00:00What's up, everyone?
00:27This is Noah Dalzell.
00:28I'm here with an off-day episode of You Got Boston back in my apartment in Boston after
00:35spending yesterday in New York covering Brooklyn Net's Boston Celtics at Barclays Center.
00:41So I'm going to try to do these on off days where we're not doing the Garden Report and
00:44when we can just kind of take a moment to reflect on how the last couple of days have
00:47been looking.
00:49So feel free, as always, to put your questions in the chat, and I'll talk a little bit about
00:52some things that I think are important or things that would be interesting for you guys
00:55all to hear about, including Christoph's Porzingis, which was my main takeaway from
01:01yesterday's game, as weird as that might sound, because he obviously didn't play.
01:05But he was really something, someone who really stood out to me, and it's who I kind of spend
01:09most of my post-game questions asking Missoula, Jill, and Brown about.
01:12So we'll talk more about Porzingis, we'll talk more about the Celtics, who start the
01:16season 10-3, and just observations so far from the first couple of weeks of the season.
01:23So it's still a very long road to go, but certainly I think we've learned quite a few
01:27things about this team that maybe we didn't know or we couldn't have expected.
01:31Peyton Pritchard, Nimesh Keda, even Jordan Walsh having a spot on the rotation early
01:36on, not something that I necessarily expected.
01:40So thanks to all of you for joining, thanks for those of you saying hello.
01:44It's always nice to see a lot of the familiar names in the chat, I'm starting to recognize
01:48all the names.
01:49That's been fun as I've kind of gotten acclimated to being on the Garden Report.
01:54So yeah, basically, the way this works is feel free to put in comments in the chat,
01:59I will just go through and answer literally all your questions.
02:02We're going to do a shorter episode today because it's my mom's birthday, so I'm going
02:06to her birthday dinner after this, so we'll keep this to 30 minutes.
02:10But just wanted to kind of update you all on what I learned from just being in Brooklyn.
02:14I was in Charlotte a couple weeks back as well.
02:18Those are the road trips I've been on so far, I'll be in DC next week.
02:20And I'm actually going to Maine this weekend for the first couple of Maine Celtics games.
02:25And so we'll hear, I'll have information and kind of just how Baylor Shireman looks, how
02:32Anton Watson looks, the other Celtics draft pick, and then just the other guys that are
02:36on the roster, J.D. Davison.
02:39Not sure if Drew Peterson will be in Maine, he's been mostly in Boston so far.
02:43But if there's anything in particular that you guys want to know or hear coming out of
02:47Maine, feel free to let me know because yeah, I think right now my plan is to just be talking
02:56to those guys.
02:57I'll be posting clips on Twitter and on Blue Sky as well, which I'm on both right now.
03:02And yeah, so feel free, again, to continue putting stuff in.
03:06I just want to make sure, is my mic, I'm hearing that my mic is maybe too loud.
03:11I can go farther.
03:13Can people hear me okay?
03:17Let me know if it's bad.
03:20Let me see.
03:23Okay.
03:24Okay, so I'm going to start with Porzingis, and then I'll go through your guys's questions.
03:32Even muted this full time.
03:33Haha.
03:35That's my biggest fear.
03:36That's the problem with doing a solo pod is that you really don't know if people can hear
03:39you.
03:40Okay, so starting with Porzingis.
03:44I was in Brooklyn yesterday.
03:45We're at Barclays Center, and we're tuned in watching warmups, Jalen Brown, Jason Tatum
03:51going through warmups.
03:52I'll just say off the bat, Barclays Center was the worst energy of any arena that I've
03:57been to.
03:58And I'll just say, I've only been covering the NBA for about a year, so there's arenas
04:02that I haven't been to yet that I'll see this year, and then maybe I'll get a better spot.
04:08But I've been to DC, I've been to Charlotte.
04:10I've been to Atlanta, a bunch of not necessarily the most well-regarded arenas.
04:16I think the problem was is because there are so many Celtics fans in New York that the
04:20prices just go up because there's a demand for people to go, and then next thing you
04:24know, the arena is filled with Celtics fans, and they weren't even the most passionate
04:28Celtics fans.
04:29I feel like they were just kind of casual fans that maybe from Boston or people that
04:32just wanted to see Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown play.
04:35And so, yeah, just really bad vibes in the arena throughout the game.
04:41I just thought it was very, very low energy.
04:43And then, obviously, after the game starts and Celtics fall behind by 10, we're all thinking,
04:49like, is this going to be another one of those games where the Celtics are trailing and this
04:54is a slow start?
04:55And they were able to overcome that and obviously ended up winning by like 30.
04:58So that slow start ended up not really having much of an impact, but I was surprised even
05:02early on that the crowd wasn't like, oh, we're up 10 on the defending champs, like, you know,
05:06going a little bit crazy.
05:07It really wasn't like that at all.
05:10And so, yeah, so that was just my initial takeaway from just being there.
05:13I've been to Berkley Center a bunch of times covering the New York Liberty, and it's night
05:17and day.
05:18The Liberty were just so, you know, drew much more passionate crowds.
05:23Granted, I was covering the playoffs, so, you know, WNBA Finals crowds are compared
05:27to just like a meaningless regular season game.
05:29But I was surprised just to see the energy in the building or lack thereof.
05:33But I'll tell you guys who did have energy, and that was Christoph Porzingis, who, you
05:39know, about an hour before tip-off, he comes out on the floor, which he's been doing more
05:42regularly as of late, and he comes on the floor and just does his usual pregame routine.
05:48So his form shooting, his three-point shooting, really deep threes as well.
05:53And then he just does like his little drills with the player development staff.
05:57So with the assistants, DJ McClay, who coached the Celtics Summer League team, he's one of
06:01the guys that works really closely with Christoph Porzingis as well.
06:06And yeah, he was doing a little bit of contact work with them, goes through his whole routine,
06:11you know, which is not unusual because he's been doing that all year.
06:15But I will say, I feel like there was, you know, a little bit of an extra pop as he was
06:21doing his warmup.
