00:00And, of course, DRS, the last few years for New York have not been kind.
00:04The last two years highlighted by the disaster that was the Aaron Rodgers era, if you want
00:09to call it that.
00:10A 5-in-12 campaign for the Jets a season ago, with a preseason win total of 9.5, expecting
00:17double-digit wins in a playoff berth.
00:19But instead, the Jets continue to do what they do, missing out on the postseason for
00:23a 14th straight year.
00:26120-1 is the price on New York to win Super Bowl 60 this year.
00:32They have the 7th overall pick this upcoming April, 8 total picks and only $21 million
00:38in terms of cap space.
00:40Of course, a new head coach in Aaron Glenn, a new GM in Darren Moogey, and a decision
00:46made by the new Jets brass that Aaron Rodgers is not going to return at the quarterback
00:51spot.
00:52So, DRS, the big picture questions, now that Aaron Rodgers is gone, what should the Jets
00:58do to answer that quarterback question?
01:01That's the million-dollar question at this point here.
01:04Is it a bridge quarterback?
01:05Because the one thing I understand with the Jets, which I told you before that I love
01:08this, you know, I think Aaron Glenn was a solid hire, but I just wanted to see when
01:11he got in the building, how some of those answers might change.
01:14Because if you remember the press conference when they introduced him, would he somehow
01:17got in front of the reporters like, hey, heck yeah, if he comes back and they want Aaron
01:22Rodgers back, I would welcome him.
01:23I'd say, but come on now, just stay out of this.
01:24But it shows that he's not looking for self-preservation with the Jets.
01:29He's saying, I want to build this my way.
01:31And if it fails, it fails at that point, because it's very easy for a new coach to come in
01:35and say, all right, I think I can make something out of Aaron Rodgers.
01:38If it works, I'm a genius.
01:39If it doesn't, the organization goes, hey, what did you want to do?
01:41Glad you tried.
01:42You got another two to three more years with your own quarterback.
01:44I like that that foundation has been set right away, because if you see that graphic, the
01:492024 record for the Jets, 5-12, and Ben, this wasn't like, well, Aaron Rodgers went
01:54down again three plays into the season.
01:56We didn't have Brees Hall, Garrett Wilson, our best wide receiver, hamstring injury out
02:00for eight weeks.
02:01We traded for Devontae Adams, he got injured immediately.
02:04The defense went down repeatedly, so I scored him his 17 games, all 17 games.
02:09That didn't happen.
02:10This team was so talented, and to finish with five wins, maybe the worst expectation of
02:15a result that you got last year was the Jets in the past 15 to 20 years in the NFL.
02:20So let's just say the talent stays somewhat the same outside of Aaron Rodgers.
02:23I expect them to win more than five games next year.
02:26I expect them to possibly challenge for a division, because also, when he said, well,
02:30Don, you're crazy, if you do get a veteran quarterback in there that just is able to
02:34provide substance and not, you know, submarine your coaching staff by going over the heads
02:40of the coaches and the general managers to the owner, they're going to be better coached,
02:44and they're going to be willing to play harder, obviously, under this new regime.
02:47So for me, six wins is a must for the Jets next year, and they might make a playoff run
02:52if, Ben, they do get a quality quarterback.
02:55I don't need a superstar, I just need competent quarterback player to the Jets, and they should
03:00no doubt about it, seven plus wins next year, which would put you in playoff position by
03:05the time you hit December.
