RAKUN, 31, is as unapologetically punk as they come - she describes herself as "extremely chaotic" and her striking look is made up of "a lot of piercings, a lot of tattoos, band shirts, studs" - as well as her signature mohawk. For Rakun it's not just a look, "it's a mindset" - and she has been dressing alternatively from the moment she "stole" her mom's makeup as a young teen and "blacking" her eyes. When she discovered punk music, Rakun had found her community as well as her style - but she had "a lot of battles" with her mom Lhea growing up, who tried to "sway her a bit into not being too different" for fear of what others would think and how it might affect her daughter's life. Lhea soon realised that "she was going to do it no matter what" - but today Rakun has asked her mom to fly in, as she has a surprise in store for her... With help from Makeup Artist, Aly, Rakun is transforming into a "hyper feminine" look - but how will her mom react when she sees her? Will Lhea "freak out a little bit" as Rakun predicts when the daughter she "always wanted" is revealed? Or will it just confirm that Rakun is perfect just the way she is?

00:00I'm a punk, I'm extremely chaotic, I have a lot of piercings, a lot of tattoos, I kind of just do whatever I want to do.
00:08My mom, she always wanted me to be very girly, very feminine.
00:12I tried to kind of sway her a bit into not being too different.
00:17We had a lot of battles about how I look or what I was doing.
00:22There was nothing I could do about it, she was going to do it no matter what.
00:25So today I'm transforming from my modified punk look to hyper-feminine,
00:31something that my mom kind of always wanted me to be.
00:35She might freak out a little bit.
00:46Hello!
00:47Hi, hello, bonjour!
00:48Bonjour!
00:49Nice to meet you.
00:50Nice to meet you, I'm...
00:51Awesome, I'm Raccoon.
00:52Nice to meet you.
00:53Nice to meet you.
00:55My name is Raccoon, I am a punk.
00:59I've been described as a cartoon character where I wear the same two outfits all the time.
01:04It's either a band shirt with shorts and fishnets or my patch pants with a band shirt and my vest.
01:11I love studs, I love anything that's black and white and monochromatic.
01:15Pants, tons of band shirts, even more band shirts.
01:18Belts where they usually have hoops of some sort or studs.
01:22As well as hats, because if I don't put my hair up, I'm always wearing a hat.
01:25I also have my skateboard, which are kind of my pride and joy.
01:29I kind of just do whatever I want to do, whether it fits into any box or not.
01:34I have a lot of piercings, a lot of tattoos.
01:36I skateboard.
01:37The generic ideas of no gods, no masters, or anything like that.
01:41You are your own person.
01:42That's what punk really is to me.
01:45It's a mindset.
01:46Have you ever had groovy makeup before?
01:50No?
01:51Nope.
01:52Never.
01:53Definitely always been a black and big black eyes type.
01:56I started dressing, I guess alternative, when I was very young.
02:00I stole my mom's makeup and I always took the big black palette and eyeliner
02:06and I just started blacking my eyes as much as I could.
02:10I think it was grade 9 when I started putting up my hair into big liberty spikes.
02:14I met a friend of mine and we dated and he was the one that introduced me to punk music.
02:21I was like, this is awesome.
02:22This is how I think.
02:23I love this.
02:24This is fast and angry.
02:25My mom was mad.
02:27She did not like that at all.
02:29And I am ready to start by removing everything.
02:32So today I am transforming from my modified punk look to hyper feminine,
02:38something that my mom kind of always wanted me to be.
02:42So today she's going to actually get to see what that would have looked like.
02:48So first I'm going to start with eyebrows, then I'm going to move to the eyes,
02:51and then I'll be doing the cover-ups on your face, the neck, and after the chest.
02:57How much I probably have spent from my mods to my tattoos is close to $20,000.
03:02That started with literally my very first tattoo when I think I was like 16.
03:07I think you had to be 16 at that time.
03:08I have a big chest piece.
03:10My throat's all done.
03:11I have all this blacked out.
03:13I kept getting more and more.
03:15I kind of stopped counting.
03:16So why'd you decide to do this?
03:18It's something my mom always kind of wanted me to look like.
03:20She always wanted me to be like this.
03:22Feminine?
03:23Yes, as most mothers want.
03:25My mom, she always wanted me to be very girly, very feminine.
03:31She loves bright pink and green and things like that, and that's great.
03:36If you touch a chalkboard and you have that shimmery feeling,
03:40that's me putting on color, you know?
03:42I want to wear this grungy hoodie that I found that probably hasn't been washed in like three years, you know?