06:22Like he was, he dunked a couple times, he was moving a little bit quicker than I've
06:25seen.
06:27And then really what stood out to me was his energy during the game.
06:32So during the game, he's sitting on the bench, and I normally sit like, I have a kind of
06:37like a TV view of the court, but in away games, you're always sitting somewhere different.
06:40And where I was sitting this time, I had a perfect view of the bench, and specifically
06:43like a side view.
06:44So I mean, he was basically right in front of me the whole game, which is why it was
06:47on my mind.
06:49But he was nonstop, on his feet, every single, like literally every single time at break,
06:55he went onto the court and like grabbed the ball, tried to shoot.
06:59Every single time at break, he was talking to every single player, he was watching, and
07:02this is, he's been doing this for a while now, but he was looking at the clipboard and
07:05like watching play development or talking to guys that were subbing out, like as though
07:09he was about to check in.
07:10And I asked Jalen Brown about that post game.
07:14And he basically said, like, you know, this is great for us.
07:18He was very verbal today.
07:20He was super engaged.
07:21And it's a good signal.
07:22It's a good signal that he's coming back soon.
07:25And Joe Mazzullo also said that he's making good progress and just how important it is
07:28that it'll make the transition for him to come back a lot easier.
07:31So I wrote about that for Celtics blog, you can check that out.
07:34But yeah, basically, that was just like a, it was just an interesting side piece to the
07:39Cole kind of story is that Porzingis is like, he just has a different energy about him that
07:43he had a month ago.
07:44Like, almost like he's a couple weeks away from coming back.
07:47So I don't have anybody that told me that he's going to come back in the next few weeks.
07:51But I think initially, the timeline was December.
07:53Honestly, it's summer league when we talked to Brad Stevens, I thought that it might even
07:56be longer than that.
07:58Like, I was thinking maybe January, but he seems to be moving really well.
08:02And I think that it's going to be one of those things where we're going to be surprised.
08:05And all of a sudden, he's going to be back kind of sooner than we anticipate.
08:09And so I'm seeing some questions here on Porzingis, I hope you get your Porzingis jersey back
08:18from your ex, Chris.
08:20And again, I think we're all kind of guessing.
08:23I mean, I was looking at Sean's report and Sean's is like, I've heard that he might come
08:26back at this point, but maybe he won't and like, I don't think anybody has a definitive
08:30timeline.
08:31But I can just say, I haven't broached this topic so far this season, because I really
08:35didn't have any gut feeling about it.
08:36And after seeing him yesterday, both his warm ups and just his body language and engagement
08:40on the bench, and just the way that guys were talking about him post game, Peyton Pritchard
08:43talking about him, Jalen Brown, Missoula, you know, after that, I do think he'll be
08:48back sometime in December, and he might just be a few weeks away.
08:50And yeah, all of a sudden, we're going to get the Celtics PR notification that he's
08:53questionable for a game, or he's probable or he's doubtful, but not just out and we'll
08:59see.
09:00But obviously, like, the priority is going to be not just to make sure that that injury
09:02is recovered, but that his whole body is ready to go back for NBA basketball.
09:07And it's been a very physical season.
09:09It's something that Joe Missoula talked about yesterday.
09:11It's he thinks the game is in a really good place, but the league is very physical right
09:14now.
09:15And so, yeah, I think, you know, you want to make sure that he's prepared for that type
09:19of thing that he's prepared for, you know, just being being back and being able to raise
09:25contact and being able to, you know, you don't want him to get injured again.
09:28And certainly you've seen last year that a lot of times, like, I think the injuries somewhat
09:32spilled over.
09:33So we'll see.
09:36Um, also, I don't know.
09:39I see it, too, on my screen.
09:40I have no idea what that is.
09:42I'm like, so freaked out.
09:43I keep seeing on the screen.
09:44I don't know.
09:45Like, it looks like maybe like a bug or something.
09:49But I thought I was seeing it myself, so I'm just glad that somebody else noticed I didn't
09:54like clean just now.
09:55So it's not like dust.
09:56I don't know.
09:57I'll investigate after this.
09:59Um, OK, so let me just scroll through here.
10:02I just wanted to get that Porzingis comments in, and I posted a bunch of stuff on Twitter
10:05and on Blue Sky, depending on what you're on right now, what you're using.
10:09And I have videos of just his body language to the bench, talking to Namesh Keita, just
10:13kind of talking to the guys.
10:15And so feel free to if you want to, you know, watch those, you can watch those.
10:19And let me see.
10:20I'll actually put my Celtics blog article.
10:21I have a new computer, so I can actually look stuff up during the chat.
10:26This would make my computer crash.
10:27But if you want to read more about Porzingis and just like the way he's been impacting
10:32the team through the stretch, I just left a comment in the chat box with a link to that
10:37article.
10:38OK, and then I don't know if he's doing five on five runs of practice.
10:44One thing I'll say from covering the Celtics and just covering basketball over the last
10:48year and a half is that a lot of times I was always like, oh, why can't we get information?
10:53The reality is that we ask, look, what is that?
10:57It's so weird.
10:58Like, I see it on my screen.
11:02OK, I'm going to move.
11:03I'm going to just ignore it.
11:05OK, sorry.
11:06Sorry for the distraction.
11:09What was I saying?
11:10Porzingis.
11:10Yeah, we ask Joe Mazzola about injury status all the time.
11:13Like, we were trying to figure out if the Jalen Brown thing, was that a serious injury?
11:17You know, he missed four games with the hip flexor strain.
11:20I had no insight from asking him about it.
11:23Sam Houser's back thing.
11:24I asked Sam Houser, like, how's your back been?
11:26He literally just said, great.
11:28And it didn't, the way he said it, I didn't think it was great, but he said the word great.
11:31So that's the story.
11:33And so basically, yeah, like, I don't think we know exactly what, you know, what his status
11:38is of what he's been doing.
11:39Abby Chen asked yesterday to Joe, like, what's he like?
11:42And he said, he's making good progress.
