00:00Investment, trade and industry minister Datuk Sri Tengku Zafrul Aziz says Putrajaya will
00:11continue to take a strong stance in promoting a rules-based world order.
00:16He was speaking at the close of the ASEAN Economic Opinion Leaders Conference Outlook
00:20for 2025 on Thursday.
00:23Tengku Zafrul says new major power dynamics under Trump's administration, coupled with
00:28calls for a new world order by middle powers and other regions in line with the global
00:33south, is something ASEAN must continuously take stock of.
00:37As demonstrated by our Prime Minister, Malaysia needs to continue being active, being outspoken
00:45and principled on geopolitical and economic issues during our chairmanship.
00:52So the Malaysian government, and by extension METI, will continue to take a strong stand
00:57on promoting a rules-based world order.
01:01Tengku Zafrul said in the era of US-China decoupling and de-globalisation, ASEAN's
01:07strong neutrality and non-alignment could be crucial in preserving many of the world's
01:11critical supply chains.
01:12As ASEAN attracts more investment flows from many countries, ASEAN is also supporting the
01:20region's geopolitical security and this can only be good for the region and for the world.
01:27Next, as the China Plus One strategy runs its course and superpowers of economies decouple,
01:36so too will supply chains.
01:38As every export from a particular country, from steel to even garlic, is being closely
01:47scrutinised today, everything is now a security threat, increasingly more MNCs are not only
01:53diversifying their suppliers and logistics providers, but also building supply chains
01:59that mirror geopolitical alliances.
02:03He added that as ASEAN's chairman, Malaysia's commitment will be reflected in tangible results
02:08delivered in 2025, benefiting the country and the entire ASEAN community.
02:14The ASEAN Economic Opinion Leaders' Conference was a two-day event organised by the Investment,
02:19Trade and Industry Ministry to kick off Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship.

02:29issues and the sustainable future of the regional grouping.
