00:00I think like community is one of the most important things in my life, and I love to create communities where I have questions
00:06Yes, whether that's about marriage and creating the black love docu-series or that's about
00:11Motherhood and really trying to surround myself around people who are like-minded but different enough
00:18Who have more kids than me or older kids than me or the same age like all of the mothers
00:23Yeah, I was like, please. Let me ask you all the questions
00:26Let me come up with all of my you know
00:28I've read this article or this is on my mind and be able to just talk about it and feel free. So I
00:34Know that that community while important to me is necessary and important for so many
00:39Because we all know that motherhood can be very isolating especially as a black mother
00:44In this majority not black world. Yeah, so or at least not black America. But anyway, so
00:49So
00:50Just saying the world anyway
00:53and so I just think that we know that it can be very isolating and
00:57Surrounding ourselves with folks that we can talk to you openly honestly and learn from has been incredible. No, absolutely
01:04I'm so grateful for the Mama's Den because I feel like
01:06This is the community that I always wanted when I had Amira my first daughter
01:10Like I was kind of by myself the only friend that had a kid
01:13it's like I love the fact that you call me and asked me to do the Mama's Den with you because I feel like I
01:18Tend to be to myself, you know
01:19I can be like a little hermit and go into my little home shell and just try to figure it out on my own
01:24One of the things that I learned from you all is that it's really important to like call your sisters up and like get advice
01:30Take a different opinion and just also share and be more be more vulnerable
01:34Like I know me and you probably struggle with that the most like I like I say a lot of things
01:37But I'm actually not the most vulnerable person like thrown along. I have yeah
01:41I feel like it but I'm just saying like it's due to you all, you know
01:44I used to want to cry in the closet. I did. Last night you cried with us. I used to want to cry in the closet. I still cry in the closet, girl. I forgot about that thing. You cry so much out loud.
01:54But I used to cry. I used to go in a closet and cry by myself and then come out like a spirit. It's very Capricorn of you.
01:59It is, you know. She likes to be by herself
02:02But I actually feel better and more healed and like more of a woman to be like I'm not okay
02:07And I need your help and I can't do it on my own and I want my daughters to learn that so I'm so glad that
02:13Yeah, I feel like for me that's the hardest part girl is the being vulnerable part I think because
02:20Just my own traumas where I really couldn't feel safe when I thought I could feel safe
02:25Yeah, or somebody tries to use something against you when you're being vulnerable
02:27And so it's put up like multiple walls, you know
02:32And I feel like it's taking me time and it still takes me time to like break him down
02:36One thing Ashley will not do is give up on
02:39Vulnerable but that is the thing
02:42I think I am most grateful for is the challenge of like breaking down those walls because I
02:47I don't know. I just tap into different parts of myself
02:51so I
02:52Literally, I feel like that besides seeing y'all all the time being vulnerable and being challenged and uncomfortable is my favorite part for sure
02:59Yeah, cuz I felt like it equals growth, even though I just don't be looking comfortable
03:03I
03:04Appreciate it, you know
03:07I
03:11Will say this because I feel so strongly with all of your sentiments
03:15But I really would say that in all the years of majority being in music
03:19I don't ever feel like I've belonged to a community the way that I feel I belong here
03:26And that's like and that says a lot because I think that in music and in entertainment everybody's really siloed
03:31There's probably more healing that can be done if we were more vulnerable with one another but we're so busy
03:36I think keeping up appearances or you know being under the microscope of scrutiny
03:41Whereas like motherhood is the most humbling experience ever
03:44Like those kids are gonna humble you real quick for the whole world to see
03:49I love you. You'd be recording something. It's coming my mama your breasts fell like that
03:59These kids really, you know, they they teach you so much
04:02Yeah, so I feel like this community has been I think community. I think I've been searching for my whole life
04:07I'm not a clicky girl. I don't have a girl cruise. I never been like that
04:10I've kind of always just done my own thing
04:12So to belong to this sisterhood and help be a part of building this community
04:17It's just I think it's a real gift in my life. So there's a real sister