11:44Like, that's all we have.
11:44So that's why I'm like trying to piece it together myself.
11:47I, before game five of the NBA finals last year, going through his warmups, like, I was
11:52doing one of these live shows from the, from the garden.
11:54And I remember saying to you guys, like, I remember saying, like, to whoever was on,
11:59maybe, probably, probably different people than who are on now.
12:01But like, I was like, he's going to play today.
12:03I could just see the way he was approaching his warmup.
12:05And like, he had been doing it over for a while.
12:06So my point being is, like, sometimes it's worth, it's worth just like us observing and
12:12chatting with people and just like watching their body language.
12:14He's traveled with the team all year.
12:15So just him traveling doesn't necessarily mean anything.
12:17But, but yeah.
12:20So in any case, that's the Porzingis comments.
12:24I'm just scrolling through.
12:28Okay.
12:28Jordan Walsh question.
12:29Is he playing himself out of the rotation?
12:32I don't think so.
12:32I think that there's not a long-term plan for Jordan Walsh to play significant minutes this
12:37season.
12:37He's still really young, still, you know, not a ton of experience under his belt.
12:41And I still think that he might spend some time in Maine.
12:43Like, that was initially where I expected him to be.
12:44And then obviously he jumped right in, but he was really kind of taking a larger role
12:49when Jalen Brown was out, when Sam Houser was out.
12:52So what we're seeing now with his more limited minutes, I think is more just a reflection
12:56of the fact that those two wings are available.
12:59And so that's what you want.
13:00You want Sam Houser and Jalen Brown.
13:01They do things that Jordan Walsh can't do, obviously, at least at this point in his career.
13:06And so he filled in really nicely for when those two guys were out.
13:09And, you know, in my view, like he did his job.
13:13He didn't cost them.
13:14He was able to play good defense and hustle and just do what they needed from him on the
13:19floor.
13:20And he's not a guy that's going to give you 10 points a night right now.
13:24Like, that's just not the reality of who Jordan Walsh is.
13:28But that being said, like, I think he was taking advantage of the opportunity in the
13:31sense that he earned those minutes over guys like Baylor Shireman, James Springer.
13:36And they trusted him.
13:38And, you know, I've asked around about it.
13:39Everybody's been really happy with his performance.
13:41I don't think that he was playing poorly.
13:42And that's why he's playing less now.
13:43I think it's more of a reflection of just the fact that Jalen Brown is back.
13:47Sam Hauser is back.
13:49And we'll see.
13:53Pete, I'm seeing that Celtics-Wizards game marketed a lot for Heritage tonight.
13:56I don't know anything about that.
13:57But I know that Porzingis still has really good relations in D.C.
14:01And when I was in D.C. last year, he was just the fans love him over there.
14:06So I'm sure the fans that are here or whatnot, they'll be happy to see him.
14:09I'll be in D.C. next week.
14:11We'll get some more.
14:12I'm sure he'll sign a bunch of autographs for people and things.
14:15But yeah, KP, I don't know the date of that.
14:18I think he's still a couple weeks away from coming back.
14:21I'll just be clear.
14:21But even so, I just think he's getting a lot closer.
14:25Probably he could play really soon.
14:26It's just a question of like, do they want to risk that?
14:31Question from Tom.
14:32What was your favorite part of covering the team in Brooklyn yesterday?
14:35It's a good question.
14:36Um, it was honestly a pretty cool game because it looked like it was going to be another one
14:43of those games where the Celtics just kind of starts low and maybe don't play with a lot of
14:49energy and force.
14:51I really loved the way Jason Tatum played yesterday.
14:54I feel like sometimes, not just on this channel, but like in general, the media covering the
14:58Celtics, like he can go under the radar a little bit just because he's Tatum.
15:01So there's not like a point to be made.
15:03Like everybody knows that he's their star.
15:05And I think in turn, he ends up becoming like underrated, almost like the same way that
15:08Derek White's almost not underrated anymore league wide because everybody knows how great
15:12he is.
15:12Like Tatum's kind of underrated in Boston.
15:15Maybe that's maybe that doesn't resonate for people.
15:17But yeah, he has been just he was phenomenal yesterday.
15:21I think that he had a really intentional approach to the game.
15:24He took six threes, made five and just got everybody involved, 10 assists.
15:31And then this is kind of funny, but he was one revenge more of a triple that one.
15:34He's not a guy that oftentimes gets or flirts with triple doubles.
15:36And so I would have thought like maybe he wants to stay out there just to get that.
15:41And I think Joe like asked him if he wanted to stay out there.
15:44That's what it looked like to me.
15:46And he was like, no, like the last few minutes, you know, the bench guy subbed in Ziver Tillman,
15:51Jordan Walsh who hit a three.
15:52So it was just cool to see because sometimes you can't see on TV, like exactly how those
15:56conversations happen.
15:57And he clearly was not stat chasing like whatsoever.
16:01I don't think there's anything wrong with like trying to get a triple double if it's late
16:03in the game and you're one, one rebound or one assist short.
16:07But even when he was one assist short, he took a shot with like three minutes to go
16:10because he was just like playing the right way and just doing what the defense was giving
16:13him.
16:14So that was cool to see.
16:15And I thought the post game, he was kind of more reflective and just, you could just
16:19tell these guys are not getting rattled by a loss.
16:21They're not getting rattled by even a really bad letdown loss that everybody else panics
16:27about.
16:27And I think the fan base is better off now than maybe people used to be because of the
16:31championship.
16:31But he talked post game about how like, you know, this is one of those things where he's
16:36been in the league for seven years, there's highs and lows and he's used to it and he's
16:39not going to overreact.
16:40And I think that's what makes him really special as a player and as a leader that he
16:44doesn't have, you know, he doesn't really like require someone telling him to calm down
16:49or, you know, whatever, like he, he can kind of keep his own.
16:52And I think sometimes it bothers people when he doesn't get fired up at the podium when
16:54they want him to.
