00:00Welcome to Medea TV, directed by Essaouira, who hosted a meeting on the influence of African Judaism and its role in promoting intercultural dialogue.
00:19This meeting, co-organized by the Center for Study and Research on Hebraic Law in Morocco, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Morocco, the House of Morocco for Peace and the Essaouira Mogador Association,
00:31was an opportunity to highlight the key role of the Kingdom as a crossroads of civilizations and models of harmonious coexistence,
00:39where Jewish and Muslim traditions have intertwined over the centuries, thus contributing to a common heritage of exceptional richness.
00:49I invite you to listen to Abdullah Ozitan, the founding president of the Center for Study and Research on Hebraic Law in Morocco.
00:59We have put the African identity of Morocco at the heart of our approach, at the heart of our concerns.
01:09It was also a question of further evoking the efforts made by the sovereign for peace, not only in the Proshorium, but also in the world.
01:24And of course, we need this awareness of unity. It is, in a way, an appeal of the Essaouira.
01:32Today, through this international conference, an appeal for serenity, an appeal for wisdom and also an appeal for responsibility,
01:39so that each and every one, and so that each sensitivity and each culture can, of course, also find their legitimate place.
01:47We have chosen this theme on Africa because, as you know, Africa embodies, with legitimacy, the traces of history woven for several centuries.
02:01And the cradle of humanity is also the Africa of hope, the Africa of hope for tomorrow.
02:08With the participation of professors, university professors, researchers, Moroccan historians and intellectuals, and foreigners, of course,
02:16this meeting was held in the presence of Mr. André Azoulay, founding president of the Essaouira-Mogador Association.
02:22He focused on the deep links between Essaouira and sub-Saharan Africa,
02:27recalling in particular the Jewish presence in Cape Verde since the 17th century,
02:33as well as the significant contribution of the city of the Alysées to the commercial and cultural exchanges of the time.
02:40The advisor to His Majesty, King Mohammed VI, also highlighted the central role of the Essaouira as a real platform for intercultural and inter-religious dialogue
02:50through several emblematic initiatives, including the Gnawa Festival and Music of the World, or the Jazz Festival in La Gagnée,
02:57which have contributed to strengthening cultural links between Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa.
03:02I invite you to listen to Stephen Hoffner. He is the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Morocco.
03:10It is a great honor for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation to collaborate with our Moroccan partners
03:17to organize this conference on the theme of the heritage of African Judaism.
03:24It is an event that illustrates the common commitment of Morocco and Germany
03:29in favor of intercultural dialogue and respect for diversity.
03:33Morocco occupies a unique place in history as a model of coexistence and preservation of African Jewish heritage.
03:41From the Sahara and the Atlas to the big cities, Jewish culture shaped the identity of the country.
03:47And today it is still a bridge between peoples.
03:51Through this conference, we want to deepen our reflections on the contribution of African Judaism
03:57and, in particular, on the Moroccan experience as an example of tolerance.
04:02And finally, music.
