00:00The floodlights are off, the pitch lights are on, as we reflect on Newcastle United's 3-1 win over Bromley here in the third round of the FA Cup.
00:12It was a case of job done for Newcastle United. First half that wasn't a great performance by any stretch.
00:21Nine changes, only Joe Linton and Martin Dabravka remaining from that Arsenal game.
00:30I think really the only person that came out with any sort of real credit in that first half was Lewis Miley.
00:36His first start since about March, February time, so a lot of months have gone by since we've seen Lewis Miley in the middle of Newcastle United's midfield.
00:45He was a standout in that first half. Weak, I think, for the goal. Out-muscled quite easily when Bromley took a surprise lead in the eighth minute, but so integral from then onwards.
00:57Actually threaded the ball through to Willa Sula. He tried to round the goalkeeper, failed to do so, but the ball eventually made its way back out to Lewis Miley.
01:05What a strike from about 25 yards out to find, near enough, the top corner at a level.
01:12I thought he was a real bright spot in that first half. A lot of players that came into the team were given opportunities, French players that were given opportunities.
01:22Starting in the attack where Miguel Almond, for as much as he works hard, didn't grasp an opportunity at all.
01:30Harvey Barnes is one I was really looking forward to seeing today because I think he's been unfortunate not to start more games this season.
01:35Statistically, he's had a very, very good season, but his game only lasted 45 minutes because he was forced off with a muscular problem,
01:44so we didn't see enough of him in the midfield. Sean Longstaff, an opportunity for him.
01:50Again, another one that worked hard, but wasn't exactly at the heart of everything Newcastle were doing in terms of trying to create chances.
01:58Lloyd Kelly, I thought, finished the game strongly, but had a moment where he gave the ball away and it could have resulted in Bromley making it 2-0.
02:08There are some of the performances there where you look at them and their players that can come into the team,
02:13but based on what we've seen today, it was always going to be difficult as well because the players that Newcastle have got in the team at the moment,
02:21the first team, if you like, were your Tonalis, your Brunos, your Dan Burns.
02:27It was really hard to displace them, but it was an opportunity for those players to show something today,
02:32and I think overall, as much as Newcastle end up getting the job done, those players didn't really grasp their opportunity.
02:39First half was poor, second half was much better. Bruno Guimaraes came off the bench,
02:45Anthony Gordon came on for Harvey Barnes who was injured, Joe Linton was replaced by Bruno.
02:50That was a pre-planned sub at the start of the game, and bringing those two players on instantly raised the levels.
02:56Newcastle raced into a 2-1, 3-1 lead, apparently, which my target one was converted by Anthony Gordon,
03:03and then Willa Sula with his first goal, a stunning goal as well.
03:07A left-footed finish, a powerful left-footed finish. I think the keeper might have feely done better,
03:13but take nothing away from the effort. It was ferocious into the back of the net,
03:18and it was nice to see him get a goal with Sula because I think he deserved it.
03:22He worked really hard behind the scenes, learning from Alexander Isaac.
03:27Not a bad striker to learn off, but he deserved his goal today.
03:33I thought he was bright, hasn't had much football, but he finally got that dug off his back, if you like,
03:40and managed to celebrate in front of the leaders, and you can see how much that means to him.
03:44Kissing the badge, so a really, really nice moment for him.
03:47It was a productive, professional display, I would say, from Newcastle in the end,
03:55with a couple of good performers, as I say, Willa Sula as one, and Lewis Miley as the other, for me.
04:02That's all to report on, really.
04:07Morten de Bravga, the biggest news story of this transfer window.
04:11It sounds like he is going to stay now, it doesn't sound like he's going anywhere.
04:15I spoke about an agreement with him, I think him being in the team today,
04:20ahead of Odysseys Vlaarder-Demos, is a major hint you don't start a goalkeeper.
04:25That could be away next week, if you believed Odysseys Vlaarder-Demos had to come in at some point,
04:30because he would need minutes, but that wasn't the case.
04:33I expected Vlaarder-Demos to start today, it wasn't, it was de Bravga.
04:36Maybe he should have been disappointed that he didn't keep out the opening goal,
04:40but he didn't have a lot to do.
04:43A big couple of games coming up for Newcastle now, both at home at St James' Park.
04:48A start move for Wolverhampton on Wednesday, where I expect Eddie Howe to revert back
04:53to the start 11 that beat Tottenham,
04:58because I think Bruno will come back in for Joe Willock, who wasn't here today,
05:01because of a muscular problem, but Eddie Howe doesn't think that is serious.
05:05Sven Botman and Jacob Murphy were rested, not in the squad at all,
05:08but I expect them to return in midweek.
05:10And then after they've played Wolves, they host the Born Mafia as well,
05:13Eddie Howe's former club.
05:15So, eight wins on the spin now for Newcastle United,
05:18an opportunity to make it 9-10.
05:20Let's see if they can do it.
05:21If they can do that, they'll be flying up the Premier League table.
05:25We've got the fourth round of the FA Cup to look forward to,
05:28and away tie at Birmingham City.
05:30And, of course, that second leg against Arsenal in still over a month's time now.
05:35But, yes, plenty to look forward to.
05:36It's been an incredible turnaround for Newcastle United since that Brentford defeat.
05:40Eight wins in a row.
05:42They're flying. Let's hope it can continue.
