Walsall 3 Chesterfield 1 - George Bennett analysis
Transcript
00:00Good evening Sadler's fans and Pitchside at Bescott where Walsall have returned to winning ways after a 5 match winless run in League 2.
00:11So extended that lead at the top to 8 points and yeah Matt Sadler made 3 changes from the midweek draw against Gillingham.
00:21With Taylor Allen returning from suspension to play at left centre back replacing Evan Weir.
00:27Charlie Lakin was restored to midfield with Osher McKenzie dropping to the bench.
00:31Ellis Harrison was given the nod in attack to partner Jameel Mack following the hamstring injury to Josh Gordon on Tuesday night.
00:40Walsall were poor in the first half, really struggled in terms of lacking ideas in attack.
00:47Not a great deal of intensity off the ball and switched off again from another set piece as Jamie Grimes was left unmarked to head Duffy's cross into the far corner.
01:01It could have got worse, Harry Williams with two vital last ditch blocks.
01:06It felt dismal at the break and then Walsall flew out of the traps in the second half.
01:15Harry Williams had to go off injured 4 minutes after the restart but Jameel Mack pulled Walsall level 6 minutes after the break with a lovely instinctive hooked finish beyond the Chesterfield goalkeeper.
01:30And that came from a Taylor Allen set piece which was knocked down by David Akagbewe and it was Allen again with a superb corner delivery to the back post.
01:39Ellis Harrison climbed above his marker to head home his first goal for the club.
01:44Liam Gordon was then played through on goal as Bescott really got on its feet and roared Walsall forward but he was stopped in his tracks by a last ditch challenge.
01:55Matt Sadler switched things up for the final 20 minutes with Brandon Conley coming in alongside Ryan Stirk as part of a double pivot.
02:03Levi Amanchi and Albert Adoma picked up the baton in attack and 10 minutes of stoppage time was added on from the referee who had actually replaced the initial referee because he pulled his hamstring.
02:22And that caused quite a stoppage at the end of the first half but Levi Amanchi marked his appearance from the bench as Evan Ware broke down the left-hand side, squared for him to finish at the back post and put the seal on the win.
