00:00Hey Boomer.
00:01Hey Greg.
00:02Hey, listen, I hear your other partners haven't shown up today with a little snow and all
00:05of a sudden these guys turned into snowflakes or what?
00:08I, you know, I don't know what the deal is.
00:10Probably some angst over tech talk.
00:12I know that really bothered you yesterday when you lost, that bothered me, but I just
00:16wanted to start out by saying, Hey, happy Martin Luther King day and happy inauguration
00:21day, man.
00:22Things are happening, baby.
00:23Let's go.
00:24They are happening.
00:25And, uh, we know which four teams will try to win their way to the super bowl.
00:30I, last night's game I thought was the game of the weekend, obviously.
00:36And I, you feel for Andrews, do you not Boomer?
00:40I do.
00:41I feel also for Lamar.
00:42You know, Lamar had two big turnovers in the first half.
00:44Everybody tends to forget them because he plays a pretty good second half and brings
00:48his team all the way down.
00:50They fell on two, two point conversions and that last throw to Mark Andrews, he short
00:54armed it.
00:55He didn't really throw it.
00:56Like he tried to throw it like it was a dart and, uh, it was a tough catch for Andrews.
01:01Normally sure handed a guy that always makes that catch.
01:05And it's unfortunate that they had the fumble, uh, you know, earlier in that quarter.
01:08But, um, it was a great game.
01:10It was a really hard fought game.
01:11And to me, three out of the four games came down to one particular statistic and that
01:16is turnovers.
01:17And the lions had turnovers, the Rams had turnovers and the Ravens had turnovers.
01:23And that's how they lost.
01:24The only team that didn't have any turnovers and lost were the Texans.
01:27But then again, you could say the officials turned that game over right into the hands
01:30of the Kansas city chiefs.
01:31If you had to guess who's the MVP, Oh, it's gotta be Lamar.
01:36I mean, it's, it doesn't matter.
01:37Yesterday's game doesn't matter.
01:38Uh, it's already been voted on the all pro quarterback is, uh, is Lamar Lamar had a season
01:43for the agents ages.
01:45That doesn't take anything away from, uh, Josh Allen.
01:48He's a beast.
01:49He played like it yesterday, played smart football, didn't turn the ball over.
01:53And you know, that's really what it comes down to in these games.
01:55That's how close these teams are.
01:58And I think he'll get the MVP.
01:59There's no question Lamar will, um, his, uh, his year was ridiculous.
02:04Over 40 touchdowns, less than 10 interception, less than five interceptions, I think.
02:09And 900 yards on the ground and over 4,000 yards in the air.
02:12That's an unprecedented season by any quarterback and any standard that you put out there.
02:17I can't remember a post game where more players and even coaches were suggesting some sort
02:24of, uh, far reaching, uh, NFL referee conspiracy than, uh, the one this weekend.
02:31Um, we, we talked actually last week, I think it was last week or maybe the week before
02:37about Patrick Mahomes and about quarterbacks and whether, you know, whether the slide needs
02:43to be respected.
02:44I mean, I, where do you stand on that?
02:47Having had a day or two to think about it, watching it in real time, I didn't think either
02:51one of the penalties that were called against the Texans were penalties.
02:55And the second one was ridiculous.
02:57And there is a certain, I guess, uh, respect that certain quarterbacks get just because
03:02of who they are.
03:03And you know what?
03:04Remember officials are human beings too.
03:06They know what game they know, what players they're playing with.
03:09Uh, they also understand the way the league wants, uh, these players to be treated.
03:15I just think it was ridiculous, especially when you compare it to some of the other hits
03:19that quarterbacks around the league took this weekend, especially the one that Jared Goff
03:23took on the interception towards the end of the second quarter.
03:26He gets hit under the chin, his head, the back of his head hits the, uh, the ground.
03:30And this is how you're concussed.
03:32And I do believe that, uh, Jared Goff played with a concussion the entire second half.
03:37If it were a regular season game, he would have been pulled out, uh, somehow, some way
03:41he wrangled his way back on the field.