16:55But I think for the most part, it's why he's able to respond to adversity, like the Hawks
16:59loss and come out and dominate the game the way he did yesterday.
17:04And yeah, please like, like, subscribe.
17:06If you're watching this on CLNS, you can subscribe to my channel.
17:09It's YouGotBoston.
17:11If you're watching this on my channel, you can also subscribe to CLNS where I do post
17:15game show after every game that I'm sure a lot of you guys are, I'm recognizing these
17:18names, a lot of you guys tune into that as well.
17:20But yeah, like, subscribe, comment, share.
17:23I'm trying to do these on off days because I'm doing the show during game day.
17:27So today was a good day to do it.
17:29And I'll do something from Maine too this weekend.
17:33Okay, let's take a quick break.
17:35I'm just gonna just a message over from our friends over at GameTime.
17:39We've talked a lot about GameTime, but GameTime is the, in my opinion, honestly, the best
17:44way to get tickets for any event that you want to go to, concerts, shows, not just sports.
17:49It's my mom's birthday today.
17:50I mentioned that earlier.
17:51I'm going to dinner for her soon.
17:52And right after the show ends, I'm going to scroll through GameTime and figure out what
17:55event I want to get her tickets to, because it's really the best way to get tickets to
17:58see your favorite teams play, to do whatever else you want to do.
18:01My mom's not a huge Celtics fan, so I probably won't get her Celtics tickets.
18:04But if it was my dad or my sister, my brother, automatic gift, Celtics tickets on GameTime.
18:10So all you have to do is pick an upcoming game on the app, browse through seats on GameTime
18:13picks, you can see exactly what the court looks like from that seat, which really helps.
18:18So if you want to get tickets and you want to see, you want to see what the angle is
18:22going to be based off of like where the basket is.
18:24I'm really particular about where I sit, which is sometimes why I don't love my media
18:27seats because I don't like sitting behind the basket.

19:15Okay, continuing to scroll through here.
19:18And by the way, I'm continuing to see whatever it is in my room, like floating around.
19:22So I'm really curious.
19:23I'm going to look forward to investigating this.
19:26I don't know if there's like a scientific answer that I'm missing.
19:28But and I don't usually believe in ghosts, but who knows?
19:37Who knows?
19:39And thank you, Tom.
19:40I appreciate that.
19:40Yeah, I'm still doing Celtics coverage on Celtics blog.
19:43And then also you can catch my WMB coverage on SBNation.com.
19:46So feel free to check both of those things out.
19:48And then obviously we do a post game show here on CLNS.
19:52Uh, let's talk about Lonnie Walker, because Lonnie Walker for a long time was,
19:57he was the most popular name in the house.
19:59I feel like everybody liked talking about him.
20:00There was just so much interest.
20:02And everybody wanted him in Boston.
20:04And obviously he didn't get signed.
20:06And the thing, the most maybe revealing thing is that he didn't get signed by anybody
20:11and headed overseas where he's playing in Lithuania, struggled in his first game.
20:16And for those of you that are online, you know, NBA Central,
20:19which is one of the big aggregate accounts that kind of just like looks for engagement,
20:24no shade to NBA Central.
20:25But they posted a sad line where he was 0 for 9 from the field
20:28and people were kind of trolling him.
20:29Like he's in the early and he's struggling.
20:33And I think what I would say to that is, first of all,
20:34like you can struggle literally any level of basketball,
20:37because if your shot's off, like it's not going to go in.
20:40But he has played better since.
20:41He's had a couple of good performances here.
20:43And I don't know if he'll be back in the NBA or not.
20:45I think one of the things that I learned early on doing this career is that
20:49it's really hard to leave overseas and come back to the NBA.
20:53I mean, obviously, Yabu Selly is a great example.
20:55He's been really doing well over in Philadelphia.
20:58But I interviewed Jared Sonder.
20:59He was one of my first like player interviews that I did.
21:01And that's something that he told me is that he went overseas, like to China.
21:04And, you know, he's been great over there.
21:06He's actually, he said he's like a lot better physically
21:07and he's a much better shooter than he was when he was in the NBA.
21:10But it's like you're almost put in a box of like you're an overseas player now.
21:14And so I hope for Lonnie Walker that if his dream is to go back to the NBA,
21:17that he's able to do that.
21:19But that being said, like, I don't think that things are going to regret letting him go
21:22because I don't think that he would have played in the playoffs.
21:25And right now, like, I'm comfortable with the depth that they have.
21:28It's not perfect.
21:29There are definitely moments where I'm like, OK,
21:31Lonnie Walker would be useful here off the bench right now.
21:33When John Brown was out for four games,
21:35and I didn't know if that was going to be like a longer term thing.
21:37I was thinking to myself, you know, maybe this is something that,
21:39you know, would have been good to, you know, would have been a good guy to have.
21:43But I think ultimately, like we're talking something so negligible
21:46in the rotation that it's probably fine.
21:48And there are also guys like there is an advantage in having Jordan Walsh.
21:52Like, yeah, like this person said, you know,
21:54you need to gamble on young guys like Walsh.
21:55And like at the end of the day, you know,
21:58Lonnie Walker would have taken minutes away from some of those younger guys.
22:00And so even if you are more, even if you're not super high on these guys,
22:05like it's, you know, you want to give them a chance, the guys you drafted.
22:07So I think it'll be fine.
22:10And Tom, good observation.
22:11I did think that Walsh had some good fourth quarter impacts.
22:15So we'll see.
22:17Yeah, we'll see how he's able to kind of pan out over the coming weeks,
22:21over the coming months.
22:23If he gets more minutes, if he goes back to Maine.
22:25I did a story on him a couple weeks ago for Celtics blog,
22:27where I talked more about just like his mindset and his approach.
22:29I think he's really kind of looked at it as like, why not me?
22:32Like I can go and grab some of these minutes.
22:33And I don't think he expected it to happen this early in his career,
22:36but he's been really happy with the way things have panned out.
22:39And so Lonnie Walker, yeah, maybe there's going to be a moment this season
22:43where they're really shorthanded and we're all kind of thinking it.
