Two women died in a head-on collision north of Bunbury overnight, with one of the cars travelling on the dual-lane highway in the wrong direction. Two other people died in separate crashes near Kalbarri and in Osborne Park in Perth. With one day left of the year, the 2024 road toll sits at 186 — the highest number of deaths on WA roads in eight years.

00:00Four people dead in a horror six-hour window.
00:06Two cars smashed straight into each other on Forest Highway in Lake Clifton on Monday
00:10night.
00:11Today is a very sad day to what's been a bad year on our roads.
00:15Police confirmed one car had somehow ended up on the wrong side of the road, despite
00:19a large median strip separating the two sides.
00:23It seems difficult, but behind every crash there's a story, and I don't want to pre-empt
00:26the investigation.
00:27Both drivers, a 41-year-old woman and a 45-year-old woman, died at the scene from their injuries.
00:34Around the same time, a pedestrian was hit by a car on Main Street in the Perth suburb
00:39of Osborne Park.
00:41The sedan was coming from up here and travelling in this direction when it hit a 33-year-old
00:45man right here on the road.
00:47Local residents heard a bang and saw police cars and ambulances converging on this site.
00:53Unfortunately, the pedestrian suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
00:58We believe he was laying on the road at the time, however that is also subject to investigation.
01:04And a 26-year-old woman died when the car she was driving rolled over south of the tourist
01:09town of Kalbarri.
01:11186 people killed on the road so far this year, the second highest in the last decade
01:17after the 196 in 2016.
01:20People continue to die of things that are purely preventable.
01:25Don't speed, don't drink and drive, wear your seatbelt and fatigue.
01:32Distraction is also a significant issue that we continue to combat.
01:36What can I do differently?
01:37What can we do differently?
01:39That's the fundamental question we all have to ask.
01:41Look in the mirror, ask that question of yourself, turn to your family, your loved ones and ask
01:45that question of them.
01:46We aim to halve the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads by 2030.