03:48And she's just like, that's disgusting.
03:51We had definitely some battles, a lot of battles about how I look or what I was doing.
04:01So right now I'm just focusing on the skin and focus on covering up the tattoos.
04:04She's going to be glammed up a bit.
04:06I already did a little bit of shimmer on her eye.
04:08I'm going to give her some color on her lips.
04:10When you think of hyper feminine, I think I guess like, I don't even know.
04:14Super girly.
04:16Just super girly, I don't know.
04:19Not what I am.
04:21I think like heels.
04:23I think long hair.
04:25Maybe like I think of like business people mixed with Barbie.
04:31Dermablend is known for their heavy coverage.
04:34And so this is the product I'm using to cover her neck tattoos,
04:38as well as concealer, colored concealer, to really cut the color.
04:42I'm absolutely nervous for today.
04:45I'm scared of how my face is going to look.
04:48How is my hair going to be? Am I going to have brown hair?
04:50Like, am I going to go through like an existential crisis at this moment?
04:53Like, I have no idea.
04:55I'm adding a second layer.
04:56This colored concealer I'm using is from NARS.
04:58The one I used before, the red, that's to cut the black.
05:00Now it's like a gray.
05:02So I'm using a lighter concealer.
05:05I'm really, really nervous about seeing myself without tattoos.
05:08I think that's going to be the biggest shock for me and also my mother.
05:12Are you scared she'll prefer the feminine look?
05:15Well, it doesn't matter if she prefers it because she ain't going to get that.
05:20Okay, and I'm done.
05:22Into the wig.
05:24And the final outfit.
05:27Outfit.
05:31So you're ready to see yourself?
05:33Yep, I guess so.
05:35Okay.
05:36Three, two, one.
05:40Oh, what the f***?
05:42Oh my God.
05:46Oh, I look like my mother.
05:50What?
05:53Wow!
05:54It's blonde and brown and color and...
05:57Sorry, I'm having a moment, holy f***.
06:00Yeah, also the fact that I have no, like, tattoos.
06:04Oh my God.
06:06It's weird.
06:07It's kind of freaking me out.
06:08A lot.
06:09How do you feel about the way your mom's going to see you?
06:11Oh my God, I don't know.
06:12She's a loud person, so I don't know what's going to happen.
06:15She might freak out a little bit, so we'll see.
06:17Let's show her mom.
06:20Her punk style is her.
06:21I mean, I'm accustomed to it.
06:23She's an adult, so she gets to choose whatever she wants to do.
06:26I try to kind of sway her a bit into not being too different.
06:32You know, there was nothing I could do about it.
06:34She was going to do it no matter what.
06:36I am nervous. I've been nervous since she wanted me to come down.
06:39Wondering what it was going to be.
06:41You just never know what's going to happen.
06:43She likes to shock people.
06:45Ready, Mama?
06:46Okay.
06:47All right.
06:48One, two, three.
06:54Holy s***.
06:57Wow.
06:59Wow, you look nice, honey.
07:02Thanks.
07:04A whole lot different, that's for sure.
07:06Holy smokes.
07:07Yeah.
07:08Wow.
07:10I can't remember you without tattoos.
07:12That's how I feel.
07:14I was like, I haven't seen myself without tattoos, like, ever.
07:17Wow.
07:19You look totally different.
07:20I know, right?
07:23Her smile's the same.
07:26But, wow.
07:27Yeah.
07:30You good?
07:31Yeah, I'm good.
07:32Yeah, you good?
07:33Yeah, I'm good.
07:35This will be good.
07:37She'll be like, what the f***?
07:39So, do you prefer this look or her normal look?
07:43Be truthful.
07:44I don't know.
07:45I mean, this is nice, but I know it just isn't her and her personality.
07:49I mean, it's different, but just knowing my daughter, I don't think it is her.
08:02Wow.
08:04I agree.
08:06Yeah.
08:07It's, uh...
08:10It's, uh...
08:11It's, uh...
08:12Different.
08:13Let's say that as a word.
08:15Honestly, it's, uh...
08:19Even in French, I don't have any words.
08:23Honestly, just so weird.
08:25Yeah.
08:26Yeah, it's not you.
08:28It's not yourself, and it shows.
08:32Would you ever dress like this again?
08:35On purpose?
08:36No.
08:37No.
08:38The fact that I'm wearing color already freaks me out at the moment, so I wouldn't choose
08:42this to wear on my own.
08:43No.
08:44Let alone makeup?
08:45No.
08:46Red lips?
08:47No.
08:48I have black lips, and that's usually it.
