00:00All right, DRS, that last football headline, Matt Patricia, hired by Ohio State as the Buckeyes'
00:07new defensive coordinator. Of course, Matt Patricia, probably most well-known, not for
00:12being a two-time Super Bowl champion D.C. and six years in New England under Bill Belichick,
00:18but three years as the Lions' head coach, where he went 13-29 and was fired after 11 games
00:24in the 2020 NFL season. And then, as a defensive assistant two years ago for Philadelphia,
00:31who just had one of the best statistical defensive years and performances we have
00:35ever seen in a Super Bowl, was led by Patricia down the homestretch a year ago when the wheels
00:42fell off. How do you feel about this hire in the name and familiar face that is Patricia
00:48now heading to the college ranks in Columbus? You would figure, like with Ohio State,
00:53you probably got your pick of anybody that you want who is available, right? It's an interesting
00:57hire because so much part of the college game is usually you want the young, hot defensive
01:03coordinator that connects with the players and is an absolute master on the recruiting trail.
01:09That's not really what Matt Patricia is. Like, if anything that we know about the Patriot way is,
01:13the guy probably doesn't even like to talk to his players or pay attention to any of his players,
01:16let alone fly to another city and try to recruit a linebacker to come to the institution. I am
01:21surprised because they have one of the best, if not the best, defensive coordinators last year.
01:25And it's almost like one of those spots where you can attract anybody who's halfway decent.
01:29They coach for one or two years and they're probably off to a head coaching position in
01:32college somewhere else. Now, they took an interesting route last year by going and say,
01:36you know what? We need an instant offense here. Let's get Chip Kelly. How did it work out?
01:40National Championship. Where's Chip Kelly? Back into the NFL. These are supposed to be
01:44unbelievably attractive positions. And it's almost like feels like they're settling on
01:48Matt Patricia. And I guess there's a pedigree because he was the Patriots defensive coordinator
01:53and he's been in multiple Super Bowls. But for me, I don't think that strikes all that
01:56much with college kids. Like, hey, I'm going to play for Matt Patricia. Yeah. Who's that guy?