03:43They knew that they needed him, but all the turnovers that he had to me were a result
03:48of a concussion that he was playing with.
03:50Now, again, this is speculation on my part.
03:53I give that speculation because I do have the credibility played.
03:56Had that happened to me many times in many games when the concussion really wasn't taking
04:00all that seriously.
04:02And it just goes to show you how important the game was obviously for Detroit and the
04:05emotion that Dan Campbell showed after the game, but, uh, he didn't receive the same
04:10respect that Patrick Mahomes received.
04:12And by the way, Tom Brady, for all those years of brilliance and greatness, there were times
04:17in his games where things like that would happen as well, both when he was in Tampa
04:22and in new England.
04:23Yeah.
04:24But he, he, he didn't embarrass himself by embellishing it.
04:28I mean, it's, you know, the F is supposed to stand for football, not flopping.
04:33Yeah, I know he flopped on the sideline.
04:35I know.
04:36And it's not a good look.
04:37I understand that.
04:38And, you know, he doesn't need to do that.
04:40And, you know, I understand why he's doing it, but, you know, even like if LeBron James
04:44flops in a game or Patrick Mahomes flops in a game, or I don't, Connor McDavid would flop
04:49in a game.
04:50Uh, you know, obviously it's a unbecoming of who they are as players.
04:54And then of course, all the fans who hate that team and hate that player are going to
04:59amplify all of that stuff on social media.
05:01That's what I was saying.
05:03You know, I was getting involved a little bit in the social media stuff because what
05:05I'm sick of as a former player and a fan of the league, and I love the game and I love
05:11the players that play the game and I appreciate the brilliance and the toughness that they
05:15have to have when they're playing.
05:17But I hate the inconsistencies, how one quarterback is treated differently than the other.
05:23Even Lamar Jackson, uh, I think it was got tackled out of bounds last night and was not,
05:29and there was no flag to that.
05:30And that, if I think that if that's Patrick Mahomes, there's probably going to be a call
05:34there.
05:35And that's the thought process that the NFL hates that we have as fans and the conspiracy
05:40theories that are running wild on social media.
05:43I will never say the game is fixed because I played the game.
05:47I had bad calls go against us.
05:49I had bad calls go for us.
05:51And I know how much we as human beings and fire and athletes put into these games.
05:56Uh, it's too physical.
05:58It's too nasty for these games to be fixed.
06:00So I don't want to go down that conspiracy rabbit hole, but I will say that there are
06:05certain players that do receive a little bit more respect than others.
06:09We talk about the commanders a lot around here because they had the same record that
06:13our new England Patriots had last season.
06:15That turnaround boomer, I, you know, I know it's new ownership, but you got the right
06:21guy at quarterback, but is that pretty amazing where they are in a year?
06:24Yeah, it's nothing short of a miracle actually.
06:27So they hired an ex coach.
06:28I don't think anybody was overly excited that Dan Quinn got the job, you know, because of
06:33what happened to him in Atlanta and how that kind of fizzled towards the end of his career
06:37there.
06:38But, um, you know, he was the steadying ship and that's why if I were one of these teams
06:41looking for coaches, I'm not, I, I'm not inclined to hire a first time head coach just simply
06:49because it there's too, it's too big of a job.
06:51It's a beast job, but I know you got to start somewhere.
06:55And I would think certain teams like maybe new Orleans would go with an assistant coach.
06:59I don't know if the bears are going to go with one.
07:01The jets certainly shouldn't go with one.
07:04And I know that Aaron Glenn seems to be top of the list, but his defense looked disorganized
07:08and disheveled, uh, in this game, uh, against, you know, against, uh, Jaden Daniels.
07:14But you know, it's, uh, sounds like Tom, sounds like Tom Brady and the Raiders may go with
07:18one too.
07:19Yeah.
07:20I don't, I mean, they still have to hire a GM as well.
07:22Now if it's Ben Johnson, it's a different story.
07:25I think a lot of people feel like Ben Johnson is the guy authentically.