22:45But I think in the scheme of things,
22:46like that's not going to be the reason why they do or don't win the championship.
22:49And that's probably what the front office ultimately landed on
22:51when they decided not to offer him a contract.
22:55James Springer, meanwhile, I see him mentioned a couple of times here.
22:58He is, you know, he has really not played at all.
23:02And I was pretty excited about him entering the season.
23:04And I honestly don't know like what exactly he's been looking like behind the scenes
23:09that has compelled him to really be completely out of the rotation.
23:12I will say he's missed the last few games with right knee pain, tendonitis.
23:17And so he's been doing his warmups.
23:19I don't think it's anything super serious, but he's been on the injury report.
23:22So if you're wondering, like,
23:23why is he not even playing in garbage time or late game minutes?
23:26Peyton Burchell told us last year not to use the word garbage time.
23:28So I'm going to try to get that out of my vocabulary when describing minutes.
23:33But yeah, I think that he's a guy that everybody's kind of curious about
23:37if there is a trade at some point,
23:38like I wouldn't be shocked if he got traded
23:40just because he's really not playing at all.
23:42And it doesn't seem like he's really inching towards playing,
23:44but we'll see.
23:46And we'll see.
23:46I don't know if there's anything is anything more substantive.
23:51Oh, this is a fun question.
23:52Who do you think is better?
23:53Camp Thomas or Peyton Pritchard?
23:59This is tough for me.
24:01I'm going to say Peyton Pritchard.
24:03I think Camp Thomas obviously right now is accomplishing more on the floor,
24:06just as a really high volume score.
24:08Pritchard to me feels like just a really well-rounded player
24:11that is kind of ready for a larger role.
24:13And we're seeing it right now when he had 23 points,
24:15eight assists, six rebounds last night.
24:18And then, sorry, I'm overcoming a cold.
24:22So I'm trying not to cough.
24:24And so, yeah, I think he's a guy that right now is just more well-rounded.
24:28Camp Thomas' scoring abilities are definitely more proven than Pritchard's right now.
24:33Maybe this is like my goggles of being a huge Pritchard enthusiast
24:38and someone who's been really high on his game for a long time.
24:39So maybe I'm a little bit biased here.
24:42Probably I am.
24:43But I would pick Pritchard right now over Camp Thomas if I had to pick,
24:46if I'm assembling a roster,
24:48because I just think he makes the guys around him better.
24:50Just seeing guys like Sam Hauser, who had four threes last night,
24:52I feel like Pritchard is a big reason why guys like that have been unlocked.
24:56And so defensively, he's made strides.
24:59Again, the big thing that he has is just his size,
25:01but he's really a good defender,
25:03considering his size and kind of what he has to make up.
25:06So let me know if you guys are disagreeing with me on that.
25:13I'm a little behind in the comments,
25:14so it's possible that you guys are already disagreeing with me.
25:18But I'm just scrolling down here.
25:21Yeah, interesting question.
25:23Brown and Tatum both played the entire first quarter versus the Hawks.
25:26First time they've done so in, I think, years, maybe in the regular season ever.
25:30I think it was just a test.
25:31I don't know if the Joe was asked about it.
25:33I can ask him about it at practice tomorrow if people are curious.
25:36Generally speaking, they're just testing out different rotation kinks.
25:38And I think normally,
25:40Jalen Brown last year played the entire first quarter,
25:42and he individually really benefited from that.
25:44This year, they swapped.
25:45So Tatum's starting the entire first quarter,
25:47and he's really benefiting from that.
25:49And I think it's just a testament to it makes life easier
25:52when you play the entire first 12 minutes
25:54and you play a little bit against the opposing team's bench as well.
25:58And so we'll see whether the Jalen Brown
26:02no longer playing the full first quarter thing
26:04is something that will last long term.
26:06But I think what I observed from the Hawks game
26:08is that Jalen just had it going in the first quarter,
26:10and it's just been a while for him
26:12since he's had a big game like that.
26:13And so I think probably they, Joe and the staff,
26:16just wanted to let him kind of keep riding the hot hand.
26:19So we'll see.
26:23Question about Keita.
26:26I think that Keita is not getting exposed,
26:28but I feel like there was a lot of excitement,
26:32and I'll take 100% of the responsibility.
26:34I'm super excited about him.
26:36I still am.
26:37But it just makes it so that there's,
26:39the reality is that he's not a perfect NBA player.
26:42If he was an NBA starting setter,
26:44a caliber player that's not gonna ever make mistakes,
26:47he would be getting that kind of money
26:48and he'd be on a team with that kind of opportunity.
26:51But he's gonna have his highs and lows.
26:53I felt that he had some low moments these last few games.
26:56And part of it is for his scheming for him and knowing him.
26:59Jordy Fernandez, who coaches the Nets,
27:00he also knows Keita quite well.
27:02His assistant coach on the Sacramento Kings,
27:04so maybe that was a part of it,
27:05is just really being intimately familiar
27:07with some of his mistakes.
27:09But the reality is,
27:10is that this is a really complicated defensive system
27:12that the Celtics play.
27:13It's one that I try my best to learn and understand
27:16so I can write and cover and talk about the game.
27:18And it's really hard sometimes
27:19to understand what they're doing.
27:20And I can't imagine actually being thrown in there.
27:22And Keita just doesn't have as much basketball experience
27:24as most guys that are in the NBA.
27:26And so to me, it's like a learning curve.
27:28And he's gonna have moments where his athleticism,
27:30his pure athleticism and instincts
27:31are enough to kind of carry him
27:32and make him look as good as possible.
27:35And there's gonna be moments where he struggles.
27:37And those moments are gonna continue throughout the year.
27:40They're gonna continue forever because it's life.
27:41But I'm of the belief that I think
27:43the more he plays, the better,
27:44just because you really can't get much better
27:47with situational defense and understanding where to be
27:51when you're just watching.
27:52Playing is a whole different story.
27:54So we'll see if those moments continue.
