A 31-year-old man has been sentenced by a Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur to five months in prison and a RM2,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to criminally intimidating the ex-wife of comedian and actor Harith Iskander via text message.

00:00The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court sentenced a 31-year-old man to five months in prison
00:11and a fine of 2,000 ringgit on Friday.
00:14The accused, Izzuddin Madsalim, had pleaded guilty to a charge of criminally intimidating
00:20the ex-wife of comedian and actor Harith Iskander via a text message.
00:25According to the charge sheet, Izzuddin had sent a WhatsApp with a photo that contained
00:29threatening words which meant that he would commit rape and murder.
00:34The message was received and read by Harith's ex-wife, Dr. Jezamin Lim, who is also his
00:42manager, at a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur at 8.50am on January 23.
00:48The charge, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum of seven years in
00:54jail or a fine or both, upon conviction.
00:58During proceedings, Izzuddin, who was unrepresented, apologized for his action and said he had
01:04only intended to play with Harith's emotions.
01:08Magistrate S. Majiswari ordered the accused to serve another month in jail if he fails
01:11to pay the fine.
01:14When met at the court complex, Harith said he respected the court's decision and described
01:19the apology by the accused as being directed to the magistrate instead of him.
01:24Lim, who was teary-eyed, declined to comment.
