00:00Yeah, one of the great sports days in America, pitchers and catchers report
00:06today, all Jupiter welcomes in the fish.
00:10I mean, let's be clear.
00:12What?
00:13Okay.
00:15It's a great day for some, but the Miami Marlins are like a hurricane.
00:23Every time their season starts, we all are in the cone of uncertainty, right?
00:32Oh, there's a certainty.
00:35Like we go get a direct hit.
00:37No, there's a certainty.
00:38They're going to suck.
00:39No, there, there is a certainty about that.
00:41They're going to be, they are going to be young.
00:42And the only other certainty is as soon as Sandman throws a hundred miles an hour,
00:48Peter Bendix is going to be on a line.
00:49Like, did you think of that?
00:51For me, my problem is Mr.
00:54Sherman, Mr.
00:55Sherman, we can make a deal.
00:56Man.
00:57Here's my problem with the Marlins.
01:00And tell me if I'm, if you agree with me, it doesn't matter who's in control.
01:07Every time in the previous 15 years that we've traded a star,
01:12yep, we've gotten garbage in return.
01:15Uh, the only time you did it honestly, or I don't want to say the
01:19only time you didn't, cause you know, they gave up Zach gallon.
01:22They got jazz Chisholm jazz was good.
01:24Um, and then he got too good.
01:26And then, then he got too good.
01:28And now, uh, Augustine Ramirez, so, you know, maybe he'll turn
01:31out to be a thing, dude.
01:32I don't know.
01:33I was like reading it.
01:34I was like pictures and catches report today.
01:36And I thought to myself, can I name a Marlins catcher?
01:40Are we, are we going out there?
01:43I don't think so.
01:44Okay.
01:45I don't think so.
01:46I haven't been asked.
01:47Uh, I'm, I'm a big fan of check.
01:50Like, first of all, the one thing that you got, do you want to go out there?
01:55Like, I think that's the question is, do you want to go out there?
01:58Who do you want to talk to?
01:59Other than Sandman?
02:00I don't know.
02:01Yeah, that's true.
02:02But here, here's the deal.
02:05I don't think people understand.
02:08There are more players at baseball in a baseball training camp, right?
02:15Then they're on a football team.
02:17It's crazy.
02:18Like it's, it, it looks like a Walmart out there.
02:21Cause there's a lot of them all day.
02:24And a lot of, well, it's funny because a lot of these, uh, you know, it's
02:27one of these things that baseball has really tried to almost shave down.
02:32Cause they feel like it's a, it's an unnecessary, it's, it's not a
02:35necessity because you have so few players who are actually going to be
02:38good that they've, there was like a huge thought of like, ah, is the
02:42minor league is going to get tented up?
02:44Like, are they going to even get Rick?
02:45It's like, you know, you got these small towns all over the place.
02:49It is fun going to minor league baseball.
02:50Like if you just want like a cheap family night out, that's, that's an
02:56entertaining time, but no, you're, you're not kidding.
02:57There's a time.
02:59They're all wearing Marlins jerseys.
03:00And then quite frankly, you can't tell who's who no right now, I guess.
03:04Well, it goes by the jersey you're wearing.
03:09Margo's.
03:09Are you still trying to figure out a Marlins catcher?
03:12Yeah.
03:14For the past, I really can't find them, but I think you have to be right in that
03:19sense in regards to like, you can't have these minor league games because you're
03:23seriously banking off of this farm system because it's like one in a million.
03:28It has to be for those small town teams or small towns that don't have major
03:32sports that are just like, Oh, you know, the good old sport of baseball.
03:36And I mean, you've mentioned it's a, it's a good time to take your kids.
03:39It was a good time.
03:40It is the only reason those things exist because like who even does the farm system?
03:46Well, that's why like the, uh, the St.
03:47Lucy Mets wanted Tebow back in the, back in the day, you know, get
03:51to get people out to the bar.
03:52But like, no, there's like some small minor league owner.
03:54Like a bubble Watson owns one of the Marlins teams.
03:56He owns the, uh, the Pensacola Wahoos.
04:00Augustan Ramirez.
04:02Yep.
04:03The Marlins catcher.
04:04That's like the best guys they supposedly got out of the jazz Chisholm deal.
04:09He gets, he, he hits dingers, but unfortunately, as I've read up for him
04:15for five minutes before today's show, because I was like, who is a Marlins
04:17catcher other than Forte?