27:58Luke, I think, has his own things
27:59that he brings to the table,
28:00but I love the idea of them playing Keita more
28:02just because the upside's there.
28:05I asked Al about Keita earlier this week
28:07or was it last week?
28:08And he said, once a game, he does something
28:10where he's the only person on the team that can do that.
28:12And so there's the raw potential, there's the ceiling,
28:15but then there's also the understanding
28:16that he's gonna make mistakes.
28:17And certainly, yeah, I think when you know he's coming,
28:19you can think about how to exploit those more.
28:21In Indiana, when you just came into the fourth quarter
28:23and hadn't played, you can catch opposing teams off guard.
28:26But part of it is also just who they're playing against.
28:28So yeah, so we'll see.
28:34Okay, I'm just gonna scroll through here
28:35because I'm rising a little bit behind.
28:45Yeah, a comment about Keita on the topic.
28:49I don't think he's a Rob Williams type character.
28:52Rob Williams has been looking great in Portland.
28:55So I'm super happy to see that
28:57and happy that he's healthy
28:59and hopefully he can stay healthy.
29:01And so, yeah, he's somebody that is a unicorn.
29:05That's absolutely right.
29:06I don't think Keita is a Rob type player,
29:09but I think that there haven't been a lot of players
29:11that have even shown any inkling or flash
29:14of Rob Williams over the last few weeks,
29:16over the last few years in Boston.
29:18And so Keita at least can do little things
29:20that maybe make people feel excited about him.
29:23And so it's probably more that,
29:25how many Rob Williams comparisons
29:27have there even been to make
29:28over the last five years in Boston?
29:30None.
29:30And so Keita is as close as maybe we're getting.
29:32So maybe that's more what it is,
29:34but you're right.
29:35It's not really a fair expectation to give him.
29:38And just Rob's thing is,
29:39he's such a good help side defender.
29:41His room protection,
29:42that's just not gonna be Keita right now.
29:45But yeah, I wanna catch more Rob Williams
29:47because I've just been watching box scores and highlights
29:49and he looks great.
29:50So happy to hear.
29:51Okay.
29:56Okay.
29:57Sam Houser, I mentioned this earlier,
29:59but I asked him about it at Shootaround this week
30:02and asked him how his back was feeling.
30:04And he said, great.
30:05Abby followed up and asked,
30:06like, has it been bothering him at all?
30:08And he said, here and there.
30:09He's wearing a back brace.
30:11He's wearing heating pads.
30:12He's stretching a lot.
30:13That's as much as we're gonna get.
30:15So the reality is he's had this,
30:17he's been dealing with this since the summer.
30:18So that shows you that there's something there.
30:21It's not just like,
30:22you know, he's a little sore for the last few weeks.
30:24Like it's something that's been relatively long-term.
30:27Like it's been a few months on and off.
30:29So it's a little bit of a cause for concern.
30:30I wish we could get more information
30:32so we could know more,
30:32but we're not going to.
30:33So for now, those are my observations.
30:36I asked him, that's what he said.
30:39And I think a lot of like the shooting stuff
30:41is just rhythm too.
30:42Like he missed some games.
30:42He was playing less minutes.
30:44He wasn't getting as many touches.
30:45So I think it's a little bit of a cause for concern.
30:48So I think he'll be fine.
30:49He'll be able to play and contribute and help
30:51even if he's not 100% with his back.
30:53But yeah, back stuff is just tough.
30:54You don't want it to be something that lingers.
30:57And the fact that it's something
30:58that's bothered him since the summer,
30:59like doesn't bode the best.
31:01Same with the Jalen Brown thing.
31:02Like the fact that he said
31:03that it's something that's bothering him
31:04since training camp.
31:05Like both of those guys,
31:06hard to assess like exactly how important
31:09or how concerning those injuries are
31:11because they are so up and down.
31:14And they both have been playing.
31:15So it's like,
31:15how worried are you gonna be about guys that are playing?
31:17And we've been asking
31:18and not getting a ton of information.
31:19So we'll see.
31:21But I thought he looked good last night.
31:22I mean, he had four threes, four of 10.
31:24I always talk about,
31:25I think Hauser getting looks
31:27is like a really good reflection
31:28of like how the ball is moving.
31:30And so when he gets 10 shots,
31:31like usually that's a really good sign for the offense.
31:33It's very rare that Hauser takes 10 shots
31:35and it was a bad, bad offense night for the Celtics.
31:38So, but yeah,
31:39if I hear anything more from Hauser,
31:41I'll let you guys know.
31:41But also you would imagine
31:42that if it was like really cause for concern,
31:44he just would be missing more time
31:46because they can afford him to not play right now.
31:48So that's a good, yeah, that's a good one.
31:52Okay. So I'm seeing, okay.
31:53This is, these are the reaction
31:54when I was talking about Pritchard about Cam Thomas.
31:57Okay. I'm glad I was,
31:58I thought I might get cooked,
31:59but I think the fan base is high on,
32:01on high on Peyton Pritchard right now.
32:05So we'll see.
32:09Okay. A lot, a lot of Pritchard fans.
32:12Wow, guys.
32:13Yeah. That contract, I think if people,
32:16at the time when it was signed,
32:17it was such a brilliant move
32:17because he really was coming off a season
32:19where he wasn't playing at all.
32:20Now, what was it?
32:22Four years, 30, 32 million or something like that.
32:26Really one of the best contracts in the league.
32:27So, and I'm sure his next one will be bigger.
32:29So yeah.
32:31And Van Fleet has a monster contract in Houston.
32:34So it's just, it was just a timing thing.
32:36I think that Pritchard was signing
32:38off of a year where he hadn't played.
32:39And so the Celtics were, were kind of,
32:41begging on what he could do.
32:43And I love his mindset.
32:45I remember when I started, people were, you know,
32:46other reporters were kind of like,
32:47oh, he's really quiet.
32:48He's hard to get.
32:50It's hard to get like him talking post-game.
32:52I actually think that he's really grown
32:54in that regard as well.
