00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most burning questions
00:13we have leading into Severance Season 2.
00:15Be warned, refiners, there are major spoilers ahead.
00:18And please, try to enjoy all entries equally.
00:2210. Cobell's Motivations
00:29Harmony Cobell may be one of the most captivating TV villains we've seen in some time.
00:34That is, given she's a villain at all.
00:40Cobell is both the head of the Severed Floor at Lumen,
00:43and Mark S.'s seemingly harmless, albeit quite nosy neighbor.
00:47While we spent a fair deal of time watching her integrate herself,
00:50pun intended, into Mark's personal life,
00:53what we never fully come to understand is why.
00:56Are you really asking me that?
00:59Yeah. What is it we actually do here?
01:05We serve Kier!
01:07Do her motives have something to do with Jemma's alleged death and re-emergence
01:11on the Severed Floor?
01:12Does she have some personal stake in the Severance process?
01:15Is she actually as dedicated to serving Kier as she claims?
01:18No matter what the true reason is,
01:20we imagine the truth is far from Milchik's freaky explanation.
01:24We believe she developed an erotic fixation on you,
01:28and had plans to pursue both you and your outie in what might be termed a thruple.
01:34What?
01:349. The New MDR
01:37You can leave the balloons in the foyer by my old desk.
01:40We've much to discuss, and I don't want them distracting you.
01:43The premiere episode of Severance's second season
01:46surely spawned more questions than answers for expectant fans.
01:49Which, to be fair, is exactly what we anticipated.
01:52Of them, one of the more curious developments was the new group of refiners
01:56brought in to replace the rest of Mark's team following their uprising.
02:00I suppose you're Mark S.
02:04I'm Mark W.
02:10Who are you people?
02:11Apparently, they were in part transferred over from a defunct Lumen brand,
02:15assuming that they were to be retired permanently.
02:18So what happened to their previous branch?
02:21Also, exactly how many Lumen branches are there?
02:24Is the fact that one of them was shut down indicative of larger problems
02:27at the company that we're not yet privy to?
02:30And finally, will we ever see this new MDR team again?
02:33Time will tell.
02:34We tried for weeks to get them back, Mark.
02:38None of them agreed.
02:408. Dylan's outie life
02:43Okay, so what is going on?
02:44We're not in trouble?
02:45I don't think so.
02:46I mean, Milchik said our message got out.
02:47He said we're famous.
02:49All of us equally, or one of us is like the star?
02:51We don't care what anyone says.
02:53Dylan is the star of macrodata refinement.
02:56Having surrendered himself to manning the control board
02:58during their overtime contingency rebellion,
03:01we, the audience, see the least of Dylan in his outie form.
03:04Though we previously learned that he has a son,
03:06that's really all we know about his life on the outside.
03:09Milchik manipulatively discloses to him that he has two other children
03:13and a wife named Gretchen.
03:15But we find it hard to believe anything he says at face value.
03:18We have to wonder, what motivated Dylan to be severed?
03:22Famine, plagues, etc.
03:24So what is a desperate humanity to do?
03:28We can make some assumptions.
03:29Perhaps the pay or the benefits are particularly good
03:32for someone supporting a family.
03:34But knowing severance, we can't imagine the answer to be so simple.
03:37Maybe Dylan's outie has a dark secret that we're yet to learn.
03:41And no, we're not talking about the Milfs.
03:43I like to imagine my outie's love made with a Milfer 2,
03:46which is obviously badass, but I do pity the husbands.
03:49Number 7.
03:50The Security Office
03:52I think it's time for a field trip.
03:54To the security office where all the security guards work.
03:57Amazing, yeah.
03:58Speaking of the rebellion, when MDR breaks into the security office,
04:02we see a whole slew of control options available to management,
04:05which correspond with settings in the severed employee's chips.
04:08We know this to be the case,
04:10as this led to their ability to wake themselves up on the outside.
04:13So what else can they do with those pesky little mind control devices?
04:16I'll be upstairs after to let you know how it went.
