00:00Paul, you're enjoying being back now, you've got three wins, does it make you feel younger?
00:12I've got to say, no, I enjoyed hearing the crowd. I thought the second half of the period
00:19where the crowd were brilliant, really were. I think that's the bit of what I'm hearing
00:24because I've been at other clubs recently and maybe not, the last few years have been
00:30difficult, but that was more like, I can remember today. I think that's the bit I'm enjoying
00:38actually. I'm finding it hard to celebrate at the moment because you don't know if you're
00:41going to get the goal chopped off, but I'm celebrating my own way. It was a great goal.
00:48For us to get 3-0 up at half-time, two home games in a row here, you probably wouldn't
00:54do that too often.
00:55Do you think the connection has made coming back in your own better way?
01:01Yeah.
01:02And was that something that you identified as important?
01:08Absolutely. I said last week, I thought the connection last week with the supporters,
01:13we were at Brighton and we had a really tough second half, but we done the job, hung in
01:17there and got away with three points. I thought the connection between the players and the
01:21supporters is hugely important, it really is. And I think today, Beto at reception was
01:29great, really was. And they've been great to me, but I believe they were always good
01:34to me, John said anyway, so I'm thankful for it. But I know we've got to keep ourselves
01:41steady. If you're giving me three wins out of four at the moment, you're saying, wow,
01:45where's that come from? So, it's been great.
01:52David, you've only got one fit striker at the moment in Beto, is that something you
01:56might need to address before the close of the window?
01:59Ideally, yes. It's a question which comes back, and I'm not here to say, if I said to
02:07you, OK, name who you think would be suitable, I would probably guarantee that we've already
02:14gone through it. There's either a reason we can't get them, too expensive, not for
02:18sale, it'll be something. And it's sometimes quite an easy question to put out, and everybody
02:23would say it, and I'd say, no, everybody needs it. But there's probably three or four teams
02:27in the Premier League really chasing centre-forwards, and trying to get one has not been easy.
02:33By the way, I'm trying everything we can to add to the squad before the deadline, because
02:38it's OK winning a few games just now, you only need to lose a couple and you can find
02:42yourself struggling to get back. So we'll try.
02:50How are you doing?
02:51Very good, David, well done. I'm interested in what you said to Paul about the crowd there.
02:56Obviously, when you first came to the club, you called it the people's club, and people
03:00might think that's a bit old-fashioned now. Do you still believe that as well, or has
03:05life kind of moved on?
03:08I think in this city, there's a huge rival in the city who are very, very good. So I
03:14think we need someone to fight and have a little bit, that we can say we're going to
03:20stand up for ourselves and we're going to try and be competitive and we'll try and challenge.
03:25We don't have all the same things that they've got, so we have to find our way of doing it.
03:30If there's one thing we do need, we need the supporters, we need the players to work together
03:35to give us the best chance of success.
03:38Maybe relief's the wrong word, but when you came back, you obviously didn't quite know
03:43how things would be. Now you've been here three or four games, are you quite gratified
03:48that actually, yes, there are things that you recognise from your first spell?
03:52Yes, there is. There's a lot of people here and it's helped me coming in. But I did say,
03:58and I mean it, it's not the same Everton I left. The Everton I left were competing every
04:03year for Europe, Champions League, maybe try to be around the European competitions.
04:09We didn't do it every year, but that was more where we were than where we are now. So that
04:14just from a footballing point of view, if I had a way, that would be probably where
04:20I hope I could take Everton back to that challenging at that level. But I can't do that and I can't
04:26do this. We're sticking plaster on at the moment and you people know more about the
04:32financial situation than I do and we're just not quite over it yet. But hopefully we do,
04:37we can see if we can build on it, but football changes very quickly. I could lose the next
04:42three or four and we could be saying different things, but at the moment it feels good. We've
04:47had three great wins. I'm delighted, really positive. I think the players are improving.
04:53I think they're doing a lot of good things, especially making more chances and more opportunities.
04:58We're scoring a few goals as well, which maybe wasn't there before.
