00:00Tom Holland's Spider-Man has dealt with quite a few nasty villains, but the threat he fears
00:04most of all comes from within… literally.
00:08Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland shared that he has a genuine fear of throwing
00:12up in his Spider-Man costume, saying,
00:14"...if you were to throw up in the suit, you would effectively drown."
00:18Such a skin-tight mask wouldn't leave any room for the vomit to go, making it impossible
00:22to breathe for anyone unfortunate enough to lose their lunch while wearing it.
00:26He recalled one particularly awful experience on the set of Spider-Man Homecoming, in which
00:30he had water fall onto his face while he still had the mask on.
00:34Holland explained,
00:35"...the more and more water that dropped onto my head, the more and more water that pulled
00:39up in front of the mask, so I was kind of waterboarding myself."
00:43Any fluid from any place can be a problem in a Spider-Man suit, meaning that there's
00:47plenty of potential for bathroom mishaps during lengthy shoots.
00:51The mask can be ripped off in an emergency, but that's not true about everything from
00:55the neck down.
00:56While Spidey's costumes are designed to shoot webs, they're not designed with ease of access
01:00in mind whenever nature calls.
01:02Getting in and out of the red outfit can be a hassle, and on a film set, time is money.
01:07That goes double for a Marvel Studios production, which is why Tom Holland had to go out of
01:10his way to ask for more bathroom breaks on the Spider-Man Homecoming set.
01:14Well, technically a family member did it for him.
01:19"...I gotta go."
01:20"...Hey, where you going?"
01:24"...What are you hiding?"
01:26During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Holland revealed that he endured 11-hour
01:30work days in the Spidey suit during production on his first solo movie.
01:34He elaborated,
01:35"...I was young, so I wanted to impress the studio.
01:39I didn't want them to think that I needed breaks."
01:42Swinging from webs and crawling on walls takes a lot of energy.
01:45Holland had to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, which only made his need for a bathroom
01:49break stronger.
01:50When he mentioned to his mother over the phone that relief wasn't an opportunity that came
01:54frequently, she felt the need to take action on her son's behalf.
01:58He continued,
01:59"...The producer came up to me and was like, how are your kidneys?
02:02I was like, my kidneys are fine, why are you asking?
02:05He's like, well, your mom called us."
02:07"...So my mom called up the biggest studio in the world and was like, give my son toilet
02:13breaks!"
02:15As one might imagine, a lot can go wrong in a Spider-Man suit regarding the release of
02:18bodily fluids.
02:19Thankfully, Holland has managed to avoid disaster on all fronts so far.
02:23But with Spider-Man 4 scheduled for release in 2026, there's always a chance that something
02:28could go horribly wrong.
