00:00The practice of having grid girls at MotoGP races is determined by the event organizer,

00:07Spain-based Dorna Sports, CIS Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

00:12Responding to a question from Permatang Pau MP Fawaz Jan, Yeoh said these women were appointed

00:18as promotional staff or brand ambassadors for various companies involved in the races

00:23to market, promote and advertise the MotoGP teams.

00:28In a written Dewan Rakyat reply, she said Sepang International Circuit's role in these

00:32races is to provide the facilities at the circuit.

00:38Yeoh said the ministry, through SIC, holds engagements with the organizer from time to

00:43time to improve the quality and content of the Grand Prix when held in Malaysia, taking

00:48into account religious and cultural sensitivities at the same time.

00:54She also reiterated that protecting the religious and cultural sensitivities of the nation's

00:59multiracial community was very important to her ministry.

01:03Fawaz, the Penang Pass Information Chief, had asked Yeoh if her ministry planned to

01:08put an end to the tradition of having grid girls dressed in sexy attire at motorsports

01:13events held by the ministry or government-linked companies.

01:18Yeoh said the MotoGP Grand Prix in Sepang last year attracted 184,923 people, including

01:26more than 18,000 foreign tourists, and a study by SIC found that the 2022 MotoGP had contributed

01:33over RM150 million to the local economy.
