00:00We're gonna head on over to Tampa Bay Downs. Alexa, we haven't been out to
00:03Tampa Bay Downs to talk about some of their races quite yet. And what is
00:06interesting about these two this weekend, we're gonna first start with
00:10the Pasco and then the Gasparilla. Their race is four and five on saturday,
00:14january the 11th. They're not Kentucky Derby or Kentucky Oaks points races,
00:18but their races for three year olds going seven furlongs and they're early
00:23on in the year. A lot of connections will try to use this race as kind of
00:27like a tester or a stepping stone before stretching their horses out.
00:31Like if we look at this field, Owen Almighty, who's the heavy favorite,
00:34he's a horse who probably has Kentucky Derby aspirations. Even the four rookie
00:39card or the five naughty rascal, they feel like the three in here that could
00:43be maybe Derby horses down the line. How did you see this race kind of
00:47shaping up and who did you like? Yeah, my favorite in here was that five
00:51naughty rascal who's improved since breaking his maiden early in the two
00:54year old season against florida bread company. And for those of you who
00:58aren't familiar with the term breaking a maiden, being a maiden just means
01:01you're a loser. You haven't won yet in horse racing. So, um, you know, he's
01:05won two of the four states he's competed in since both over dirt and
01:09turf courses closed late in his Tampa Bay Downs debut last out and just
01:14couldn't catch the odds on favorite donut god, but did show some good turn
01:18of foot and I think could be a contender in here with a closing kick.
01:22What's nice about naughty rascal? He's the most experienced in the field.
01:26He's got a really nice body of work. He's won stakes races on the turf and
01:32on the dirt. He's one going a mile on the turf. So that's farther than this
01:36race. So fitness shouldn't really be a problem for him. And he's kind of like
01:40the now horse where a horse like Owen Almighty might need this race to get to
01:44some of his better races and kind of shake off some of the rust. See a horse
01:48like naughty rascal. He's just really solid right now. And every time I see
01:52him, he reminds me of Tommy boy. He's naughty. My naughty little pet. He's
01:56naughty. You know, you gotta be careful with that naughty rascal there. So a
01:59look at the past go where you have a couple of very talented horses and
02:03rookie card, naughty rascal and then to the outside the heavy favorite Owen
02:07Almighty. So those were the boys in the past go in race number five. We're
02:12gonna take a look at the Phillies, the three year old Phillies. They will be
02:15sprinting seven furlongs in the Gasparilla. And in this one, Alexa, I
02:19think kind of the similar strength to the outside of the field. It looks like
02:23Mrs. Worldwide. Very logical winning. You're in very logical. These are two
02:29horses, I think, kind of to start with as some of the major players in here.
02:32Who did you like? Yeah, I like the seven is my top selection. When in,
02:37you're in 13 races as a two year old, including the sharp Susan stakes at
02:41Gulfstream exits the florida sire stakes, winning the susan scroll six
02:45two back before fading kind of badly and the my dear girl stakes in
02:50november. But you know, does her best running on or near the lead and I think
02:54could battle miss worldwide for early positioning. Miguel Vasquez keeps the
02:59mountain has been aboard all lifetime starts so far. So a lot of comfortable
03:04position for in here. And when you're building fitness, when you're training
03:08for any type of race, when you're training for any type of sport, the
03:13farther you go, you're obviously gonna build up your stamina and winning.
03:16You're in went raced a mile and a 16th last time out and just found that too
03:21far. So a lot of the times with horses like this, it's not an exact science,
03:25right, Alexa? It's some trial and error. You try something out. Oh, you know
03:29what? That didn't really work out. Now let's go back to what worked out well.
03:32So a lot of times I love horses like this that get to go a little bit
03:36farther and then cut back because you just feel like they're gonna have a
03:39little more fitness cutting back. They have raced a little bit farther, so
03:44there might be a little more bottom when you turn back the six and seven
03:47super logical players. And maybe if you're looking for a price horse in
03:51here, you could look to a horse like Lin's Milky Way, who's pretty quick and
03:56might be able to kind of steal this race. You can see they have the three
04:00Lin's Milky Way way out in front on the pace projector ahead of some of the
04:04others. So, um, maybe that's a way we can get a little bit of value in here,
04:08Alexa. But a tricky race, and it feels like the major players to the outside.
04:13Yeah, definitely. The six and seven are gonna be major, major contenders in
04:17here. So when you're handicapping these two races, what you want to do is not
04:21only look at the races individually, but also kind of put some of these
04:25horses make a mental note for down the line. Are these horses who you like,
04:30who you think might be able to run a little bit farther be Kentucky Derby or
04:34Kentucky Oaks type horses?
