Transcript
00:00West Ham United 0, Newcastle United 1 here at the London Stadium tonight and this is
00:05a night where it was more about the results rather than performance for Newcastle United
00:09because it wasn't a pretty one out there, both teams lacked quality, it was a tight
00:14scrappy game but Newcastle managed to find a much needed win after a really challenging
00:19week of course last week. Anthony Gordon suspended for the final, three match ban and then news
00:25of Lewis Hall and Sven Botman both injured requiring surgery so they'll be without the
00:29final as well and results going against Newcastle over the weekend seeing them drop from sixth
00:35to ninth so it was a big test of character here tonight and again albeit the performance
00:39wasn't great they managed to come away with a much needed win and they've actually moved
00:43up to sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester City in fifth so
00:48they keep intact with the European places. Now focus turns to Sunday, Newcastle don't
00:58play another Premier League game for nearly a month, first week of April is when the next
01:02Premier League action, Carabao Cup final and international break so yeah it all boils down
01:07to Sunday, a massive game, the biggest of Newcastle's season of course, important thing
01:13tonight is that they came through unscathed, key players like Alexander Isak came off at
01:19the end but wasn't an injury so Newcastle go into the final, it's going to be an extremely
01:25tough game, Liverpool 15 points to get to the top of the Premier League, will probably
01:32go for the Champions League after their first leg win against Paris Saint-Germain in Paris
01:37so they're playing arguably the best team in Europe at this moment in time but anything
01:44can happen in cup finals and hopefully Newcastle can harvest some good feeling from tonight
01:48and hopefully go into that final with some confidence and that 70-year wait for a domestic
01:56trophy. A lot of selection dilemmas probably answered by you out tonight, was it going
02:01to be Nick Pope or Martin de Bravka in goal, Nick Pope got the nod, tonight Harvey Barnes
02:06on the left hand side who was actually really heavily involved for Newcastle had two chances
02:12in the first half, set up Bruno Guimaraes' goal, Joe Linton in midfield, Tripp Yard right
02:19back who was actually really good tonight, team Liverpool were left back so I suspect
02:23that the team we've seen tonight will probably be the one that takes the field in the Carabao
02:29Cup final unless Eddie Howard's playing Pogba and might throw that ball off a bit but yeah
02:34they got the win tonight, hopefully they can build on that and Carabao Cup final up next
02:40what can you say about it, the games feature itself, it's enormous, let's see if Newcastle
02:45can go there and get a result and that long wait for a trophy.
