00:00That was like my top three dreams as a kid was like be the hands of Cheadle be a superhero and be a
00:07literal doll
00:09Brooke i'm three for three. So i'm i'm done a happy man. Yeah, great. Great. Perfect. Hold here
00:15You can't even see me. Can you give me a little bit of something with the fingertips?
00:18Maybe a bit of a waggle a waggle a waggle
00:22uh
00:24Yeah, yeah, yeah that do that but with your fingertips
00:28Yes, yes, hey sumu, thanks so much for taking the time to chat with narcity
00:32So you got a nice little background there. How are we doing? I got a nice little spread
00:36Like I thought i'd spruce up the place with a little bit of orange
00:38I thought I thought it needed a little pop of color as you can see. The walls are very gray
00:43And um, and then you know funny thing I had all these cheetos lying around
00:48And so I just started I just started arranging them and um, three hours later
00:52This is what I this is what I came up with so I love it
00:55It feels very fitting, you know now you're the face. Sorry. Sorry the hands of cheetal
00:59So your apartment kind of has to reflect that I feel
01:02Yeah, yeah, what made you want to be the hand of cheetal?
01:06Uh, who doesn't who doesn't want to be the hand of cheetal?
01:08I feel like that was my that was like on my dream board
01:12That was like that was like my top three dreams as a kid was like
01:15be the hands of cheetal be a superhero and be a
01:20literal doll
01:21and um
01:23Brooke i'm three for three. So i'm i'm dying a happy man. You've been traveling so much. You're in toronto
01:28You're in la you've gone to some amazing destinations around the world
01:31With winter coming up for torontonians if they could have one vacation, where should they go?
01:36Where should they go? Where should they go? Um, that's a really good question
01:41Um, you know, it depends i'm a big one of my favorite things to do is to plan itineraries for myself for other people
01:48um, you know, i'm
01:50My instinct would be to say go somewhere tropical, you know, go to go to cancun, you know go to um
01:57last, uh last winter I went to anguilla
02:02which which is
02:04Crazy, I maybe two years ago didn't even know that anguilla existed
02:07But it's got some of the most beautiful beaches and amazing people you'll ever meet
02:11but if you're a cold weather person and you love
02:15The slopes then go to trombone, you know go to trombone go to whistler stay in canada
02:19Um do a little apres ski, you know what I mean? Um
02:23It all just depends on what you want. But the most important thing is that you replenish yourself
02:29You know rest your body and your soul and your mind
02:34and um
02:35And and have a do it with a little bit of cheeto on your fingertips. You know what I mean?
02:40We did it simu. Yeah basic cheetos. That's a big deal
02:43Yeah, there's just like a couple of things in the contract. I want you to peruse. Yeah, sure
02:47Whoa, so I can't sign autographs you hosted the junos again this year
02:51What did you think of the person who crashed during avril lavigne's presentation?
02:55It takes a lot of something to go up on a stage a nationally televised stage with uh with a canadian sweetheart
03:02and then to just
03:04you know
03:06Show it all
03:07I wouldn't be able to um, so so
03:11Yeah, I I mean it definitely it definitely takes
03:13Something amounting to courage or or you know that fine line between courage and stupidity
03:18I don't know where she was
03:20I think she was all over that line and over on both sides and just hop stepping but
03:25But you know what I what I really was surprised by is how long
03:30The security let it go on for because I saw it happening
03:34Backstage and I was like, oh my god
03:38And then like it's still it just went on for another 30 seconds
03:42And I and I wonder if it was because it was just so brazen that the security guard was like
03:47Oh, well, this must be
03:48a part of the show
03:51But I mean for the for those of us who knew that it wasn't I think we were just like horrified just standing there
03:57um watching it happen and I know that that particular woman had a had a cause that she was there to you know,
04:04to promote, um, I don't know what that had to do with breasts, but um
04:09You know, I I was something about that message I think maybe got lost in the nudity of it all
04:14I mean, it was an effective way to get people talking and you know talking about people talking
04:18Have you ever googled yourself and what was the most surprising thing you learned and what was one wild and untrue thing you learned?
04:25Oh my god. Um
04:27Yeah, i've googled i've done it a couple times. I've done it a couple times. I would say it's terrible for mental health
04:34Um because it's like that thing in high school where it's like you if you know people are talking about you
04:42Like would you rather know what they're saying or not?
