What is going on?! The Miami Marlins traded Jake Burger to the Texas Rangers for 3 prospects... for no apparent reason. The Marlins also ended up with the 7th overall pick in the draft lottery even with having the best odds to get the number 1 pick. Leroy reminds us how insignificant the draft is in Baseball, specifically for the Marlins.

00:00I think Tommy's quibbling today. You know, they just send Jake Berger away. You just take Jake Berger away from us
00:08Now you change the cheap guys
00:12That's kind of how this has been going for the last 25 years so
00:18Why would you expect it's weird every time you have anything of value they trade
00:25What I mean, what is that
00:27Jake burgers are just like nah, like Jake. What does he make three million dollars?
00:33Yeah, he's under K too rich for our blood send his ass to Texas
00:36How much do the fans like a lot get out of here? Yeah, they literally gonna have a payroll of 12 million
00:44Oh
00:45Who's like, what is the guy who is the guy just Sandy and whatever they owe left on Stan. Is that it?
00:50Is that all they have to pay?
00:53Yeah, whenever they know if if Sandy's here, you know, we know how this is look soon as he throws one pitch over a hundred
01:04You know, you know Bendix is licking his chops to trade Sandy for like five prospects
01:10We doing though like that's not how you guys but but you're not here in a spa
01:15Margo's see me and Tobin knew what was coming. Here's why
01:20Here's why
01:22Let me let me tell you why
01:26When you hire somebody from Tampa
01:31You know, we're doing dollar store stuff whoo
01:37But not even like we did you know what this is
01:40the team who Marlins
01:42Yeah
01:44Marcus you've saw about this team. Oh, is that what is team? It was teaming like cheap eBay. It's like a wish even your shop
01:51Let me tell you it is
01:54You can get a dress shirt for $3 now
01:59And now here's the kicker. That's expensive
02:02Here's the kicker
02:04You gonna struggle getting the right size?
02:09Because
02:11American-large is like 4x team
02:15man, and
02:17It's not worth returning
02:20hmm, so
02:23You go swing or miss a few times
02:28Because I don't know what it is about anything on there though, by the way
02:32Like I just was like, ah, what would he like and I put in a harpoon you can get a harpoon, right?
02:36I
02:38Mean your little hard desires
02:40We're determined also. We want to win really soon. We want to win for a long time
02:45We want to build something that is successful every single year year in and year out
02:49I think Clayton can be the right leader for that
02:52Cleans like oh you just traded my number one home run hitter. Great. Well, he's a liar
02:58I really know this guy's home runs are overrated
03:01I
03:05Listen this is like
03:08That's what you're gonna hear
03:11Right, you're gonna see a bunch of guys that don't strike out. You're gonna see a bunch of guys that make contact
03:18I don't think that's what they are gonna do because the I think the guys that they're gonna play are
03:25Probably gonna be probably gonna be Norby and and they have this this this young prospect Davidson de los Santos
03:31I think who had like 40 home runs in the minors last year. They're young guys. They're gonna strike. Come on
03:36They're young. Of course, they're gonna strike out a ton, right?
03:40But like, you know, I don't know. I just think
03:45When new people come into a situation
03:50They sometimes
03:53Don't understand the scars of the previous regimes and they come in here like he's coming in
04:00you know with that swagger of he knows what he's doing or whatever, but to us it looks like
04:09You're basically trying to do it for cheap
04:12Which is what the Marlins have done for the last 25 years. I'm just like look maybe these guys
04:18Turn out to be good. It's feel like you know, but
04:22Do you have any doubt if they get really really really good? They're gonna get traded. Oh eventually. Yeah, right
04:29This guy had like the thing with burger was funny. It's like he had like four years before he was a free agent
04:34Right didn't even make a mill
04:37I'm like what is going on here?
04:40This is who we're getting rid of and they got like nobody in the top 15 in this in a system. That's not very good
04:47Right, let's read it for teenagers
04:51Doing what are we doing? You think he maybe he requested a trade?
05:00Reason that I can justify like why you would do this. First of all, first of all, look, this is no knock on burger
05:10You you make three million a year now you ain't demanding no damn tree
05:16Doesn't make three million a year. Well, but that's what my point
05:20Like do you think you do you think?
05:24You know if you're not making premium dollar
05:27You can go into the organization and say
05:31Hey, I think you know, it would be in our best interest if you just trade
05:34Do you want to know the other thing that happened to the Marlins yesterday is I had no idea this was going on yesterday
05:38Do you know yesterday was the MLB draft lottery?
05:42Oh great, they do a lottery like basketball. Yeah. Yeah
05:45I don't know like the the odds of it and all one up
05:49But what I did read was the Marlins had the number one odds to get the number one pick
05:53And they got it and they couldn't finish lower than eight
05:57And they finished eight they finished seventh
06:01Love that absolutely love that I
06:05Think I hate
06:07I'm gonna say this and you guys are gonna probably agree with me
06:18The way baseball works
06:22The baseball draft is the most insignificant draft in all of sports
06:29Because I don't agree with that because here's the deal
06:33You
06:35Can have how often does a top prospect get into the majors quickly and
06:44in the Marlins case
06:48They're not here
06:50Because they've been in the minors and some teams
06:54Think it's more important to hold on to a players rights
06:57Then get the player on
07:00The field I see what you're saying
07:02But also like it's still the top talent are gonna be usually the people they scout up the top
07:07They have to pay usually these guys these guys can kind of you you get a certain amount of money to pay on guys
07:12on a pie and
07:15You know, like some guys will demand more as a signing bonus or they'll go to they'll go to college, you know
07:20They'll they'll kind of they'll walk on you having their rights. So
07:25it's not insignificant and honestly Leroy part of the reason that they have
07:29They've stumbled as much as they have even more so than the the spending of money
07:34They haven't signed that, you know, they haven't drafted anybody of significance, especially an everyday player
07:39I can't remember since when where the hell's JJ blue day. He's an a dude. We do this every time
07:45He's he's I guess is he in Vegas now, where are the A's? Oh
07:51Okay again
07:53Remember that the conversation when he got drafted. Yeah
07:56He had a good month last year, but but that's for the a that but that but that's that's my point is that
08:04first of all before you get into your baseball prime, you're damn near 30 and
08:11This team
08:13Has never shown that they're gonna hold on to anybody
08:18In their system that they drafted until they're 25 30 years old that being said
08:26What's the point for the Marlins to even be in the draft when you can't tell me?
08:32What was the last draft pick that the Marlins had?
08:36that ended up playing a
08:39substantial amount of time for the Marlins
08:44Well, Max Myers been Max Myers been hurt a lot so
08:49Everything is through trades. Yeah, so that like we see other teams
08:55Their star players are coming up and playing right away. Yep. The Marlins are always in the top 10
09:01they haven't had a
09:04signed player a
09:06Drafted player come through their system and play on their major league team
09:11Been a while. The stars have come from somewhere else. You're right about that
09:17so it
09:18so
09:19Who cares if they have their seventh pick you're right below it. I mean they do have that solutions guy plunket
09:26Maybe he'll figure it out
09:28but if
09:30They could draft babe Ruth as the seventh got the seventh pick in the draft
09:36By the time he gets to the major leagues, they will trade him and flip him for other
09:41picks or other
09:43Um
09:46Prospects am I wrong for thinking that no, you know, okay
09:51How can I argue
09:53That's why I say it's been since yella since they've had somebody of all the of all the drafts and all the major
10:01sports
10:02to me in this town
10:05The baseball draft is the most
10:07Insignificant draft in sports from what I have seen down here in Florida
