00:00Bill Belichick yesterday introduced as the new head football coach of North Carolina
00:09and Bill had plenty to say. Joe, we'll react to everything that Bill Belichick had to say
00:14yesterday but before we react, let's hear from the man himself as he was introduced
00:20as UNC's new head coach yesterday. Yeah, I mean it was, you know, we went through a process
00:26but it was great. Every step of the way was great. The support was tremendous. You know,
00:30all the things that I feel are important to having a successful program, Bubba and Chancellor
00:36Roberts reaffirmed and I think they've made a great commitment to this program. Obviously
00:41it's a great university and I'd say along the way as kind of things got out, if you
00:47will, the amount of support that I got from Carolina grads, former Carolina football players,
00:55you know, people that are connected with this university was really overwhelming and
01:00not that I'm any social media expert because I'm not but there was an awful lot of, you
01:04know, positive feedback from my face and stuff like that and it was great. Okay, great stuff
01:13Bill, we appreciate it. You know what's been really funny just watching that press conference
01:17yesterday about Bill Belichick who has become a media darling this year, if you will, seeming
01:23so much more engaging. He was at the roast of Tom Brady. As soon as he is a head coach
01:28once again at a podium for a press conference, very little emotion on Belichick's face. Joe,
01:36last week on a football Friday, you and I were here when the first report came out that
01:41Bill Belichick had interviewed for the North Carolina head coaching vacancy. It felt like
01:47a leveraged play at the time to garner some more interest around the NFL and then what
01:52seemed like an onion headline became a reality in about a six day span. What was your reaction
01:59when this became official on Wednesday evening? Well, it was twofold, Ben. It was I thought
02:08that and sometimes listen, when you when you spend your entire life and the last and he's
02:13really been a football guy his entire life. But you know, sometimes when you go 3040 years
02:19been that all of a sudden guys walk away for a year or are out of that loop for a year.
02:26It kind of does give them some different perspective, especially when you're 72 years old at this
02:31point. And the history of football in his blood and in his family. Maybe just maybe
02:38Belichick wants, you know, wants to start where it all began at the college level with
02:43his dad who I think coached at Chapel Hill in the mid 50s. So this is, you know, a time
02:50away like that. Sometimes you reevaluate what's important to you in your life. You get to
02:55that grind and that daily grind and you saw how miserable he was at the end there in New
03:01England. Sometimes, you know, a year away from the game really does give you some clarity
03:06and I don't think if he was willing to give it 100% I don't think you'd be doing this
03:11if the NFL and I don't think the NFL is still out of the question, Ben, but he's got he's
03:17back in the game, so to speak. And that's really all that matters to Belichick right now, apparently.