04:19I know Fortez, but everybody wants to get rid of them because he stinks.
04:23But, uh, I was like, Oh, all right.
04:25Uh, Augustan Ramirez, what's, what's up with him?
04:28And they're like, no, the thing about him is he's a catcher who can't catch
04:34because he had a lot of past balls last year.
04:36So in other words, he'll be a first baseman in a year.
04:40That's what everybody thinks.
04:41First baseman DH first baseman, but obviously if you, if you're a catcher,
04:45I mean like, man, that's a, that's a, that's a, if you're a catcher who can
04:48hit, that's a hell of a luxury to have, but it does seem like he is not a
04:54catcher who can hit, he's a hitter that can't catch did substance.
04:58Are you saying his first name?
04:59I think it's Augustan Ramirez, A G U S T I N.
05:03I think that, I don't know.
05:04What do you want me to put some flair on it?
05:07Once you hit a home run before you, it's August, it's not August.
05:12It's a, it's a G U S T I N.
05:17Augustine, I think is how it would be.
05:18Right.
05:20Hey, look, I'm not going to learn his name until he does something, dude.
05:22We're looking at you, me, Augustine, but again, I'm not going to learn
05:29his name until he does something.
05:31No, or this is the equivalent asking Marcos about Spanish is the
05:39equivalent to me asking you about hockey.
05:42Can we call him the goose man?
05:45Like we're assuming Marcos knows Spanish and he does.
05:49This, this is very offensive.
05:50What if we ask you about French sometimes Creole or something like that?
05:53You know, you go a little bit.
05:54Yeah, a little bit, but I'm not Creole.
05:58Well,
06:01I'm not French.
06:04You are Latino.
06:06Well, if we have any Latino questions about words or whatever, you're on a,
06:13you're on a comedy page named cafecito comedy, which is funny.
06:21If you know, Marcos, you can't speak no Spanish.
06:25It's amazing.
06:26You are incredible.
06:27Yeah.
06:28Okay.
06:29That's fine.
06:30If it's anything other than
06:33and then we'd ask Jfig, but she ain't gonna come to 1230s and we'll
06:37be good about it by then.
06:38If Jfig confirms that it's anything other than Augustine, then, then I'll accept it.
06:43But as of right now, I'm sticking with, I'm doubling down on my answer.
06:47All right.
06:47Well, and maybe just for sure, I'll just call him goose Ramirez.
06:51Yeah.
06:51I'll just call him goose Ramirez.
06:52I'll just call him goose Ramirez.
06:53I'll just call him goose Ramirez.
06:54I'll just call him goose Ramirez.
06:55The goose, man.
06:57Uh, but anyway, I used to think of though, like this really was a holy day to me
07:01back in the day, like as a sports fan, I was so excited for pictures and gadgets.
07:05I was like, Oh, it's here.
07:07How old were you when the Marlins were?
07:10When they were six.
07:12Okay.
07:12So six, seven, understand this.
07:16I had never been anywhere near baseball.
07:20I had never been anywhere near baseball.
07:24And in fact, the only baseball that we had in new Orleans was they used to do a
07:32series in spring ball where four teams will come to the superdome and play in
07:38a superdome on a weekend, and that's the only baseball I got.
07:44Well, I was a kid.
07:45There was a lot of teams down here.
07:47Uh, there were like more, when I was real little, there was a lot of teams,
07:50like in Pabono and things like that.
07:52Right.
07:52But, uh, when I really started getting into watching the Marlins, it was, uh,
07:56the only team that was down here before they changed ownership and moved to
08:00Jupiter, they were all the way up in Melbourne.
08:02And so the only time I really got to see him is when they played the Orioles.
08:05Cause the Orioles did spring training in Fort Lauderdale.
08:08Right, right.
08:09Where the pinks play now.
08:11So, yeah.
08:12So I never had any baseball until I got to college and then we had, you know, the
08:18Tigers and then the Indians were basically what the Marlins are now until like mid
08:27nineties and then it got started getting good.
08:30Um, so that was my first like, Hey, let's go see a baseball game type of environment.
08:36And I had, like I said, me and Kenny Lofton switched season tickets.
08:40So I had season tickets to the Indian.
08:42So I went, I went, man, I used to love that old 12, one o'clock game.
08:49I could just go sit in my seat with all the other 200 people there during the
08:55week and just watch baseball and I just go down to the locker room.
08:59So yeah, that was fine.
