00:00The 2025 Oscar nominations are out, so what were the big surprises and who got snubbed?
00:05We're breaking it all down.
00:07A number of big names, including some past Oscar favorites like Angelina Jolie,
00:11Denzel Washington, and Nicole Kidman missed out on recognition this year.
00:14Maria was an expected nominee in multiple categories,
00:17but only got one nomination for cinematography.
00:19Not only was two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington left out of the best supporting
00:23actor category for his work in Gladiator 2, the film also only earned one nomination
00:29for best costume design. Baby Girl, starring Nicole Kidman,
00:31was racking up nominations and awards earlier this season, but received no Oscar noms this morning.
00:36Another film that also got shut out was Challengers,
00:39despite being in the awards conversation all season.
00:42Star Zendaya, director Luca Guadagnino, and even Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross,
00:46who won at the Golden Globes for best score, failed to receive a single Oscar nomination.
00:51The Challengers director also saw his other awards hopeful film,
00:54Queer, miss out on nominations, including for star Daniel Craig,
00:57who was seen as a possible Best Actor nominee.
01:00In the Best Supporting Actress category, both Margaret Qualley for The Substance
01:04and Selena Gomez for Amelia Perez missed out on expected nominations.
01:08Meanwhile, Monica Barbaro landed a surprise nod for her role in A Complete Unknown.
01:12Robert Eggers' vampire film Nosferatu received more recognition than expected with four nominations.
01:18Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part 2 landed a Best Picture nomination,
01:21but got much less awards love than its predecessor.
01:24Despite Wicked having a big morning picking up the second most nominations,
01:28director Jon M. Chu was shut out of the Best Director category.
01:31And in the Best Picture category, Sing Sing, September 5th,
01:34and A Real Pain all missed out on nominations, despite the latter two landing PGA Award noms,
01:39while Nickel Boys and I'm Still Here were surprise Best Picture nominees.
