00:00The Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro welcomed Donald Trump's special envoy and proposed
00:14a zero agenda with the U.S. government.
00:21On the 4th day of exchange of detainees between Israel and Hamas takes place, 183 Palestinian
00:35prisoners were handed over to Gaza in exchange for three Israeli detainees.
00:47Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios in Havana,
00:51Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
00:53The President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro welcomed Donald Trump's special envoy and
00:57proposed a zero agenda with the U.S. government.
01:00The Venezuelan President received Richard Grenell in response to the request of President
01:04Trump, who has proposed seeking a way to resume relations between both nations.
01:09President Maduro proposed a zero agenda with the purpose of fine-tuning details and reviewing
01:13what has been developed in the last few years regarding bilateral relations.
01:17Let us remember that the Venezuelan head of state has emphasized that he is open to dialogue
01:22with the United States as long as it is respectful, public and open, where consensual agreements
01:28are reached and no imposition is sought in any way.
01:31President Maduro said that the meeting was positive, emphasizing that Venezuela will
01:34always practice peace diplomacy.
01:43Today we also received the visit of a special envoy of the President of the United States
01:48of America Donald Trump.
01:50We have already issued an explanatory communique.
01:53Ambassador Richard Greene came and had a good conversation with the peace envoy coordinator
01:59of Venezuela, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, with the Vice President of the Republic, and then.
02:07In Office 1 of the Presidential Palace of Miraflores, we had a frank and open direct
02:12conversation.
02:30I can say that it was positive.
02:33We practice the Bolivarian diplomacy of peace.
02:37And whoever wants to talk, we will always talk, and whoever knocks on the door, we will
02:41always open it.
02:43And in Venezuela, the Viva Piedad exhibition in honor of the life and work of Colombian
02:53Senator Piedad Córdoba concluded in the city of Caracas.
02:56During the event, attendees highlighted the legacy of the Colombian human rights activists.
03:01The event was headed by the Minister of Women, Johanna Carrillo, and the President of Telesur,
03:05Patricia Villegas, who highlighted Piedad's commitment to Latin American social causes
03:10and her eternal bond with Venezuela and the leader of the Bolivarian revolution, Hugo
03:14Chávez Frías.
03:20And preparations are underway in Brazil for the United Nations Climate Change Summit.
03:25Our correspondent, Ignacio Lemus, with the details.
03:30A mission of the United Nations organization visited Belém, the capital of the state of
03:35Pará, where the UN Climate Change Summit will be held at the end of 2025.
03:40The event in the Amazon promises to be not only the first summit in South America, but
03:44also the one with the greatest participation of social and indigenous movements.
03:52I am going to start holding meetings with the leaders of the movements to discuss how
03:55this format will be, because it will happen.
04:00What is the role of the government in this process?
04:03What is the role of the social movements in this COP process?
04:06How will this happen in the spaces that will be managed by the UN and the federal government?
04:10In the spaces of the city where the organized movements will be, how will this take place?
04:15How will the process of influencing the accumulation of debate of the social movements to influence
04:20the decisions of the heads of state be?
04:25Four hundred leaders of the Landless Movement, the largest social organization in Brazil,
04:32began the year in Belém with a national congress to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the
04:38movement and to outline the agenda of struggles.
04:40For more than two weeks, about 300 indigenous people and teachers have been occupying the
04:45education secretariat of the state of Pará against an educational reform promoted by
04:49the local government that aims to withdraw education from indigenous villages and other
04:54cuts in socio-environmental policies.
04:59No reform in education should be carried out without listening to those who need to be
05:03heard.
05:04It is not enough to listen to the companies, to the large landowners, to the economic power.
05:10It is necessary to listen to those who are affected, to the traditional peoples of the
05:13riverbanks, to the Landless Movement, among others.
05:22On the domestic scene, the government faces anti-environmental projects in Congress, but
05:26it is also the territory where ministries such as the environment, indigenous peoples,
05:31agrarian reform and racial equality face extractivist projects in the ministries of mines and energy,
05:37agriculture and transportation.
05:39Lula nominated Ambassador André Correa do Lago as president of COP30, a relevant figure
05:45in international negotiation processes and a favorite among environmentalists.
05:50The international panorama changed.
05:52After Donald Trump took office, the U.S. left the Paris Agreement.
05:59Obviously, I think that discussing the Paris Agreement, not sending money to the World
06:05Health Organization, is a step backwards for human civilization.
06:13For its part, France has asked the European Union to suspend indefinitely the implementation
06:18of environmental and human rights standards, arguing that they generate high costs for
06:23companies.
06:27The organized civil society at the official G20 proposed to strengthen the Brazilian proposal
06:32to have a tariff on the super-rich and that this be reverted into public policies to combat
06:36hunger and finance the fight against climate change.
