00:00Joe, the Chargers at the Texans and the Steelers at the Ravens.
00:03Now, most people will talk about the second half of that Chargers-Texans game,
00:08everything that you could possibly want and more.
00:10Very entertaining, very WWE-like, if you will.
00:15But then the real football kind of came out in the latter game.
00:19And I think the casual fan, and I was watching with some casual fans,
00:23a lot of the people in the room were asking, the Steelers just appear lackluster.
00:27Everything they do just appears to be a step behind Baltimore.
00:31So even the casual eye could see that Baltimore had that advantage.
00:35Now, will we be seeing anything from yesterday today?
00:40Well, maybe a little bit here and there.
00:42But we'll get to that Ravens game in just a second.
00:45I just think the Ravens finally exercised the demons a couple weeks ago of Lamar Jackson
00:50always just kind of being owned, quote unquote, by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:54And then people have used that term on him.
00:56And guess what?
00:57You are until you're not.
00:58And by the way, don't sweat the technique on Mr. Matt Stryker,
01:02dropping some Eric B. and Rakim lyrics here on the show early in the morning
01:05before we even hit 9 o'clock.
01:07I mean, that's tremendous effort by you.
01:09However, on top of that, yeah, I mean, Lamar finally, again,
01:14was able to get that monkey off his back and performed really well
01:19in that last game against the Steelers.
01:20It was at home and last night as well.
01:21But let's start with the early game here with the Chargers.
01:24Because this was a game that most of us, quote unquote,
01:28Sharps were in on the Chargers.
01:29Harbaugh, a really good coach, Herbert playing very well.
01:33And think about the turnaround of this team, right?
01:34This was a team that was a disaster.
01:36They had a top three overall pick last year, right?
01:39Or top five, I should say, overall pick last year.
01:41And now they're a playoff team.
01:43So incredible turnaround in one year for the Chargers.
01:47But the Texans, a team that had been really lackluster
01:50and struggled against really good teams all season long,
01:54it seemed like an easy one.
01:56And now the problem was maybe the media put a little bit
01:58too much into the Houston Texans bubble
02:02because those guys were not feeling it.
02:05The defense was not feeling it.
02:06It was Rex Ryan called this a bye week for the Chargers.
02:10And the Texans took it personally.
02:11And after the game, Joe Mixon was lighting up a cigar
02:14and talking about the bye week.
02:16And it looks like some of these players sometimes hear this
02:19and it was the right motivation.
02:20And let's give credit first to the defense
02:23because they were put in some terrible spots
02:25in the first half of this game.
02:26They held to three, the Chargers over and over again.
02:31And when you're settling for threes instead of sixes,
02:32it's going to come back to haunt you.
02:34Turnovers were a problem, especially in the second half
02:36of this game here.
02:37Justin Herbert had three interceptions all season long.
02:40He had four in this game.
02:41Now, one of them, certainly not his fault,
02:42right off the hands of Disley.
02:43But still, at the end of the day,
02:45there's no official score in football,
02:47which I don't understand personally.
02:48I want to get that changed.
02:49I don't think every interception should be
02:51on the quarterback sometimes when you hit a guy
02:52in the numbers here with a pass
02:54and it goes off of him and somebody else.
02:56I think interceptions should sometimes
02:57go to the wide receiver,
02:58but that's another fight for me.
03:00However, the Chargers end up,
03:02unfortunately, coming up short.
03:03Great job by CJ Stroud in the second half of this game,
03:05running all over the place and doing what he does.
03:07Joe Mixon in the second half,
03:08despite a big fumble to open the second half,
03:10bounced back.
03:11So good stat line.
03:12So I was in on the overall McConkie receptions and yards.
03:15We certainly got that.
03:16That was an easy one, but the Chargers fall short.
03:19And the Pittsburgh Steelers,
03:20to what you were talking about, Matt,
03:22they seemed like a team that was just outclassed,
03:25outmanned, outnumbered.
03:26I mean, all the Hamilton stuff aside, man,
03:29like I'm telling you right now,
03:31the Pittsburgh Steelers need to search
03:34the souls here a little bit
03:35because this could have been a season
03:36about finding your young quarterback.
03:38You had 26-year-old Justin Fields,
03:40who was 4-2.
03:40You replaced him with 36-year-old Russell Wilson.
03:43Where?
03:43Why?
03:44To get to a winning record
03:46and get out in the first round of the playoffs again.
03:48Now, this offseason,
03:49you're in the same spot you were last time, right?
03:51Which is what?
03:52You're looking for a quarterback
03:54and you don't know if Fields could be that guy.
03:56Derek Henry is that guy.
03:57Lamar Jackson's this guy.
03:58And the Ravens literally ran the ball
04:00down the Steelers' throat.
04:02And I mean, 15 times in a row at one point,
04:05they were running the football.
04:0615 plays in a row, Matt, in an NFL game.
04:09I don't know what's going on here,
04:10but that was pretty impressive.
04:12They asserted their will, asserted their dominance.
04:13The Ravens are gonna be tough for anybody,
04:15the defense playing better.
04:17Look, I know in the second half there,
04:19in the third quarter,
04:20Wilson got them on the board.
04:21It looked like they might get back to this game.
04:22And then the Steelers said,
04:23nope, not happening.
04:25This was a very one-sided game.
04:26This was over at halftime.
04:28And the Ravens and Lamar Jackson
04:30are going to be a problem
04:33in the next round of the playoffs
04:34for whoever they get.
04:35So we'll see who that is today and tomorrow
04:38as everything starts to unfold.
