00:00Joining me is Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter. We're going to talk about the what this storm does across the mid-Atlantic states
00:06But you and the forecasting team had a difficult
00:09decision to make
00:10Pertaining to Dallas with the snow in the sleet John because there's going to be a pretty gradation from north to south across the area
00:18Yeah, there's gonna be a sharp variation Bernie in impact and we're expecting a significant snow storm across the Dallas area remember
00:26Six or more inches of snow in Dallas is quite rare in fact it only occurs on average once every 15 years and
00:35The setup is going to be such that on the north side of the Dallas Metroplex
00:39There can be higher snow totals and a gradation as you head to the south
00:43So this is a big storm and small differences in the temperatures above the ground
00:48Can mean a little bit more or a little bit less snow great time to use the Accuweather
00:52Wintercast and you'll be able to see the risk for a little bit more a little bit less snow right in your community
00:58All right, let's talk about the ice now listen. This isn't the big ice storm that we had across the southern plains however
01:04It's far enough south that a little ice can cause huge problems here
01:08And I think there's at least the chance that we could be looking at some sleet and and freezing rain that
01:14Eventually turns over to some rain and enough to result in dangerous travel as you were talking about Bernie remember
01:21There's less snow fighting equipment less snow plows sanders things like that across the southern part of the United States
01:28so that means lesser amounts of snow and ice can result in greater impact and
01:33Icy travel across parts of I-20 I-55 and even out toward Atlanta here as we make our way through
01:41Friday all right, let's talk about where it goes from now and again
01:45It was your our long-range team headed by Joe Lumberg the crystal ball and meteorologist Paul Pasteluk that highlighted this storm
01:53From December 27th. We knew there's either storm that was going to be moving off the coast or coming up or coming up the coast
02:00Here's scenario number one, and I think we both think that this is the most likely scenario
02:05We do in the storm ends up moving more east than it does north that still will result in
02:11Some snow though lighter snows across much of the northeast a heavier snow bands across parts of Virginia and
02:18also this sleet and freezing rain concern
02:21Which is a big problem from Atlanta to Charlotte and Raleigh a high-impact storm
02:26But this would be moving east so less impact up the coast now
02:31Not the most likely scenario coming up with number two
02:35But you know what you still can't rule it out
02:38That is this storm as it gets toward the Carolina coast it strengthens a little bit now
02:42Maybe it continues to move east, but there's still a chance it could come north
02:45If it turns up the coast into the north and intensifies
02:48We have a major nor'easter with heavy snow from Boston to New York to Philadelphia to Washington DC and an icy
02:56Mix to the south and east this looks less likely in fact
03:00I would ascribe about a 15% chance of this happening at this particular time
03:05But it cannot be ruled out now. We've got to watch it. Yeah, we'll watch how much energy comes out of the southwest
03:10That's going to be the key chief meteorologist Jonathan Porter John. Thanks for breaking it down here on Accuweather early
