00:00Newcastle City Council have promised that there will be big progress on the restoration work being carried out to the Tyne Bridge by the end of 2025.

00:29Overnight closures will take place from 8pm to 6am between the 7th and 10th of January to allow for essential large-scale equipment to be brought across the bridge.
00:37Road traffic across the bridge will continue to be restricted to one lane each way for the rest of 2025,
00:42and the council are still hopeful Keir Starmer's government will release the final £6m of funding that they've halted that was promised by the previous government.
00:50Steve Garrigan, Divisional Director at Contractors Esh Construction, has advised they want it to hit the ground running in the new year to continue restoring the Tyne Bridge and preserve it for future generations.