06:40How will this debate be conducted now?
06:48The first Amazonian COP will be the territory where social movements will be the voice of
06:52developing or underdeveloped countries to demand from the central countries of capitalism
06:56measures to confront, adapt to, and mitigate climate change.
07:05Peruvian President Dina Boloarte reshuffled her cabinet on Friday, surrounding three new
07:10ministers including the economy minister for the third time.
07:13José Salardi, who was minister of production in 2020, will now assume economy and finance
07:18to replace José Arista, strongly criticized for delays with regional budgets.
07:23As minister of social development, she appointed Leslie Urteaga, who was minister of culture
07:28and protagonist of the Machu Picchu privatization scandal.
07:31She will replace Julio Demartini, accused of corruption with aid to the poorest children
07:37in the country.
07:38She also replaced Ángela Hernández, minister of women, who normalizes sexual abuse of indigenous
07:43children and has appointed Fanny Montellos to replace her.
07:52When a United Nations delegation headed by Under-Secretary-General Miroslav Janka arrived
07:57in Haiti, Prime Minister Alex Didier received the diplomats in Port-au-Prince where they
08:02expressed their agreement on the need to call for elections.
08:05After unsuccessfully trying solutions by force, with the sending of security elements from
08:10several countries, they are analyzing a political solution to a crisis that, according to the
08:15Office of the United Nations High Commissioner, leaves 13 Haitians dead every day due to violence.
08:21The organization also states that the number of internally displaced people has doubled
08:25in just six months.
08:27We now have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Teleslinglish

09:00Philadelphia, scattering debris over a wide area and causing extensive damage to homes
09:04and vehicles.
09:06The plane, which the Federal Aviation Administration said was a Learjet 55 executive aircraft,
09:11was bound for Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri and had taken off from
09:16an airport in northeast Philadelphia.
09:19The crash in the U.S. East Coast city comes just two days after a passenger jet and a
09:23military helicopter collided off Washington's Reagan National Airport.
09:29U.S. President Donald Trump promised to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China on products
09:38such as oil, gas, microchips, and steel.
09:41He also intends to do the same with the European Union.
09:45The Republican Party had said prior that Mexico, Canada, and China can do nothing to
09:49stop it.
09:50Trump has accused the three countries of not doing enough to combat fentanyl trafficking
09:54and Canada and Mexico of allowing illegal migration to the United States.
09:58However, Trump specified that Canadian oil, which accounts for 60 percent of U.S. imports
10:03in this sector, could be taxed a little less.
10:06Several important elements are unknown, such as the scope of the tariffs and the legal
10:11tools that Donald Trump will use to justify the decision.
10:41And the government of Mexico ratified their will to dialogue with the government of the
10:57United States in view of the confirmation of imposing tariffs of 25 percent on products
11:01imported from Mexico City.
11:04President Klaus Schengen reported that there is a dialogue table with the U.S. government
11:07in which talks are being held on the issue of tariffs and immigration, prioritizing the
11:12welfare and human rights of citizens.
11:14She also pointed out that she has plans for decisions taken by Washington, emphasizing
11:19that she will defend the dignity of the Mexican people and their sovereignty without subordination.
11:31It is very important for the people of Mexico to know that we will always defend the dignity
11:35of our people.
11:37We will always defend respect for our sovereignty and dialogue as equals, as we have always
11:42mentioned, without subordination.
11:47Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, stated that the objective of the BRICS-Plus
11:52is to create new investment platforms in response to the tariff threats made by Donald Trump.
11:57Trump's spokesman responded to President Donald Trump's recent statements about imposing tariffs
12:01of up to 100 percent on member nations of the BRICS-Plus block in the event of creating
12:06an alternative currency to the dollar.
12:09In his statement, the spokesman said that President Vladimir Putin stated that in the
12:12BRICS there has been no discussion of or talk of creating a common currency.
12:17He also recommended to the President of the United States that his expert advisors explain
12:21the BRICS agenda to him in more detail.
12:29The Russian government announced that it will seek alternatives so that the Transnistrian
12:33region of Moldova, a border area with Ukraine, can receive gas through alternative routes
12:38and thus resolve the current crisis.
12:40Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova assured that the competent authorities
12:45are working to send humanitarian gas supplies.
12:48Zakharova also said that she expects a constructive approach from all sides to urgently resolve
12:52the crisis with the energy supply of Transnistria.
12:56Moldova has found itself in a gas crisis due to Ukraine's ban on transit of Russian
13:00gas through its territory and Moldova's refusal to pay debts to Moscow, which are
13:05estimated at 709 million U.S. dollars.
