00:25Leilani's husband died in 2020.

00:28But until now, he has received a monthly pension from the Social Security System or SSS.

00:34His wife worked as a company driver for 25 years.

00:38She also received almost P4,000.

00:40She became a help for the tuition park of my youngest son.

00:45That's why Leilani insists on paying her own contribution to the SSS every month.

00:51But she admitted that it's heavy in her pocket.

00:53If your salary bracket is big,

00:57you won't feel it. But if you're just a minimum-wager,

01:01it's a bit difficult because of the high expenses.

01:07But starting this January,

01:09the employees and employers in the SSS will pay more.

01:13According to the Social Security Act of 2018,

01:16the SSS should increase the contribution rate every two years.

01:20This 2025 is the last increase that will reach 15%.

01:24The employer will pay 10% while the employee will pay 5%.

01:28So if you're a minimum-wage earner in Metro Manila,

01:31who receives P645 per day,

01:34you will pay P700 per month to the SSS

01:38while your employer will pay P1,410.

01:43Some groups increased the contribution to the SSS,

01:47like those who rallied in Philcoa earlier,

01:49who claimed that it was in line with the increase in electricity, water, and gasoline.

01:54In the report of the Commission on Audit of 2023,

01:57they claimed that the SSS,

01:59because they still have more than P89 billion,

02:02will not collect the premium contribution from private companies as of year-end 2023.

02:08In total, the unpaid or unremitted premium contributions

02:14of the delinquent employers they fired from their employees are more than P93 billion.

02:19Based on the records, the delinquent employer has more than P420,000

02:23and almost P71,000 of them are inactive, under temporary suspension,

02:28or have closed and dormant accounts.

02:30This is equivalent to more than P25 billion in collectibles.

02:34COA said that this has a direct impact on the stability and performance of the SSS.

02:39We are trying to catch the panic of the SSS but they still have no response.