04:45I think I don't really want to get into specifics, but I think there's definitely been untrue things that i've read
04:51about myself and I think
04:53the thing that that is hard about this this whole I don't know, I guess this fame thing is like
05:00you know, you you come up in a place where
05:03At one point in your career everything you hear is generally pretty supportive and then you know you get to a place and I think
05:08that's maybe
05:09Indicative of of like where you know, what is that in their career when the negativity starts to happen?
05:16and you know, I think
05:18I think there's there it takes a real discipline and a strength of mind
05:23to say
05:25I'm, not going to be able to get through to everyone
05:28I'm, not going to be able to explain myself to everyone or to tell the truth to everyone
05:33Not everyone's going to want to hear it. Not everyone's going to you know, uh care
05:38Uh, which fair enough, you know, um
05:42And you just got to let the haters hate because you know as as they say haters haters gonna hate
05:47So i'm going to read you some narcissistic headlines about you and I want you to react
05:52Okay, just top of mind. So we're gonna start
05:55Simileu was a total fanboy at taylor swift's concert and shared some deep cut swifty takes
06:02Yeah, yeah, I have been a bit more of a swifty. Um
06:06In in recent. I mean, I think i've always been like a support like a casual fan
06:10You know, I know the songs that everyone else knows and taylor's released some absolute bangers over the years, you know
06:17her 1989
06:18era in the heiress tour was
06:21But like I was pretty much on my feet jumping the whole time what i've really learned to appreciate in this last year
06:28is um, some of the like lesser known songs or some of her
06:32For like, you know, it's like it's not
06:36The stuff that is her potentially like maybe the catchiest but there's real insight and real heart and you know
06:43Um and songs like we'll just talk about midnight's first like songs like the great war
06:48You know, which is one of my favorites one of my absolute favorites. Um
06:52songs like daylight, um
06:55songs that like are just they're so
06:59Songs like cornelia street, you know, like they're so specific songs like all too well 10 minute version. They're
07:06So specific and because they're so specific. They're so universally relatable
07:10and um, she's got this just wonderful unique ability to just tap into
07:15What everyone is feeling and and I think she's
07:18She's so real for that, you know, so I got I got the next one for you. Okay. This one's a little spicy
07:23Buckle up. Okay. Oh, okay. Here we go. New book has inspired some extremely thirsty reviews and apparently he's a daddy
07:32Okay
07:34uh
07:35Um, that's that's so interesting that a book that the book wouldn't would inspire that but I appreciate I appreciate that
07:42I appreciate that because it's
07:45the book the book is uh, it's those that's a very vulnerable part of me more it feels more
07:52It feels like i'm bearing more of myself than that woman
07:56That crashed the stage at the 2023 juno awards, you know
07:59Like but it's a similar action if you will of just like the vulnerability of like just showing
08:06all of the parts of yourself and maybe maybe that book is
08:10Doing it in a more metaphorical sense
08:13less on the nose, but
08:16Yeah, yeah, yeah
08:18um, so I appreciate that I appreciate that i'm very proud of the book and i'm glad that people are
08:24Responding to it in whatever positive way that they uh, they so choose
08:29Simu Liu says he grew up the definition of poor and that treating his parents is the greatest
08:34It is the greatest. Um, and i'm sure my parents would have something to say about about what I said
08:39um, but but you know, we weren't we weren't well off by any means, but we made it work and
08:44You know, it was great too as you know, I got to watch my parents grow in their careers from
08:50You know when I when I first came to canada, it was about four and a half
08:54My parents were yeah, they were in grad school. They were living off of
08:57You know scholarship money and I got to witness them get their first jobs and get promoted
09:04You know and both my parents work at the same
09:06Worked at the same engineering company
09:09together for like 20 years and they
09:12um
09:14And I got to watch them grow and get promoted and get to you know
09:17Get to a place where they could buy their first house
09:20Of course, they wouldn't be able to afford it in this day and age with the price of the way that they are
09:24But back then it was still possible
09:26and um, and that's the house that I grew up in and the house that they still live in so
09:31Um, i'm just so proud of them, you know, their story is
09:35Is so inspirational so much more inspirational than anything i'll ever do
09:40and um
09:41and I just
09:42i'm, i'm very grateful to be in a position now where I can
09:46I can show appreciation and I can give back and and let them know that you know
09:50their their next few years are going to be the definition of not poor and that we're going to
09:56um, just
09:58You know go ham and i'm going to spoil the crap out of them
10:00Well, thank you so much for taking the time to chat it's always a pleasure always love chatting with you