07:28I would also tell you that Bobby Slowick for the Houston Texans called a great game against
07:34Houston.
07:35They had over 430 total yards, I think, uh, against the Kansas city chief.
07:39So he's another one to keep an eye on.
07:41I just, there's certain teams and certain organizations that need to have somebody with
07:47head coaching experience.
07:48That's why to me, like Brian Flores would be the safest pick for the jets.
07:53I think John Gruden would have been a great pick for the jets, but nobody's interviewing
07:57him given all those email exchanges and everything else.
08:00But um, I, if they go with Aaron Glenn, good luck to Aaron.
08:03He's a former teammate of mine, but I just think that this job is just such a, such a
08:08landmine job and, and it's not one that a new newly minted head coach should, should
08:13get.
08:14Finally, who do you like tonight?
08:16And I'm not talking about the village people or, or Lee Greenwood playing at the inaugural
08:23balls.
08:24Yeah.
08:25Well, that was last night, by the way.
08:26And I did enjoy that as well.
08:27And I can't wait to watch today.
08:28I cannot wait.
08:29I mean, America is going to be on a new path, man.
08:31I don't care what anybody says.
08:33And it's about time, man.
08:34I'm all in, but I will say this, I like Ohio state tonight.
08:38And the reason I like Ohio state, they're loaded everywhere.
08:42And you know, Notre Dame likes to play a lot of man coverage defensively.
08:46And if that is the case, and if Ohio state's passing game is on, they got two unbelievable
08:51wide receivers who both will be first round draft picks when it's their turn.
08:56So I think the first kid, uh, I think his name is he'll come out this year.
09:01And then of course, uh, the other kid, the freshmen will come out next year or maybe
09:05the year after that, I guess.
09:07But if you can't cover those kids and they really didn't do that much in their last game,
09:12this game, I think they have a huge game.
09:13So I do like Ohio state tonight.
09:15Having a week to digest Mike Vrabel, I love it.
09:19You love it.
09:20Okay.
09:21So I wonder, this is, I was thinking about this and I don't know if you guys talked about
09:24it up there.
09:25Maybe when you have Mon again, you can ask him because I know he hasn't named his offensive
09:28or defense coordinators, right?
09:30Yep.
09:31Okay.
09:32So I'm assuming that it's going to be Josh McDaniels.
09:33And then I started to think, you know, the one thing about all the parcel, uh, Belichick
09:39guys that went on to move on to head coaching places and GM places, every time they went
09:46into a building, what they did is they fired everybody that was there because they didn't
09:51trust anybody.
09:52I'm wondering, you know, it, does he hire Josh or is there a trust factor that may get
09:59in the way of hiring Josh because he's tied to the old regime?
10:04You know what I mean?
10:05That kind of thing.
10:06Yeah.
10:07Well, I, I, he lit the world on fire by talking on this show about, you know, the, uh, general
10:14when a quarterback throws over 50 times, you know, you only win 22% of those games.
10:19He lost their mind thinking he's only going to run the football, but I, I, I like the
10:24strategy.
10:25I like somebody who's thinking about that all the time.
10:27And I know what the, you look at these playoffs, you'd better run the ball, better have a big
10:32offensive line.
10:33You better have a big running back and you better be able to run the football.
10:36Even whether it's the quarterback in the case of, you know, the bills with James Cook and
10:40Josh Allen, you have to run the football, especially late in the season, in the play,
10:47in the playoffs when the weather is just awful, uh, you have to be able to run the
10:51ball.
10:52So that's what he's really alluding to.
10:53Yeah.
10:54All right.
10:55Boomer.
10:56Well, it's been great once again, having you on the show.
10:57And honestly, I don't think we need the other guys who just do, do it like this.
11:01You and I every week next year, this is a, I'm fine with this man.
11:04Well, I like Courtney, so wigs, I don't know about never know with him anyway.
11:09All right.
11:10Boomer.
11:11We'll talk to you.
11:12Okay.
11:13See you, Greg.