04:21Sorry if I freak out on you a little.
04:25Don't worry, I'm very excited to meet you.
04:28There are settings like elephant, clean slate in Glasgow,
04:31which for now we can only make inferences about.
04:33But based on their names, they all have some connection to the mind,
04:37memory, and consciousness.
04:38For example, Glasgow is a term used in the measurement of brain function
04:42in patients in comas, and an elephant never forgets.
04:46As for clean slate, that one sounds pretty self-explanatory, and bleak.
04:51Will we see these functions come into play at some point?
04:53For the plot, we hope so.
04:55For the employee's mental state, not so much.
04:58I really wouldn't mention this to your colleagues, Dylan.
05:02This OTC is pretty neat to know.
05:05Understand?
05:06Number 6.
05:07Irv's paintings.
05:08I was just going in.
05:09I was admiring the art while I wait.
05:13When Irv wakes up on the outside during the overtime contingency,
05:17he's in the midst of painting a dark hallway,
05:19and at the end of which, a red elevator button shining down.
05:22We keen observers recognize this as the path to the testing floor,
05:26which we'd seen Miss Casey disappear into.
05:28First of all, what does Lumen do to employees on the testing floor?
05:32Why has Irv been there?
05:33And why does his outie have an obsessive recollection of it?
05:36I'm so sorry, sir. I'm just so sorry.
05:39Look, no one is hankering to throw you in the break room.
05:42We'll do a wellness check with Miss Casey and go from there, all right?
05:45Early in the first season,
05:47there are indications that his memories seem to be converging in a mysterious way,
05:51as Black Goop visually bleeds into his innies perception while at work.
05:55We know that he has a long history with the company,
05:57but has he been reset in a way that's unique to the others?
06:00I'm sorry. Please don't respond to any specific fact.
06:05That's 10 points off.
06:06I was just-
06:07Please don't speak further,
06:09or all remaining points will be deducted and the wellness session will end.
06:13Number 5. Rigabi and reintegration.
06:16You okay?
06:25Sorry. Reintegration sickness.
06:29The concept of reintegration is a particularly head-scratching one.
06:33When we meet Petey on the outside,
06:35we learn that he's undergone a procedure to converge his severance chip,
06:39so that he has access to both his outie and innie memories.
06:42This ultimately kills him, as there was a failure in the maintenance process,
06:46which we later hear from the rogue Rigabi.
06:48I'm sorry. Who are you?
06:50I'm the one who helped your friend.
06:53Helped? You mean reintegration?
06:55Killed him.
06:56The procedure didn't kill Petey.
06:58If he had followed my post-op instructions and not simply run away at the first sign of sickness.
07:02Rigabi claims that she installed the devices,
07:05and now aims to reverse the terrible work that she's done.
07:08We see very little of her,
07:09so it's challenging to know exactly, for lack of a better phrase,
07:13what her deal is.
07:14Now, not yet having seen any developments in the outie world since the events of the finale,
07:18there's a theory swirling that Mark may have opted to reintegrate.
07:22We can't know this for sure,
07:23but we have a hunch that Rigabi's character will return,
07:26and that we'll learn more about this puzzling procedure.
07:29I think you want to do what's right.
07:33Both of you.
07:34Number 4.
07:35Hallie or Helena?
07:36Gabby, this is Helena Egan.
07:40Oh my gosh, Helena.
07:42So good to finally meet you.
07:47Likewise.
07:48Arguably the biggest twist of the season one finale is the reveal that Hallie is actually
07:52Helena Egan, Lumen CEO's daughter.
07:55When she wakes up outside,
07:56she brashly reveals that she's actually Hallie,
07:59and that she's miserable on the inside.
08:01When she returns to work in the premiere,
08:03she makes the interesting choice to lie to her team about her outie's identity.
08:07I was watching some nature show on TV wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt.
08:12What kind of t-shirt?
08:14Did it feature like a band or pocket?
08:17It was like a Save the Gorillas shirt.
08:20Cool.
08:21I guess.
