The Central Australian community is in shock after a second alleged domestic violence killing in Alice Springs this year. A man has been arrested over his partner’s violent death, sparking renewed calls for the NT Government to work with the Commonwealth and act on long-standing demands from frontline workers.

00:10This victim died a violent, horrific, domestic violence related death and it never should

00:16Police say they were called to the suburb of Breitling in Alice Springs North at eight
00:20o'clock on Sunday morning and arrived to find the 41-year-old mother dead outside her home.
00:27Her 39-year-old male partner arrested over her alleged killing, which police believe
00:32was caused by a prolonged attack overnight.
00:35She suffered some fairly significant injuries to her head as a result of that assault.
00:43Police say their records show a history of violence between the couple in the lead up
00:47to the fatal attack.
00:48It follows the alleged murder of a 51-year-old woman by her male partner in the town less
00:54than a month ago.
00:55The DV sector blaming anti-government delays in funding support for what they're calling
01:01preventable deaths.
01:03Work with us rather than against us, allocate the $180 million that was seen and identified
01:10as the minimum response to domestic and family violence.
01:14The anti-government defending its plans to address the DV crisis, rates of which are
01:20around seven times higher in the territory than anywhere else in the country.
01:26This year we will spend $36 million in trying to reduce family and domestic violence.
01:32We've also already significantly increased the laws, particularly around bail and around
01:37repeat violent offenders.
01:39One central Australian women's family safety group says their communities are grieving
01:44and angry.
01:46They've joined calls from the territory's peak Aboriginal medical body for the anti-government
01:50to listen to community-led solutions and take urgent action.
01:55Anti-police say the 39-year-old man is in custody and charges will be laid within the
02:00next day.