09:02You know, like, uh, you know, Bendix is going to be sitting behind that bump
09:05today, watching the sand man on that radar gun, just drooling.
09:08Cause he can't wait to train him for six prospects.
09:10How long before he's, you know, up to speed Sandy?
09:15Yeah.
09:15Did they say Sandy's going to, I think, start opening that.
09:18Yeah.
09:18He's, he said, he's fully back.
09:19URI is not getting back to the all-star break.
09:22Jeez.
09:23I don't know why they wait.
09:25Just out of curiosity.
09:27Why do they wait?
09:27What?
09:27Once they get that elbow strain, I think you have to wait for it.
09:30I do think you have to wait for it.
09:31It's like kind of a knee thing.
09:32I think you have to wait like a certain amount of weeks till it goes down.
09:37If it, no, no, no.
09:38What I'm saying is, is that every time we've seen an elbow
09:44soreness type of thing, they rehab it and then they come back and then
09:51they struggle and then six or seven months later, so-and-so's having
09:56Tommy John surgery, I'm like, once they start that process of sore elbow,
10:01I'm pretty sure it seemed like the last year Sandy pitched, he probably pitched
10:06the entire year just through toughness and probably could have gotten it like
10:09in the beginning of the year, because remember like that, remember like he
10:14had the Cy Young year and it was an unprecedented level of innings pitched.
10:19He was like, he was like some kind of throwback from the seventies where
10:23he's like the only guy going the distance in the league and then, you
10:27know, which was awesome to see.
10:28I'm not, you know, I was like, that was, that was unbelievably like
10:33elite ball to watch this guy pitch.
10:35Must watch, must watch every five days.
10:39And, uh, but then like the next year you can just like, he just didn't have it.
10:43And it kind of felt like he didn't have it like the whole season.
10:46And I'm like wondering, did he just like grit through a season?
10:49He probably should have just had Tommy John.
10:51Right.
10:52But that's what, that's what I'm saying is that, is that are we to the
10:56point now where once a guy talks about a sore elbow, you know, what's coming.
11:03I don't care how long you sit them.
11:05I don't care how much time they take off, how many starts they skip.
11:09Right.
11:10The inevitable is coming.
11:13Oh, Mr.
11:13Sherman.
11:13He threw one on four today.
11:25He's gonna end up a Yankee or a Dodger.
11:29Bendix here.
11:30Dodgers.
11:31He's throwing one on three prospects.
11:36But do you want prospects from the Dodgers?
11:42Uh, somehow the Dodgers also have the best farm system.
11:44That's just how crazy they just buy everybody.
11:47And they got the best farm system.
11:49Yeah.
11:49I was like, wait, I look, it was because I was looking at the Marlins farm system.
11:53I'm like, all right, where are we ranking?
11:54I'm like, how are the Dodgers?
11:55Number one, this sucks.
11:57And we trading for prospects all the time.
11:59Well, because they just spend money.
12:01They don't have to ever give up prospects to get a player.
12:03They just print money, dude.
12:05It's ridiculous.
12:08Peter, my boy.
12:08What do you got?
12:09Mr.
12:09Sherman.
12:11He just went nine innings.
12:15Hurry up before that thing blows again.
12:18Get him out of there.
12:19Get him out of there.
12:19Let's, uh, you know, go voice the Yankees again.
12:24No, no, you called the Dodgers first.
12:29You called the Dodgers first and then the Yankees.
12:34Dodgers.
12:35You want those two competing or you maybe give Boston a call.
12:39Who else?
12:39San Diego.
12:40Are they out of it now?
12:42Cause they were spending a lot of money.
12:44No San Diego.
12:45Who else?
12:46Um, San Francisco is not cheap.
12:50Uh, you know, who could probably, who would probably throw some, madam.
12:54Houston.
12:55Mets.
12:56The Mets.
12:57Oh, the Mets money.
13:00So yeah, you know, you know who to call.
13:04But sometimes they call you cause they got feelers out.
13:08That's what he's wanting.
13:08I know.
13:09Trust me.
13:09They're probably like, once he goes up against skeins and, uh, and he, if he, if
13:13he had dual skeins on opening day, Benny's going to be like, didn't scheme
13:20when, uh, um, last year, right?
13:22Yeah.
13:22He was good.
13:23He was, oh my goodness.
13:24He's a horse.
13:26Anyway, they look like the same guy, right?
13:30Big boys, big.
