:51No,
01:02:52enough with edging off guys.
01:02:53When they started catching fire,
01:02:54you just fell asleep.
01:02:55And I wasn't on the Orlando game,
01:02:56but that I'm sure you talked about it.
01:02:58That dagger three was Jalen hedging off of a guy for no fricking reason at
01:03:01all.
01:03:02A la the hardened Philly,
01:03:03you know,
01:03:04Philly.
01:03:05Everyone's blaming Al for taking that shot.
01:03:07No,
01:03:08Jesus.
01:03:09That was like ridiculous.
01:03:10Just stay home.
01:03:11What are you doing?
01:03:12But in this case,
01:03:13it wasn't,
01:03:14there was like,
01:03:15I pointed to one particular play where white didn't rotate over.
01:03:17Didn't go.
01:03:18Didn't,
01:03:19didn't pick up on a switch finger goes down to the basket and points
01:03:22to Kate at a rush out there.
01:03:24And then you,
01:03:25they could Joe calls a timeout.
01:03:26And you could tell Joe barked right at him.
01:03:28Like that's your guy.
01:03:29And it white looked exasperated,
01:03:31but it's like,
01:03:32it,
01:03:33there was a lot of that.
01:03:34There was just a lot of,
01:03:35just how much,
01:03:36how much do you feel like it's them not being the same shooting team,
01:03:38John and Mrs.
01:03:39Are hurting guys.
01:03:40I've heard so much,
01:03:41but I mean,
01:03:42the thing is like,
01:03:43what's funny is they're losing because of threes in there,
01:03:45but they're winning because of threes.
01:03:46Like that margin is the reason that they're winning.
01:03:48So even though their percentage is down,
01:03:50the fact that they're still leading the league in makes and attempts is a
01:03:53big deal.
01:03:55So the system is right,
01:03:56but one,
01:03:57they're too reliant on it.
01:03:59And that can kind of stunt other offensive things that you're trying to do.
01:04:03If all you're trying to do is jack them up and yeah,
01:04:05when they're not falling,
01:04:06you're almost just waiting for them to fall rather than it's a cliche,
01:04:10but like you win it,
01:04:12you start your offense by playing defense first.
01:04:15And like,
01:04:16we've seen this team and they take the opposite approach.
01:04:19Yeah.
01:04:20And we've seen them operate.
01:04:21And I don't think they,
01:04:22I don't think they think that they say it,
01:04:24but I don't think they think it.
01:04:25I think they think now we just got to do our thing.
01:04:27And when they start from just get the good looks,
01:04:29get the good looks.
01:04:30Yeah.
01:04:31I think Joe pilots that often you set your defense with what you do in
01:04:34offense,
01:04:35but sometimes I feel like it is the opposite.
01:04:37You got to just clamp down.
01:04:38You got to just pile up the stops and sometimes win some rock fights where
01:04:41you don't play at your best offensively.
01:04:43And they do sometimes in 2023.
01:04:45Yeah.
01:04:46And they did that that year at times.
01:04:47And they did it last year much more often,
01:04:50but I haven't seen it enough to begin this year.
01:04:52And now Porzingis and talks with the health.
01:04:54Again,
01:04:55are you back to having those room protection issues?
01:04:57If he can't go on certain games,
01:04:58like that's something that's actually studied them to a great degree on the
01:05:02defensive end.
01:05:03Since he got back,
01:05:04you got to play D out of,
01:05:05out of respect to everybody at home who has families and other things to do
01:05:09into Jimmy,
01:05:10we promised a short show and he's still got family and he's going to get
01:05:12back to it.
01:05:13And I've got mine waiting for me here to play with all these wonderful
01:05:15toys.
01:05:16Kids are not going to wait much longer.
01:05:18Yeah.
01:05:19They're freaking out to play with all these wonderful toys.
01:05:21We got for them.
01:05:22I got to get moving too.
01:05:23So we do have to wrap up this show.
01:05:25We did want to give it a good hour.
01:05:26And we do thank you guys.
01:05:27Noah and I are going to do something tomorrow.
01:05:30So we'll,
01:05:31we'll have more conversation.

01:05:53And as Bobby said,
01:05:55he and Noah might chop it up and talk a little bit more basketball tomorrow
01:05:58and dig down on what's actually ailing the Celtics until then have a good
01:06:02night.
01:06:03Peace.
01:06:04Peace.
01:06:05No one's sneaking a vegan brownie by me.
01:06:07I'll tell you.
01:06:08Okay.
01:06:09You know what,
01:06:10you have to feel that way too,
01:06:11Bobby.
01:06:12I have to feel that way.
01:06:13And make Luke your first center.
01:06:15Bobby,
01:06:16we gave you Luke our earlier.
01:06:17We're not going to end this on a damn conversation about Luke.