32:54Like, I think he knows he's like an inspiration
32:56to a lot of people.
32:56And so he likes reflecting on like,
32:58just how hard he's worked, his mindset, his approach.
33:01So I always find him to be very illuminating
33:02when he talks post-game.
33:12Okay.
33:12And let's do a quick, feel free to continue
33:14putting in some questions.
33:15I'm running a little bit over, but I think I have time.

34:48put it in again just so I don't miss it.
34:53Cause I'm realizing I'm gonna miss some of these.
34:55Okay, let's do, we can talk about this.
34:56The Nike thing was kind of wild.
34:58I'm sure a lot of you guys saw this,
34:59but Jalen obviously has his beef with Nike.
35:01He thinks that that's why he didn't make
35:03the US Olympic team.
35:04I don't know if that's true.
35:05I haven't looked into it at all.
35:07Maybe this would be something that I could investigate
35:09as a journalist, like talk to,
35:10reach out to Nike or whatever.
35:11But he started his own shoe line, 741 Performance.
35:15It's been, they've been cool to watch.
35:16I didn't love them when I first saw them,
35:18just from like an aesthetic standpoint.
35:19And then now that I see him playing in them more,
35:21I think they're pretty cool.
35:23But yeah, the big story out of today
35:25is that Jalen Brown said that Janusz was a child last,
35:29on Sunday when they did, you know,
35:31they played the Bucs.
35:32And I don't know if like he needed to react with that,
35:34but basically Janusz, for those of you that somehow missed this,
35:37I'm sure most of you saw,
35:38but elbowed him in the head or elbowed him pretty hard,
35:41was called for the offensive foul.
35:42And then like, acted like he was going in
35:44for like the handshake or to be like,
35:45oh, you're good.
35:46And then did like the, like you thought,
35:48you know, like that, that old playground trick.
35:49So afterwards Jalen was asked about it
35:51and he said that Janusz is a child.
35:53And I think probably what bothered him was not
35:55the fact that Janusz was like, did a little trick on him.
35:58I think it was probably more the fact that
36:00he just got elbowed in the head.
36:01And then instead of getting apologized to,
36:02he was like kind of made fun of, I guess, or whatever.
36:04But he said that post game,
36:06the one thing about Jalen,
36:07he will always give the quote post game.
36:08Everybody knows that the reporters would ask him
36:10because he'll say it.
36:11He said it about the Graham Williams thing.
36:13He was like, I thought Graham Williams
36:14and Jason Tatum were friends.
36:15I guess they're not.
36:15Like he always has his one-liners.
36:17So I'm not surprised that he said
36:18that Janusz is a child thing.
36:19But then Janusz had 59 points last night
36:21and the Bucs went over the Pistons
36:23and Nike tweeted like nothing childish about him
36:28or something.
36:28And Jalen, you know, it was a sub-tweet obviously
36:31towards Jalen Brown's comments,
36:32who's not a Nike athlete.
36:34But then it's also weird
36:35because Nike like does all the NBA jerseys.
36:37So like technically they're all kind
36:38of Nike athletes in a sense.
36:40And Jalen tweeted, quote tweeted that
36:43and said like you guys have a weird energy or something.
36:46So I think it's funny.
36:48I hope that it's not why he didn't make the Olympic team
36:50because that would not be funny.
36:51But I think otherwise, like I get his point about Nike.
36:54I get his point about a lot of large corporations.
36:55It's cool that he does his own thing.
36:57I'm always open to hearing about it.
36:59I'm always open to asking him about it.
37:00So I guess I don't have too strong of a take,
37:02but it was for my entertainment here
37:04on my Thursday afternoon.
37:12I don't like the new jerseys,
37:13but also I'm like the least interested person
37:15in like aesthetics.
37:16So like I always see the debates
37:18on like my top, my social media film.
37:20And I never know.
37:21I never really care that much, honestly, either way.
37:23So I saw people that didn't love it.
37:25It does look a little bit like the Oregon Ducks jerseys.
37:27So for those of you that haven't checked it out,
37:29feel free to do so.
37:31Baylor Shireman.
37:32Let's talk about Baylor Shireman really quick
37:33because I'm going to see him tomorrow in Maine
37:35and then also on Sunday.
37:36So I'll have a lot more to say.
37:37I'll do a show on Sunday,
37:38probably after the two main games,
37:40just to debrief what I learned in Maine.
37:44Baylor, I thought, had a tough limited preseason.
37:49But again, like I think there's a lot of those overreactions
37:52when we're watching basketball games
37:53because there's an understanding of like,
37:55okay, you know, why isn't this guy hitting his open three?
37:58And it's like, he's played for two minutes in this game
38:00or he's attempted eight three-pointers off preseason.
38:02Like it doesn't really mean anything.
38:04Baylor struggled in very limited minutes,
38:06but he really, really excelled in the G League in two games,
38:10averaging 27.5 points per game in those two games.
38:13And just shooting lights out,
38:15passing the ball, rebounding, defending.
38:17There is a big difference between Maine and the NBA,
38:20but also there are a lot of guys that go to Maine
38:22and don't dominate.
38:22And so it's a good sign.
38:24I think that he will be able to succeed in the NBA.
38:28Ultimately, I think it might take a little bit of time.
38:30And my stance on this has been pretty consistent
38:32from the beginning that just because he's 24
38:34doesn't mean that there's not going to be a transition
38:36to getting into the league, into excelling.
38:38And so not everybody has like the Jaron McCain situation
38:41where he got drafted
38:42and like has been pretty much scorching hot off the bat.
38:44And it's just been phenomenal for Philadelphia
38:46and a bright spot for them.
38:47Like I think a lot of guys need a little bit of time
38:49and that doesn't reflect them
38:50like what they're going to accomplish down the road.
38:52I remember Pritchard struggling early on
38:54with like shot creation.
38:55Those things are like a distant memory now.
38:56So obviously Baylor's a little bit older
38:59but I think that he'll be fine.
39:00But I'll have more to say after watching him this weekend.
39:04So we can follow up more on that.
