00:10Even more, his anti-narcotics crusade while mayor of the city earned him meritorious feedback

00:16from the PDEA and his constituents.

00:19But though he has been granted clemency by the president as a result of a missive sent

00:24by his lawyer a couple months ago, the criminal charges against former Iloilo City Mayor Jed

00:30Mabilog have not been expunged and have yet to be litigated as our Kezel Pertilia reports.

00:39Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog has been granted executive clemency by President Ferdinand

00:45R. Marquez Jr., effectively lifting the administrative penalties and disabilities imposed on him.

00:51Mabilog, who was accused by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016 of being a drug protector

00:57and included in the administration's narco list, earlier recalled the hardships he endured

01:03during the House Squadcom hearing in 2024.

01:48Following Duterte's allegations, Mabilog fled the country in August 2017 due to threats to

01:54his life. This resulted in his failure to defend himself against administrative charges filed in

02:002013, which ultimately led to a guilty verdict by the ombudsman for serious dishonesty over

02:06unexplained wealth amounting to 8.9 million pesos. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated,

02:31under that decision of the ombudsman could be should be expunged. You will also recall that

02:38he was forced to leave the country because of a threat on his life that he perceived to be

02:45coming from the national leadership at the time. President Duterte accused him of being the

02:52drug lord in Iloilo City. Despite the controversy, the palace recognized Mabilog's positive

03:01contributions to Iloilo City. Under his leadership, the city was named a livable city by the National

03:06Competitiveness Council of the Philippines and his anti-illegal drug campaign was commanded by

03:11the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in 2016. With executive clemency, Mabilog's civil rights

03:17have also been restored, including his eligibility to run for public office,

03:22Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary John Vicremolla said.