08:22This has raised the question,
08:24is the person we've seen back in MDR actually Hallie?
08:27Or is Helena posing as her innie self to sabotage their operation?
08:31There's a tiny easter egg that may be intended to imply the latter,
08:34as Hallie's newest file to refine is titled Santa Mira,
08:38which may be an allusion to Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
08:41Less than a month ago, Santa Mira was like any other town.
08:44People with nothing but problems.
08:47Then out of the sky came a solution.
08:49Number 3.
08:50The Goats.
08:51Careful out there boss.
08:54Weird energy about.
08:55No, we're not calling MDR the goats, even though they are.
08:58We're talking about the literal goats that Hallie and Mark stumble upon
09:02when they're exploring the severed floor.
09:04They're not ready.
09:07You can't take them yet, they're not ready.
09:10It isn't time.
09:12We only see them and their frazzled handler that one time,
09:16and there's never any indication as to why they're there,
09:19or what they're going to be used for.
09:21But once again, we can use some of our outie knowledge
09:23and context clues to try and fill in the blanks here.
09:26Scientifically, goats have been used for cloning research since 1999,
09:30so there's likely some genetic experimentation going on at Lumen,
09:34which is being tested on this misplaced herd of cattle.
09:36What if the goats are the numbers?
09:39Like we're deciding which goats live in which ones.
09:42Oh God.
09:43I doubt it's that.
09:44Number 2.
09:45Where is Gemma?
09:46Why is everything in boxes?
09:48Evidently, Lumen's been blessed with a new wellness director.
09:52Now onto what may have been the biggest twist of the first season as a whole,
09:56the revelation that Mark S's wife, who was presumed dead,
09:59is actually alive as a severed employee at Lumen.
10:01As we mentioned earlier, we know that her severed counterpart,
10:04Ms. Casey, was sent down to the testing floor,
10:07but that's the last we see of her.
10:08Could I just-
10:09I'm sorry.
10:11I just have so much to do today.
10:13On you go.
10:14The final frames of the season 2 premiere seem to suggest that Gemma is alive,
10:19as we see her face in what appears to be some vitals flash on Mark's screen.
10:23While this clearly wasn't visible to Mark,
10:25this also implies that the work that he's doing at MDR has some bearing on Gemma's life.
10:29This will surely be a major plot point in season 2,
10:32and we're on the edge of our seats waiting to learn more.
10:36She's one of us.
10:40So if you want to help your Audi,
10:42so if you want to help your Audi,
10:44and find out what happened to her,
10:48I'll help.
10:49Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel

11:00If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
11:05And finally, the question on everyone's mind.
11:08Why are you a child?
11:12Because of when I was born.
11:14Oh wait, they answered that one.
11:15Never mind.
11:16Number 1.
11:17So what's MDR?
11:19I'm agog at how well I can tell you're already fitting in.
11:24The office feels whole.
11:27Now.
11:29Let's get this party started.
11:30We keep making reference to MDR, or Macro Data Refinement,
11:34which is the lumen department in which Mark, Heli, Irv, and Dylan are bound.
11:38But no one actually knows what they're doing or why they're doing it.
11:41The work is mysterious and important.
11:45And we deal with the uncertainty it brings us in the way that Keir would have wanted.
11:51Together.
11:53As a family.
11:54They're tasked with fencing off numbers on their screens,
11:57which are meant to make them feel a specific emotion.
12:00And as we predicted in the previous entry,
12:02it seems that there's some connection between MDR and the employees themselves.
12:06Though it's still entirely unclear.
12:08However, the fact that the team must be severed to complete their work,
12:12and that their innies are kept in the dark as well,
12:14seems to exhibit that there's something sinister happening in Macro Data Refinement.
12:19The surest way to tame a prisoner is to let him believe he's free.
12:23There's a cure quote for everything.
12:25Do you have theories about any of the questions we posed here?
12:28Fire them off in the comments.
12:30But I'm smart.
12:32That's why I have three times as many finger traps as you guys.
12:35Do you agree with our picks?