39:11Okay, how many games will the Celtics win this year?
39:16They won 64 last year, right?
39:1764 and 18.
39:20I think they're going to win.
39:21I might've guessed earlier this season,
39:22but maybe I'm wrong.
39:24Maybe I don't remember exactly what I guessed.
39:25But right now I would guess like 59.
39:30That's going to be my guess.
39:31Probably I'm on video at one point
39:33saying something different.
39:34So I apologize if that's the case.
39:36Yeah, it was four for 30.
39:37This is the Pritchard contract, I think.
39:43Okay, question.
39:44Do you think the Celtics will win our group in...
39:47Sorry, I'm misreading this.
39:49Do you think if we win in our group
39:50that the Celtics will advance to the NBA cup?
39:52So they lost the first game to Atlanta,
39:54but they only lost by one.
39:55So that's like the good sign, I guess,
39:56as far as looking at the numbers.
39:58And then next week, Cleveland,
40:03who somehow are still undefeated.
40:04Ridiculous.
40:05I've only caught a couple of Cleveland games.
40:07If you guys have watched more,
40:08I'm curious what people have observed
40:10from watching Cleveland.
40:11But just not the start that people were expecting.
40:13But they're going to need to be
40:14pretty much perfect moving forward
40:16because I have a feeling that Cleveland's
40:17going to be pretty perfect moving forward.
40:18So Tuesday's game is going to be huge.
40:21I'll be covering it.
40:22We'll be on the ground.
40:23We'll talk about kind of what we are seeing there.
40:25But I think my...
40:27I never thought they were going to win the NBA cup.
40:29I just don't feel like...
40:30I think it's really hard to be a championship contender
40:32and to be going for championship and also the cup.
40:34Like last year, we saw the Lakers won
40:36and they weren't even really much of a playoff team.
40:39So yeah, I think you're going to want to watch...
40:42You're going to want to watch back,
40:42especially after the way the Hawks game started.
40:44Like they're going to want to show
40:45that they are taking these games seriously.
40:47But I would...
40:48If I had to guess, I think Cleveland right now
40:50has a lot of regular season momentum.
40:51Like they'll probably come out of this group.
40:53But just a guess.
40:54So we'll see.
40:58Thanks so much, all of you.
41:03Maine Celtics tickets are a lot cheaper.
41:05You can get them on game time.
41:06Absolutely.
41:07And Celtics tickets were super expensive.
41:09It sucks.
41:09I know.
41:10I met fans in Charlotte that were like,
41:12I flew here and went to a game because it was cheaper.
41:14And I'm getting two back to my games
41:16and that's the way to do it.
41:17So if you want to catch like good Celtics basketball
41:19in a really good environment, go to Maine.
41:22Like I really recommend it.
41:23The atmosphere is amazing.
41:24Everybody's super, super nice.
41:25Maybe just because I live in Boston.
41:26We were a little rude here, but everybody's super friendly.
41:29There's a lot of good food in Portland.
41:31I'm going tomorrow.
41:32I'm really looking forward to it.
41:33It's kind of like almost like an off day thing to do,
41:34except obviously I'll be covering it too.
41:37And you'll get to see the draft picks.
41:38You'll get to see Baylor Shireman and Anton Watson.
41:41And maybe at certain points this year,
41:42maybe even Jordan Walsh.
41:43Maybe even Drew Peterson.
41:44You know, J.D. Davidson's there right now.
41:46J.D. Davidson is six points away
41:47from becoming the all-time franchise scoring leader.
41:50So that's going to probably happen tomorrow.
41:51So yeah, if you're in New England
41:53and you want to catch like some Celtics basketball,
41:55even if it's not like the Boston Celtics,
41:57I highly recommend.
41:58You can get tickets for like $15, I think.
41:59So check it out.
42:04Okay.
42:07And then I get these questions a lot.
42:09I mean, when I'm me and Bobby playing one-on-one,
42:12I get the question about Jack too.
42:14Honestly, like Jack's been trying to get me to play
42:16with him for a long time and I've been ducking.
42:18So if you watch Jack's pregame show,
42:21how about them Celtics?
42:23Then yeah, then you guys can stop bothering him
42:26because it's my fault.
42:26So we'll play at some point.
42:28I broke my finger during the season playing basketball,
42:31like the beginning of the NBA season.
42:32And so that's made me like not want to play as much.
42:34So, but it's fine now.
42:36So now I have no excuses.
42:37So we'll see.
42:41This is funny.
42:43Not actually, but it's a little funny.
42:48Okay.
42:50I'm going to wrap it up here.
42:51Thank you all so much.
42:52It's so fun to see so many people here.
42:53I feel like I'm getting to know a lot of the commenters
42:55from the Garden Report, the show.
43:00And yeah, this has been super fun.
43:01We got a lot of people on here today, over a couple of hundreds.
43:04So yeah, that's awesome.
43:06And I'll do something.
43:07Yeah, I'll do something this weekend for Maine.
43:09As always, my DMs are open for like journalism things.
43:12So reach out if you have questions,
43:14things you want me to ask.
43:15I've actually asked questions in press conferences
43:18specifically because people have asked me
43:19that they want to get the answers to those questions.
43:21So you are welcome to, you are welcome to do that.
43:25Also, please subscribe to You Got Boston.
43:29I'm, these are, all these shows are being streamed on,
43:31you know, both on the CLNS media
43:33and then also on my YouTube.
43:34But I just want to make sure that I have
43:35like all those people subscribe.
43:36So, so they're, they're always there.
43:39And so you can watch or whatever,
43:39but subscribe to You Got Boston if you can.
43:41Tell a friend.
43:43And we'll do something this weekend as well.
43:45So I'll catch you guys all later.
43:46We'll have coverage post game Saturday
43:48after the Celtics-Raptors game, live from the gardens.
43:50We'll have normal garden report.
43:52But yeah, I'll have some G League stuff as well.
43:54Thanks so much, everyone.
43:55Enjoy the rest of your days and have a great weekend.
